  • I picked up a downpipe from ‪@CTSTurbo‬ , threw on some heat wrap from ‪@DesignEngineering‬ , and topped it off with a turbo blanket from ‪@forgemotorsport‬ . A little more noise and a lot better turbo response. The whole job went a lot quicker with tools from ‪@harborfreight‬

    9:27 I put a turbo blanket on my N14 engine too. I was told the blanket should not cover the oil lines that go into the turbo. That the blanket needs to be tucked back away from them not over them. Hope this helps :)

    I've got a Peugeot 208 GTI, absolute nightmare trying to take those bottom bolts off for the turbo blanket, stood there for hours, back killer...

    I have a boost gauge installed and the boost pressure without the catalytic, in my case, was going over 20 psi. It's not safe for the not prepared engine, so I preferred lost the $106 and reinstall the catalytic back, than damage the engine. Just in case!

      The cat has nothing to do with the boost pressure. Boost pressure is controlled by the wastegate, and the diverter valve. All the catalyst does is control the contents that comes out of the tailpipe.

      With boost pressure it is not just the wastegate and diverter valve. The CAT does a lot of back pressure and if you remove it. You bet you must re-map the turbo because if you don't on the long run you will see a lot of bills coming your way because the turbine will over spool if there is no back pressure.
      On the other hand if you do a re-map and optimise the turbo to run without the CAT, I am happily runing my car with a CAT delete fore the 7th year.

    Hi,
    Cool vid! Can you give me the parameres of the scrwes that you used for the blanket?
    And how many meters of bandage needed for the DP?
    Thanks!

      Thank you, I took the stock bolts to the hardware store and matched them with their thread gauge. I bought 25 feet of heat wrap and didn’t use all of it.

    Hey Reckless. You ever end up getting a cel for this or did the spacer actually work?

    I'm looking to add just the blanket. Is that going to give me ongoing error codes? I have BimmerLink/Code to cancel it out but don't want to disable anything or have to keep clearing codes every time I take the car out. Do I need the O2 spacer if I'm not replacing the down pipe? Can I fit the factory heat shield over the blanket? Thanks for your patience, I'm new to this!

    • @recklesslyfestyle
      @recklesslyfestyle  Před 2 měsíci +1

      The blanket takes place of the factory shield. It works far better. I don’t believe the factory heat shield will fit over it, but you won’t need it anymore. It won’t throw any codes with the blanket. No spacer is needed for the O2 sensor with the factory down pipe.

      For the turbo blanket? You can use the existing bolts but they ugly. I picked up some stainless bolts and they look great.

      Yes. They’re universal, they’re too long when you buy them. You have to adjust the length yourself. The customer is dumb for making it the wrong length, or for doing nothing and leaving it too long.
