    Most fast food worker do not get 40 hours a week. They usually get 30 hours a week so the business can avoid full time benefits.

      Grocery stores do the same. They will schedule tiu 32 hours and work you 40 with no benefits. That's what Kroger did to me

      The aristocracy always resents any improvement for the peasantry, because they know their economic power over them to be a zero-sum game.
      And that's without considering the danger of having the wealthy class in a democracy clearly consider themselves "aristocracy". It's always been treason to hold a foreign aristocratic office as an American citizen; the Founders literally forbade anyone to be both an aristocrat and an American. That wasn't done idly.

    Statistics PhD here who made about a fast food worker’s wage during my dissertation. I help Jesse out on some math: $40 k annually pre tax under our oligarchical economy means going into debt for living a life with just absolute bare necessities. We see right wing silliness every day, but it’s genuinely astonishing that someone who clearly has never had to work an hourly wage nor knows how to do basic arithmetic can opine about how good untalented have it. His elitism seemingly can only be rivaled by his stupidity.

    They also have such inconsistent schedules that they’ll usually never get 40 hours. They’ll have 3 hours on Monday, 10 on Tuesday, 6 the next few days, and another 3-4. All as inconveniently timed as possible to completely destroy any chances of a regular sleep cycle

      In case anyone wondering, Patrick Bet-David the host got rich off insurance MLM where 90% of his "agents" earn $10K or less per year (64% of which make up the "earning $1K or less per year" bracket). The kicker? That's _gross_ income. In any MLM, you need to pay just to join and must continue paying into the scheme in form of renewing license, buying products etc.

    I worked 36.5 hours a week in fast food until they raised the cap for full time benefits, then I got to work 38.5 hours a week with no benefits, yay!

    The "pre-tax" point was understated. Two people working full time all year don't make $80,000 to spend. They get about $64K. For a family, that's nothing. For one individual in 2024, that's getting by, and you'd never be able to "splurge."
    It says so much about Jesse Waters's psychology that he's a multimillionaire who's so sickened by the idea of a "serf" making enough money to live.

      I've worked a lot of jobs in my life. Food service was the first, and it remains the hardest for a multitude of reasons.
      That said, I do believe that everyone should be forced to do a year-long "tour" of retail/food service when they turn 18. Would definitely cut down on the disrespect they have to put up with if everyone knew what it was like 🤷‍♂

    I personally know people who busted their ass in a kitchen every day so people could eat, literally the thing needed to survive. Why do we treat people who are vital to how society runs treated so poorly? This includes everyone who does these crucially important roles. Blows my mind.

      Exactly. This was my response. None of these people have clearly worked in the restaurant business. When I was waiting tables in the state of Maryland, Florida, and California I was paid less than $5 per hour. WHY? Because waiters, busboys, expeditors , and even the hostesses make TIPS !!!!! So making $16 per hour , PLUS tips is freaking AMAZING. Fast food workers ONLY get paid by the hour.

    Most fast food workers do not work over 32 hours a week. Only managers work full time. So, the degree of “out of touch” with this group is quite high.

    Dude assumes they would even be working 40 hours a week. Most fast food restaurants wouldn’t schedule you for more than 30 hours so they don’t have to pay benefits.

    The main reason for the wage difference between McDonalds works and restaurant workers, is the fact that restaurant workers have the ability to earn tips, whereas McDonalds workers are stuck purely to their hourly wage.

    To be clear, 6 figures starts at 100,000 and ends at 999,999. So they aren't even making the low end of the spectrum. I don't like that we still say 6 figures, because it's a 900k range, and 100k for a family of 4 is exceedingly difficult these days.

    Working fast food is a lot more demanding than sitting in front of a camera and lying nonstop every day. Fast food workers get yelled at by Karens constantly, work their asses off, and can’t afford to live their life. Let Jesse Waters work at Burger King and see what he says when someone throws their full large soda in his face because they had to wait on fresh fries

    Working in any kitchen, including fast food can be grueling labor. There's a lot more going on than just cooking food. There is no real down time. If your not cooking your prepping food, cleaning equipment, walls, floors, ceilings, hot hood vents, the list goes on

    Typically they won't let you work a 40 hour week at these jobs, because then they would have to give you benefits for full time work. Keep it at 32, you are part time.

    Don't forget most fast food workers don't work 40 hours/week. Only the managers get 40 hours. Most of the workers are part time, so the corp doesn't have to pay them medical!

    I am a 53 year old woman with a 4 year college degree and have tried waiting tables and working at both Wendy’s and McDonald’s. I was not able to manage working at the drive through or the front counter. The demands and speed were too high for my ability to follow. I could not do the job. At all. Even with support from the team. I was literally awful and quit.
