@@allison471 I cant stop thinking about whether he has an owner out there somewhere desperately looking for him. Has she mentioned if they checked if he was microchipped or anything? Or whatever the equivalent is in the US. I know one of their other cats came to them the same way and Ive always wondered about the original owners.
Cutting back the elderberry made a huge difference in the feel of the area. Sometimes a little bit of negative space is a breath of fresh air ❤
You have inspired my husband and I to spruce up our property. We have lived in our house for 18 years, and other than redoing the small landscape in front of our house when we moved in, our property has always remained un-planted. We are getting ready to make a small garden in the back yard for next year. I've been taking notes on plants I think will do well here, and have a list. Oh aren’t those Dewalt clippers awesome! My husband got those for me earlier this spring and boy did we take back our garden beds with those! I had knee surgery last year so my gardens have been neglected for a few years due to my lack of mobility. Now I’m loving my gardens again.
Just a side not, someone on GA Groupies page said that their grandma cut off a finger (it got reattached) using power clippers. Everyone please be extra careful and diligent when using them!

Laura in the last recap video someone had recommended dill for the swallowtails and you mentioned they love superbena. Dill is a host plant so theyll lay their eggs on the dill! Just wanted to mention that since the kids would probably love to see the caterpillars grow and become butterflies! 💚💚 love the elderberry transformation every time!!!
My curly parsley and rue are also host plants for swallowtail. Mine get stripped every year. I plant them specifically for the butterflies. The plants REALLY rejuvenate afterward.
Thanks for the fun fact. I put dill in again this year and have been hesitant to let it flower. I love having it for my salads. I may have to add a whole bunch of it next year for our lovely swallowtails.
I plant parsley and dill every year just to watch the caterpillars. They work fast to clear the leaves

The transformation from 2019 is spectacular. And the trimming up of the elderberry was very satisfying to watch.
I am joining the chorus to trim up the other ekderberries. It looks visually cooler to me to see that area of shade under the leaf canopy. The west border is now gorgeous. I can't believe the transformation over the years. Off topic: was the Kinzley's Ghost honeysuckle moved from along the driveway? I haven't noticed it in a while. That plant inspired my own quest to find that plant, and this year mine finally has bloomed. Thank you for making me aware of this plant.

This space, with the urns & arbs, perennials etc. the elderberry is beautiful but it really does take over the area it’s in if it loves it’s spot. I didn’t see the peony that has been hiding under there.. lots of hard work today! Great job! 😊♥️
That elderberry looks soooo much better! I love how versatile they are. I’d go after the other spot as well, maybe leave the elderberry on the very back side alone. I thought of you when I saw Linda Varter using them this weekend. ❤
It is a thousand percent better with the elderberry trimmed. That area is now just perfect. I think trimming the others close by would really look nice as well. I need to buy the new Dewalt pruner!! ❤

wow ... even I can breath a bit easier now - hahaha !!! While you were trimming the elderberry, I remembered something I was told years ago about pruning Japanese Maples - a butterfly should be able to fly through without touching it's wings on anything - I love the look of the tree-form shape. Of course, I think we were all thinking what will she plant underneath now in that big ole empty space !! Great video full of knowledge, encouragement, inspiration - and the joy on your face working with Benjamin, and Samantha Grace riding her bike, is priceless. I am so glad you cut that Elderberry, it was making me crazy! LOL I wasn’t seeing the separation that made the “little room” along the walkway. While it has pretty blooms during the season, it is a bully and blocks every plant/shrub nearby. It would be so much happier and look better in the South Garden. But it IS your garden, you can have whatever you like!
To me it blocked light to the north pole arbs
Ohhhh before you plant anything under the elderberry, that would be the perfect special space for a tea party for Samantha and you or her friends (or her dolls if she’s into that). Just put a picnic blanket down. Maybe her dolls would like to “climb” the elderberry. Or Benjamin may love to play there. That’s where my mind goes with spaces like that. Or she may like a little fairy garden under there. 😊 I have granddaughters about her age, so I like creating little spaces in nature for them to play. Then they’re not just around it but in it, using it. 😍

I am so glad DeWalt made this clipper tool. Please use it for all those jobs that make your arm so sore. I’m 76 and did all that you do when I was younger and it has come back to haunt me with pain and several orthopedic surgeries as a result. But wouldn’t change a thing. My great granddaughter ( 3 yr)asked me the other day “ why you do flowers”. She paints so I told her I don’t paint good so I paint with flowers. I’m priming her robe a flower lover. And thank you for reviving the artist in me. Coffee in the morning with Laura

Oh Laura....thank you to Ken, Aaron or whoever puts those particular pieces of music on your videos. 🎼🎵🎺🎸 They're my favorite ones and I love listening to them...I could watch grass grow, paint dry or water evaporate if it was happening with those songs. Gives me a lift of spirit! My son got me a pair of Craftsman power clippers for Mother's day to help make trimming easier for me and wow do they ever. He knows I can't keep my hands off plants! But I have to be very careful to not cut off a finger with them. So I use it two handed as much as possible to keep both hands away from the blade.
Lots of work done today. Got a glimpse of the beautiful solitary pink hollyhock and truly hope the seeds will be collected and offered to viewers.

When cats bite, it's actually a sign that they love you, so please don't get too upset with Douglas when he does that. The fact that he follows you around and rubs against you is another sign he loves and trusts you. I'm rooting for Douglas to win you heart ;-)

I love seeing your son in your footsteps. My son used to do the same thing. As my son is in his 50's now, he continually tells me how good his childhood was. Children are so great!
My favorite kind of video is watching pruning and clean up. Looks neat and tidy. Also my favorite job in the garden. The result is so satisfying. The elderberry looks so much better and having the view all the way to the end of the space is lovely.
My husband bought that Dewalt pruner for me this spring- it is so wonderful! Faster and hands and forearms don't ache after a full day of cutting. Husbands are such blessings! Tip- work great on fruit trees also.

And I agree about the other elderberry’s on the end, being a back drop, and would not trim them up. The fullness gives a cooling effect as well as beautiful background for the ground plants.
Love watching your shows after I’ve had my morning breakfast digestion time I call it down here in the deep South where we’re getting 95° and 95° humidity of about 114 horrible so the yardwork is very minimal now till the hot goes away but I am making a butterfly puddle today out of a birdbath at the birds never came to because I do have five cats. Go figure love love love butterflies.
I received a DeWalt power pruner as a Christmas gift. It cuts through those larger branches like a hot knife through butter. It is now part of my garden arsenal.
Wow, limbing up the elderberry makes a huge difference, love it, I vote for limbing up the other elderberries you have in the west side flowerbed, I think it improves the overall look of the bed and makes you appreciate the elderberry as a specimen plant and then you can really see it and the surrounding perennials even more as individual plants,

Sometimes it is just nice to appreciate the natural form of a clearly happy plant, but I boy was I glad to hear you say you were going to prune it! The Elderberry at the end of the row provide a nice backdrop and privacy so I’d leave it like it is. But the other that you trimmed is just great! Beautiful as usual!!❤

That elderberry is gorgeous limbed up. Pruning is at the top of the list of my favorite things to do in the garden. I love limbing up and giving legs to shrubs. Gives a breath of fresh air to your long border. I vote limb up all of the elderberries. They tend to make things look overgrown in the garden.
I have been wanting you to do this and I love it. I vote you cut back the next one and leave the one on the side with the annuals natural. I also vote brunera under the elderberry in the shade for that silver color.

Seeing you at the base of the elderberry trimming away... made me think about when you were getting rid of all the suckers under the lilac. The whole time I'm expecting you to stop to say you got something in your eye and right there you just took that piece of whatever right out your eye. Loved the SpongeBob insert of being grossed out by you putting your garden fingers right into your eye!!! And you were happy that you didn't have to go inside.... you just kept on working!!! Anyway I know it feels good to tackle a garden clean-up project and make room for more plants!!!!!
