  • Fishing tackle ranges from cheap to eye watering in terms of cost. But what's right or wrong?
    And are we forgetting the most important thing....

    Quite right. Back in the early 2000 ish I had two float rods at £160 then I won a 10ft Pro performance margin float rod in an Angling times contest. I think it retailed at approx £32. Guess which one became my go to rod? ( Well ok, I admit I had it paired with a Stradic reel).
    The point is that the fish don't know or care how much you paid or what name is on the tackle you use. Knowledge and watercraft make the difference. 😊

    No matter what gear you own, a young lad with a cheap setup will still bag-up next to you at some point. Even made the mistake of giving a rod to one lad because he was float fishing with a 9ft spinning rod. Now he loves telling me how well he's doing with it while I'm sitting in front of an empty net :-)

    Fishing is just a mirror of other aspects of life isn't it some ppl are flash Harry's no matter what they have others are fine with basic needs....im.a middle of the road man...I buy best I can afford..cheap don't last..simples..but as you point out field craft without doubt the biggest asset u can have ..

    You never know what's going on behind the scenes in someone's life. after always saving never spending money always being called a tight arse, in March 2020 i caught covid, had a stroke, and nearly died since then I've thought sod it what am I always saving for so have spent on fishing gear now people that have no idea say things like all the gear no idea, tackle tart, buying more gear won't help you win etc etc etc. there are always some that just want to have an effect on others !!!!

    It’s nice to have a bit of banter though..? Anyway last year I sent £2000 on a pole and seat box but this will last me 15-20 years just like my last ones. Completely agree with the watercraft though, that’s vitally important 👍

    Its not the tackle on the bank that catches fish its the tackle in the water and a lot of new tackle is for catching anglers not fish

    Great comment on both sides each to there own on what they are happy with craft is a factor but there are budget items out there that are equally as good as high end items I’m new to match fishing over past couple years and I’m adding to my artillery bit by bit with educated research 🧐 from CZcams to suit budget and 2nd hand on high end stuff

      Good luck with it Danny. Second hand gear is great and what was a top of the range product hasn't suddenly become rubbish because the tackle company has updated the colour schemes!

      I like Matrix (obviously) for the Box, clothing and luggage, but rods and reels are a variety of other makes, so I'm not quite at full tart status yet 😂

    I'm the same, i can catch just as much on a £30 rod/reel combo than i could on a £1000 rod/reel combo. I hate tackle snobs who think there better than me but can't seem to beat me in opens, all the gear and no idea. I'm the same, only buy used gear. I can't work due to COPD and haven't for the last 12 years, so i'm always looking out for bargains.

    Some good advice there, having just got into match fishing I've found that the local match lads are very clicky to the point that they make newcomers feel very unwelcome, good job there's a few venues local that hold regular opens that welcome new anglers

    • @MatchfishingTVUK
      @MatchfishingTVUK  Před 2 lety

      It's disappointing to hear that, as Club matches should be the first step to build peoples confidence to enter and compete in opens in my view. Sadly it's not unusual to hear though as Open matches have more of a rotation of anglers so new faces every week.
