The orange wire to the solenoid is because it's an off shelf part that can be used in many different applications such as anti-theft or safety controls (orange wire connects to a different electrical supply). But it does make the device less expensive since it fits many applications.

I have the same problem with my 96. I have bought a CDI box. Last weekend I replaced carburetor, fuel pump/filter, coil/wires and plugs. Noticed I still may have an issue. Sporadic weak spark, huh? So thats it. Will be putting the CDI box on next. Thanks for your videos, very helpfull.👍🏼

Kevin, I had the engine rebuilt on my 2002 EZ-GO TXT and the engine is like new. No issues there. Also has a new OEM carb. Problem is when accelerating, it is extremely sluggish under load. When it’s on jack stands the engine revs beautifully but as soon as it’s on the ground under load it bogs down. Seems like a drive train issue. Any thoughts on what I could try? Clutch maybe?

I've got a '99 ST350 Workhorse. I suspect igniter (CDI box) is bad (runs good at low rpm's, misses badly at high). Replaced coil, helped a little. I bought two igniters ($20/each). Engine would not even start (no spark) with either of them. Checked my pulser and getting 20 ohms resistance, so I think pulser is ok.
You may want to check pulser gap. Spec is 0.020-0.039". Mine checked out at 0.025.
About the only other thing it could be is the CDI box.Did some internet research on CDI systems and am going to try and replace entire ignition system.

Hey Kevin I checked this morning and the pistons are going up and down. So if coil was breaking down and could it have made a noise like the clutch wasn't engaging because the motor couldn't spin up. I'm wondering about the CDI BOX also. Because it just completely just has no spark on spark plugs. At least hopefully now it didn't throw a rod. Thanks for your help. How can I donate some Money for you and your channel?

I would get a small engine spark tester. You plug it into the spark plug wire and the other end onto a spark plug. It will light up when the spark plug fires. The brighter it lights, the better your spark is. If there is no light, then there is a problem with the coil or CDI.

It is. During assembly they have wonderful access and then put the body on. The newer ones are designed and assembled very similar to modern cars. They design everything to fit so tight and in a certain order and the only way to work on them is to disassemble in the reverse order. These machines have been way over-engineered for what they are.
