  • Hey folks! Today, we start up work on our false deck. We build fiberglass stringers for the supports and stanchions for the risers to elevate them off the deck. The false deck helps with water shedding and also makes for a much more comfortable standing experience.

    The amount of work and future thought put into bring this craft back to life is outstanding. I hope you have written all your thoughts and ideas down on the things you and your boys have did in your quest to bring this boat to a better tool to work off of. Doing all this work, gigs and know how in a book could make you a few coins for people trying to repair their own boat repairs. Y'all are jam up in your work until next time stay safe and healthy bye bye.

      Hey thanks a bunch for the encouraging words, Edward! That's a cool idea, I guess for posterities' sake I'm so glad that we did these videos. They've captured near all of our projects and thinking behind them. We've had a few setbacks along the way, undoing and redoing work. But overall we've been pretty pleased with the projects. Have a great Spring!

I feel like I could be there helping you and not be intimidated. Can’t wait for the maiden voyage. Everything you do to the EI just makes her look better and better. Thank you for taking me along. By the way I love the flooring system.

    Don’t forget when you put the decking products you will have water flow underneath it and you want the water to flow out by itself. Self bailing. Good luck.

    Hope all these holes in the deck don't spoil the infrastructure - leaks, water ingress, weakening the deck surface 🙂, nice haircut Len!

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  Před 2 měsíci

      A valid concern, Zero! We do plan to re-do the deck in foam eventually. At that time we'll be sure to incorporate the stringers without penetrations. The deck had some water ingress in the past already. If you go back to when we re-did the coamings I think we captured some of the damage. But the beams are solid 6x4 yellow cedar, the only issue was the plywood, the deck has many years of good service left.

    Just wunderin if when you bought the Emerald Isle if you realized at the time how much effort and time you would be putting into her before you would have her fishing? Or has it turned into a bigger project than expected? Won’t miss a video…love em.

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  Před 2 měsíci

      Definitely a bit bigger scope than we anticipated. If we hadn't had the Fish Tale to go fishing with I think we likely would have said "good enough" on a few things. It's been great getting the EI up to snuff, she'll be a great boat. Once she's fishing, we can then give the FT some TLC.

    Question: Not counting your endless hours working on the boat // how much will the cost be to bring this boat up to speed ? // it looks like you will invest more than the actual price of the boat // just curious how the relationship between price of the boat compared to the renovation looks like // would be great if you could provide a percentage // all the BEST for you

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  Před 2 měsíci

  • @markvandergon4927

    With the false floor, how do clean the deck underneath to make sure fish slime/guts aren't building up? Aren't you at risk of having a stinking mess after a long season of fishing?

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  Před 2 měsíci

      Nah, we'll still rinse the deck regularly. I guess a big part is that you need a hose with decent flow, which we'll have. If you use a deck bucket to rinse it could be an issue though. If something does happen to get trapped beneath we have 2 access hatch areas where the tankage compartment and lazarette hatches are, which we could pull up the boards and hose from.
