- A popular trend right now is the raw wood wood. These Thomasville end tables were an estate sale find. Although not matching, they are the same size and perfect candidates for a flip! I decided to strip the finish, do a beige paint wash to blend all the different wood tones and then I sealed them. I love the final look. What do you think?

I know matching end tables sell better, but for my home I like having the tables not matching exactly. Love this!
I too am not a matchy matchy person. Think of them as sisters not twins.
I’m the same way!! 🙌🏼😊
Ha! I love that saying 😊 I’m gonna use that. 😅
Estoy de acuerdo, parecidas, pero no gemelas. Son un punto de sal en la vida.
I love mismatched but coordinating nightstands for my home so I love that they don't "match." The wash brings them together - and I do love it. I'm a little torn because I have a huge buffet that I did recently for my own home - similar style and color and hardware - and lately I've been thinking about adding a stain coat to it to warm it up a bit! As always - Great result, great video, great styling.
Aw, thanks Mel! I guess that’s the nice thing about this finish is that you can change it easily with a glaze or stain.
You can never go wrong with light colors. Looks good and I love being able to see wood grain.
Me too! Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
I think the color choice is beautiful! Even though they are not matching they still go together. Personally, i think they look fantastic together. Excellent job! 😊❤
Aw, thanks Pam! 🤩🙌🏼
Personally, I just love burl so much that if it were up to me I would have gone for a darker finish for that reason. On the other hand, I love the look of pieces that have a lighter, bleached look in a room, which is why I own so many high quality pieces that came from the factory with that finish. So your result is a compromise in my mind and I am so glad you didn't cover up the burl with an opaque paint finish. You achieved a beautiful result on both and you did a great job of staging the pieces :)
I was torn because I love burlwood too! This burlwood was not as pretty as others I have worked on. It’s still here, but just a little muted. We’ll see someone liked them. 😊🙌🏼 Thanks for your comment!
I love how they came out! The brass just shines on them. Beautiful choice.
I thought so too! I was concerned the brass wouldn’t look right, but it’s just enough contrast 🤩🙌🏼
I love the different styles. I'm not a huge fan of matching tables, excellent job and they turned out gorgeous❤❤❤ thanks for sharing😊😊
Aw, thanks Michelle!
White wash and light natural wood is out for 2024. Natural darker wood is back in style.
I incorporated a dark color with natural doors. Because I do still have light colored furniture. It looks beautiful.. I will never get rid of colored furniture. I don’t follow all the trends of the years. I just like what looks nice. All I’ve had in my life was dark furniture. I’m all over it.
I agree darker wood is coming back, but I don’t think light wood will ever totally go out of style. Think beach and coastal, Scandinavian. All classics and part of a curated mix in a home. Just my thoughts 🤷♀️
I love a mix of colored pieces and wood pieces. It makes for a far more interesting space 🙌🏼😊
Just gorgeous!! Not matching is what helps them look wonderful! 😊
Aw, thank you! 😊
They are beautiful. They could even go with beachy decor with that finish. I love it.
Definitely a coastal vibe 🙌🏼😊
I love them great to see light wood again
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
I like them for the same reason you do. The finish is unexpected and it makes them look lighter and brighter. Someone with a great sense of style will love them. Great job!
Thanks! I feel like they would fit someone’s aesthetic perfectly. We’ll see 🤷♀️
Absolutely stunning job! 10’s across the board, Lisa!!
Aw, thanks Natalie!
They look very clean and organic. Nice!
Indeed! Thanks! 😊
I love them in the light tone. Beautiful!
Me too! Thanks Vicki! 🙌🏼😊
Thank you for taking the doors and hardware off!
For sure! 🙌🏼☺️
Absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you so much! 😊
Love these, not too matchy matchy and I think they can go with a variety of design styles!
I totally agree! Thank you! 😊
I love this light finish, job well done!
Aw, thanks!
They look great 👍🏼
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
I am in LOVE with this set! I love the color and all the cool wood grains. ❤
Thank you! It’s growing on me. It’s different from my usual pieces, but I think that’s why I liked it. 😊🙌🏼
I actually love them! Especially the one with the burl doors. They are beautiful! 💖
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
Love them. Thanks you so much for sharing with us
My pleasure! Thanks for watching 🙌🏼😊
Stunning!❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
Stunning!!!👍
Thank you! 😊
I think they look great 🤩👍🏼
Thanks Helen! 🤩🙌🏼
They are lovely
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
Lovely!
Thanks Kay!🙌🏼🤩
I like that they are different 😊 I'm not too crazy about matchy matchy pieces! Nice work❤
Thank you! 😊 I guess they are more like sisters and not twins.
Love it !!
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
I actually really like this light wood colour!
Thanks Lesley! It’s growing on me. I wasn’t sure at first, but I’m really liking it.
Awesomeness ❤❤❤
Thanks! 😊
Beautiful 😊
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
The light coloured finish really suits those pieces and looks fabulous and modern. I can see them going in all sorts of decor. The only thing I don’t like is the type of grain that is so different on the two doors .. but there is nothing you can do about that one! And I think making it lighter just helps to soften that issue. 👍
I actually tried a second coat of the wash after the video and it helped a little bit, but the woods are just different. It kinda bugged me, but I hope I’ll find the right buyer who will appreciate the varying wood tones. 😊
@@ivylaneinteriors actually I think it’s just the dark patch in the corner catches my eye. Even if that was down on the bottom it wouldn’t be so bad, whoever originally assembled it should’ve put that part on the bottom I think ? ,,, but I’m sure you’ll find someone that won’t even notice that. Im just a bit OCD in that way, 🤪
they really do look gorgeous anyway, and I’m sure they look much better in real life as opposed to what I’m seeing on the screen.
I really admire your tenacity in restoring things. 😍
Thank you!
Very nice!
Many thanks! 😊
Very nice. I'd buy them!
Ha! Well, that’s a good sign 😅🙌🏼😊
Gorgeous!! No reason why they shouldn’t sell!❤❤❤
Thanks! We’ll see 😊🙌🏼
Very nice 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you very much 🤩🙌🏼
Lovely 😊
Thank you! 😊
The wood grain is very beautiful
Thank you! 😊 🙌🏼
Both look awesome especially the burl end table. I don't think I have ever seen Burl furniture this side of the world! We've got black wood and let tell you.. It's hard as a rock.. Beautiful though!
Thank you! I like burl in any species. So gorgeous 🤩
Oh wow! I didn't think that I'd like the paint wash over that gorgeous burl, but I do. That's an interesting new look for one of my favorite furniture styles.
I was skeptical, but it’s growing on me and that’s why I stopped. It’s really lovely in person. Thanks Charlene! 🤩🙌🏼
I would go darker. You teach us so much!
Aw, thanks Frances! I’m torn. It’s so different from my usual style. If it was for my home, I’d warm it up, but I could also see it really working for someone’s aesthetic. We’ll see 🤷♀️
Love it
Thank you! 😊
You did a lovely job. I will be glad
When paint wash goes out of style. The burl was so beautiful and would have popped with a stain. But that is what is selling these days.
True. This burl was weird. When I spray water on a normal burl, it’s stunning. This one, not so much. It’s always hard to know how things will take a finish 🤷♀️
I like them. I'm predicting they will sell fast.
Thanks Linda! I hope you’re right. We’ll see 😊
Well done! But what really impresses me, is that you stay so clean while you’re doing it! My paining clothes (which I also wear when refinishing) are covered with pain/stain. And how do you keep your nails looking so great? I’ve given up trying.
Sanding is my messiest day. 🫣 Well, I try to wear gloves when I’m stripping a piece and it helps. I have to repaint them weekly, but it’s worth it. It’s the little thing 💅🏼
Good job...
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
I think they are beautiful.
Thank you! 😊
Thank you for sharing all of your tips. You have answered many questions that I have come across on my own pieces. Two that I have for you are how did repair the chipped veneer and, secondly, did you touch up the white wash repair with sealer before your final coat of sealant?
The chipping veneer on top? Surprisingly, it was only finish deep and when I stripped it, it was fine. No, I didn’t, but that area will get coated one more time.
@@ivylaneinteriors thank you.
I think I would have stacked them: the one with cupboard doors on top.
Hmm, I never thought of that 🤔
Lisa:
Buen trabajo, espero sea buena venta!!
Oh gosh, yes, I need a sander for corners so bad! They are actually prettier in person. We’ll see if someone buys them 🤷♀️
At first I didn’t like the finish…but I’m a fan of end result ❤. How long did this project take in real-time?
Thanks! Oh gosh, I didn’t keep track. I usually target 10 hours on each project.
I like lighter colors but to me the pieces look unfinished and pine wood looking now. Thats the beauty of furniture something for everyone
Yeah, we’ll see, I might still have to warm them up a bit. I have antique oak stain that would darken it just a bit. 🤔
@@ivylaneinteriors Hi Lisa - I am a burl appreciator and to my eye the burl deserves to be highlighted in a darker tone. You did a wonderful job sanding and prepping. I don't prefer the white-wash on these tables - would like to have seen them in a Nutmeg or Walnut. Kudos to you for your diligence. I enjoy all your videos!
I think she ruined two lovely & stylish pieces of good furniture.
I typically light a bit darker too, but I just wanted to try something different.
Ruined might be a stretch, but that's okay.
So much work went into these pieces! You always do quality work with attention to the details but I am not loving the color. It doesn’t do the burl any favors. Needs more warmth to let that burl be the show stopper it could be. But if you love it, that is all that matters. Thanks for sharing this. ❤.
Yeah, I like the one with drawers better. This is a strange burl. It’s so light. It was blah even with just water on it. 🤔
This isn’t my favorite but I am sure it will be someone else’s!
I hope so! We’ll see 🤷♀️
I do like the finish. It brightens them up and looks great. My only dislike, which has nothing to do with you or your technique, is the burl wood on the left door is very dark and it gives me a "dirty" vibe. Again, that's the wood but I do like the paint wash and the beautiful brass.
Yeah, it’s weird how wood takes things differently. Honestly, I’m on the fence. We’ll see if they sell. If not, I can warm them up and hopefully that would balance out that door. 🤷♀️
WOW , what a good job, freaking amazing. DO not making them darker, keep it blond .
do that again and again
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
🙌🏼🤩
Sister nightstands, rather than twins! I’ve done a few pair like that. I think they’re so much more fun and unique!
Sisters indeed! 🙌🏼😕
A putty knife works well scraping off the finish during the stripping process ❤
Putty knives never work good for me. 🤷♀️ They just don’t take enough off. That’s why I use the scraper and just go gentle. Maybe I’m just impatient. 🤦♀️
I really like them, but the one with the doors, I would have used more wash on doors and painted the inside the same color but not wipe off the wash.
I think the left door needs a little more wash. 🤔 I rarely paint interiors unless they need it. This wood was in excellent condition
❤❤
Thanks Dorothy! 🙌🏼🤩
I like the lighter more modern flavor.
Thanks! I thought so too! 😊
They’ll sell. No worries.
Thank you 😊 👍🏼
I don’t think you’ll have any problem selling them.
Thanks Glynis! 😊🙌🏼
I'd buy them, I prefer the lighter colours.
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
I think you did a great job. Its a bit blotchy on camera, maybe it doesnt show in person.
Thank you! Definitely some varying wood tones still but it looks better in person 😊
