Some great comments comparing Jetstar Business Class to Qantas Premium Economy. FYI for pricing (MEL-SIN rtn): JQ Biz is around AUD$1600 and QF Prem Economy can be between AUD$1500+ (sale price) to AUD$2900+ (PE Saver Fare) to AUD$3200+ (PE Flex Fare). So if you can get Qantas on a sale, it's comparable on price. Else, would you pay a bit more for Qantas Premium Economy compared to Jetstar Business Class?

You hit the nail on the head, Stefan. To me, it's also all about the seat itself and associated aspects such as leg room, privacy, comfort, etc. Everything else is peripheral, or simply icing on the cake. Take care and keep up the good work!

Great vid, Stef. Having flown JQ many times overseas whilst I lived in OZ and most recently last Winter/Spring in Oz on holiday, I agree that JQ biz class is more akin to QF premium economy. Nothing against JQ because it is a discount airline and, therefore, my expectations were properly adjusted. I like the 787, the crew provides decent service and the arrival is on time. The seating is less than optimal even in biz class and the plane is very cramped. Keep the videos coming. Safe travels!

Amazing video Stefan. I've flown Jetstar Business Class from Honolulu to Melbourne and the crew were absolutely amazing but I do agree with you it is not a business class product. Seats didn't recline and wasn't given a menu for the flight we could only choose from the economy menu which was a bit weird. I wouldn't fly with Jetstar Business again unless I was given an upgrade ;)

  • @paulkazzer
    @paulkazzer Pƙed 5 lety +1

Totally agree Stef it’s a PE product but priced as such helps. Used to be called Star class years back to avoid raised expectations. Certainly better than biz on a 737 to DPS if have the choice. Thanks for the great vids as always.

  • @crispetravelfoodadventures

Hey Stefan. Enjoyed your video! I have flown both Jetstar Asia (DRW-SIN-DRW, video on CZcams, and PNH-SIN) and Jetstar Australia (DRW-DPS-DRW, returned yesterday, video coming). I generally enjoyed the Jetstar Asia service more than the JQ Australia. Great food, great crews and a pleasant atmosphere.
Just a note though, the DRW-DPS-DRW service was operated by an Australian tech and cabin crew. I was a little surprised, I was expecting an overseas based cabin crew for this sector. A few years ago I travelled ADL-DRW on JQ81 (essentially a domestic flight), which continues as JQ83 to DPS, and that had a foreign based cabin crew.
Keep the great videos coming, I really enjoy your channel!

Great video mate. My family and I often fly LCCs like JQ and TT for domestic travel but mostly stick to full service ones for international. Contrary to many people's apparent beliefs after taking one flight with a LCC, I actually don't find them all that terrible at all. We've flown JQ and TT pretty much since they both commenced operations and have never had a major issue. Sure we've had a couple of delays at times or whatever but nothing awful or out of the realms of what we've had on full service carriers too. Crew are fine and always very friendly. I think it honestly just comes down to you get what you pay for. Get a cheap ticket, expect cheap quality.

I find the hk to Sydney fights with Qantas to be quite brutal aswell. One leave at 7 landing around 6. And a second about 2 hours later. 9 hours. Double meal service. I normally only get about 2 hours sleep max if any. That is a killer flight.

Ok enjoyed your comparison, I have flown jetstar economy to Honolulu. I found there service both at the check in at Melbourne and on board plane was exceptional, felt comfortable and food was great and fresh. Yes you do pay for extras but that's a low cost carrier you have to wear, but I was very impressed. Yes id like to try there business class as I have flown Qantas business.

Premium economy at best Stefan. Could not agree more and for the price and the length of the flight well worth it...but with an aisle seat. I may be able to help you with "Special Services Lounge" . On a recent flight from London to Melbourne I was in the Emirates lounge and needed to get some Perfume for my sister in law. The lovely girls on reception told me the quickest way from the lounge to Duty Free was through the Special Services lounge. So off I went and found the entrance and saw quite a few people either in wheelchairs or on walking frames etc. They go to this lounge (no food or drink by the way but water provided) after check in and then airport staff collect them and take them to their gate on a buggy. So I assume its an area where all passengers who need help are sent and then collected to head to their flight! Looking forward to the ATC "exclusive"!!! Hope you had a good break!

That definitely comes across more as a premium economy than as a business class product. Reminds me very much of TUI Premium Club on their 787s. Qantas premium economy doesn't look that much more expensive, nor Singapore premium economy... So that's a tough one to work out!

We flew from Phuket to Sydney in Jetstar Business. The service at checkin was excellent. We were escorted by staff from checkin through priority security and outgoing passport control through to the contract lounge which was small but had table service for drinks and ok food selections. We had row 1 A/C but unfortunately parents with baby were in row 3 and the other side with bassinet was already occupied by parents. We were asked if we wanted to move. I stood my ground but then realised the last thing we wanted was an unsettled baby on a night flight so we moved to row 3 in the middle. The crew were Thai and were excellent. They could easily work any full service airline, Qatar, Emirates or whatever. I know they get paid less but I understand it is comparable for their colleagues on other airlines with Thai crew bases. Because we moved for the parents we were thanked by a bit extra service and I was given a bottle or two of wine of my choice when we disembarked as a thanks. I totally agree with the “Business Class” title being optimistic. It is a better Premium “economy” than other long haul LCCs provide imho. Probably up there with QF Premium but I have not tried that. Anyway lovely video and good insights to the SIN experience. I totally hate that at the gate security. I really enjoyed going to LHR via PER recently to avoid the long tiring walks in that overrated airport and grumpy security staff in SIN (nice QF lounge though).

    Wider seat than normal economy
    BAD :
    Footrest is useless
Not much variety in way IFE
Choose jet star business over full service economy

I think the 787 makes a big difference in flying 7-8 legs etc. We flew 787 BNE-DPR (Bali) by day and it was a pleasure in economy. By night It might not be the same without that little bit of leg room and recline capacity.

Jetstar Biz is comparable to Scoot Biz Same configuration, same offerings just about. Your comments are fair. I enjoyed OOL - SIN on Scoot Biz in row 1 A & C which was a daytime flight so sleep space wasn't important and I picked it up on sale for $349- one way. I wouldn't fly either unless it was in Row 1 because of the seat recline and lack of isle access as you mentioned. Similarly I wouldn't fly either on a night flight where I wanted to sleep. Air Asia X has a better seat and overall space which can also be had on sale at very cheap prices which although they are angled flat seat, the cost factor makes up for it. Cheers.

I think the same about the majority of American carriers. They sell business and first class seats that basically equate to what a Premium Economy seat is like on Qantas. Same applied on a recent American Airlines first class from US to Mexico. No entertainment, no premium lounge at the airport and no flat bed. We really are blessed with good quality carriers in Australia.

Reason was price point we saved Au$1000 on ticket price!

(Heathrow has a large selection of cars hence best upgrade ever)

IMHO JQ's 'Premium Economy' equivalent is more like PE on a premium carrier, and certainly not the equivalent of business class on any of the premium carriers.
Debatable whether for 7 to 8 hours its worth the cost as you can settle into economy on a premium carrier quite well, just get in early and choose the best seats, and buy yourself a lounge access in one of those lounges wher eyou can pay to enter
Unless its a special ocassion I'd personnaly pay ECO and use the savings on a premium hotel at the destination where savings add significantly more value and the pleasure lasts far longer; on the flip side if cost is no object, (or the compnay is paying), then pay for a true Business Class or First seat where you can lie flat and sleep well in much more comfort.
When flying your safety is the biggest concern, it doesn't really matter where you sit

Same comments can be applied to Virgin on their 73H aircraft Business class from Melbourne to Nadi; except that Virgin was more expensive and that for a 5+ hours only flight. Departure drinks were sparkling water or orange juice and the food choice was very limited. The seat was very unfonfortable and the crew, although pleasant, was short on numbers, meaning you hardly saw your Business class hostess when you wanted attention, because she was helping out at the back ! And to top it, you did not have access to a Buisiness class lounge at Nadi airport, being accessible for Fiji Airways passengers only.

Yeah I'm 6 foot 2 so whilst there's more room than economy, it's still a little tight especially during the night when you're getting tired and just want to sleep. Thanks Rik 👍

I think comparing JetStar Business with Qantas Biz fares is wrong. You should have compared jetstar biz with other premium economy products. Good video.

A Jetstar Biz vs Premium Economy on other airlines is a good idea. That's the comparison I was making with the product, so it would be a smart idea to compare on price as well. Thanks Viraj.

The problem is though Jetstar markets it as a business class so naturally you’d be comparing it to business class in other carriers. They really should be marketing it as a premium economy

I saw this and thought- Jetstar Business Class- there's an oxymoron! I flew with Jetstar once- and would never fly with them again. They destroyed a minutely planned long weekend trip with all manner of bookings. They made us queue at a gate for three hours (with no seating) took off three and a half hours late (they were doing maintenance on the plane at the gate (?) and by the time we finally arrived our dinner bookings, ferry transport and mini bus transfers (all paid for) were long gone as being a reality. The counter was staffed by 16 year olds who were busier comparing nail polish and dates than attending to anything we asked. It was pathetic. Then there was the plane. It was cramped- no food- no reading material - no monitors - nothing going on. Seats were from some ex-soviet airliner - like I said- Never again! I was a Qantas Gold card holder for years and I thought- wow- flying has come to this!

Twice I’ve purchased return business class fares to Europe for approximately $7500, twice I’ve had to endure Jetstar “ business class” on the first leg Mel-Sin. Unacceptable when paying full fare business prices.

CSER D wow that’s terrible. I’ve used a company called flatbeds.com out of Adelaide. They have a huge range of fares. Cheapest was Malaysia and Oman Air 2 stops but as an av geek I loved it. About 4700$ I think.

I fly all over the world. Without a doubt Jetstar is one of the worst airlines going around. Of all the Jetstar flights i have done including Thailand, Singapore, Darwin, Melbourne, i have always had problems checking in, and the walk into Melbourne terminal is dismal to say the least. Dont even start me on Avalon...I find RyanAir and Easyjet much better, and that is saying something! Needless to say, i do everything possible, including paying more to fly on other airlines, just to avoid Jetstar. I agree that the Asian crew and staff on the ground are fantastic and try to help, but are limited in what they are allowed to do. Australian crew and staff are generally ( not always) disinterested and unhelpful. My best and worst experience of Jetstar service were both out of Darwin Airport. What a contradiction!!!
