    I hit the ball with the right shoulder and take out the conscious use of hands and arms.This move is also THE key to clearing the the left hip. No other move provides consistency to do it. All of a sudden everything fell into place when I discovered it.

    I have tried EVERYTHING to improve my swing and consistency and this is the key! Right shoulder down and towards the ball (out) is the best move to do it. Thanks Eric!

    In my journey of better golf, the right shoulder down and forward is the missing piece to most golf instruction. Without the detailed eyes of my instructor, and the focus on it by instructors like Eric Cogorno, it would go missed. Hitting the ball with a trail shoulder moving down, rather than out, produces such a strong ball flight. Combine this with what Mike Bender coaches on the hands and arms in the downswing, and you have something special.

    I can't wait to try this. For so long I've struggled with stalling at impact, being all squared up and closing the face. I can unintentionally pull a 3/4 wedge 50 metres left yet nail driver all day 🤯, and I play off 5. I think this video may be the answer I was looking for. I found that you can try so many things such as trail arm bend through impact, hands low and left, clear left side, rotation, etc etc but always for that millisecond at impact you can still stall or even early extend. I think this explanation can help alot of golfers. Thanks Eric 👍

    I was told by a Pro at the Golf Shop that I was dropping my right shoulder.... Now I know what he meant. I was dropping my shoulder, which also meant I was somewhat bowing my entire spine, neck, and head in the process. All that is creating a big giant sweeping high hook in my shots, and big block pushes in my off hits.
    Thanks for making it clear as to what it's supposed to look like.

    These lessons are always great. I notice most of Eric's lessons demonstrate iron play. Is there a way to interject in the videos (either directly in the lesson or with a tagged lesson video) IF there are any differences in technique/approach with the Driver versus an iron?

    Love this shoulder discussion. I think if you maintain your spine angle (avoid early extension) and you have the correct shoulder action, it puts your arms and hands in a position that you can’t throw away the angles early. I don’t think that one needs to think about holding the lag. If you do all of the correct things with spine and shoulders, the subconscious puts your arms and hands where they need to be (that’s athleticism). Most people dump the angles because of athleticism, their body is putting them in a bad position and the hands need to do something to get to the ball.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 2 lety +1

      Agreed! The only caveat to that is if there is a clear issue earlier
      1. Open club face
      2. Steep downswing
      Probably 80% of the time (or more) when I see a poor downswing....no lag, etc they also have something bad earlier. If you club face is open your brain will also change the body motions to try and make up for that!

    • @fordfrick4128
      @fordfrick4128 Před rokem

      The concept that early extension is just the mind helping you in a split second because you did bad things early AND that the mind wont have to “help” as much if you do GOOD things early is a game changer and it’s TRUE!

  • @thechumpenify

    I have been trying to get more sidebend in the downswing, but often that leads to shanks, if you have to guess what do you think is the cause of that? Losing hip depth? Ive never struggled with early extension btw.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Would need to see to say for sure...I would make sure
      1. Hand path is moving left enough through impact
      2. Ribcage/chest is rotating open enough
      3. Weight to left heel not toes
      4. Add object outside of the ball if needed
      clubbed likely getting too far outside the ball target line bc of one of those
      Some vids on shanks may help:

    would you say this is how you deliver the club to the ball? im asking if you simply set the club up by the right shoulder, leave it there, and then use this motion to rotate the body with right shoulder through the ball, without any other manipulations?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 2 lety

      Hey Dan! That would be nice but unfortunately the REAL answer is NO. Someone may FEEL that but in reality its not that simple.
      There is a lot going on with arms/hands as well.

  • @joseserranosuner
    @joseserranosuner Před 2 lety +1

    So if I understand correctly the 3 components are:
    Down = Tilt = right shoulder bend (squeezing your right shoulder close to your right hip).
    Out = panning your right shoulder horizontally
    Forward = shifting your right torso and shoulder ahead of the ball => shaft lean
    Right??

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 2 lety +1

      Thats fair!
      The down is the side bend
      The OUT (and forward) is MAINLY from rotation.
      Involved in the forward will also be some lateral shift of body.
      DOWN AND FORWARD is the main part from side bend and rotation....the OUT will happen by itself

  • @chestermicek
    @chestermicek Před 2 lety +2

    So, Eric, wouldn't this down and out motion happen naturally if you set the clubhead to the ball at the outside of the quarter of the clubhead? Meaning, you'd have to go down & out to hit the ball with the center of the club face.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 2 lety

      Hey Chester! Id you have a look at the normal public driving range or first tee you will see very little "natural" good things in amateur players :) Wish it were all easier!

    I'm thinking that I want to get my right shoulder down & forward, but I'm also thinking that I don't want to get my right elbow forward as I do this, but I want to keep my right elbow in close to my hip. Make sense?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 2 lety +1

  • @davecohn6407

    I do not know how much the right shoulder goes down , but it needs to reverse any left sided bend that you supposedly created at the top plus adding right sided lateral bend bend that you are demonstrating here.
    This is an extreme amount of lateral side bend movement between the top and the time when the right arm approaches the lower downswing..One of these movements is incorrect, either left lateral bend at the top or right lateral bend in the lower downswing .

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 2 lety

      Hey Dave!
      Yep a bit exaggerated with drill.
      They are both correct. No getting around that.
      To keep your torso same distance from the ground you must side bend/tilt.
      Start in forward bend.
      Left side bend in backswing (left shoulder down)
      Right side bend in downswing (right shoulder down)
      No other way to do it and maintain your inclination to the ground

  • @davidjackson7051

    The golf swing has to be automatic its to fast a motion to be manipulated the only control we have is set up to the ball and one piece takeaway for most golfers I've struggled with manipulation and the only thing I've found is keep it simple and smooth

      Do what they were talking about at the end. Set your right wrist angle, palm facings the ground on the takeaway, do a half swing while keeping that right wrist angle and a slighting bent right arm and hit shots without releasing those angles. You’ll be force to drop the right shoulder to get to the ball.
