Thanks for sharing these. They're pretty. I hope I can find their names next to the flowers.

Thanks for your compliment! Tree peonies are pretty much easy to plant, you just need sunny location, well-drained soil and a little cold in the winter for them to generate the flowers next year, that’s pretty much it!

No wonder that even with all the new cultivars available, Sarah Bernhard which is now the cheapest roots to buy are still going so strong. The display of all those full blooms are so magnificient.

Sarah Bernhardt is definitely a gorgeous peony over the time, that’s why after a period of longer than a hundred year, it is still popular for everyone, I just wish the stems could be stronger a little bit, it would be a perfect peony, but well, you can have it all, especially this one was hybridized in hundred years ago

Hello, I love your videos and garden. I am glad @Jay_Jay has mentioned you in his videos. - Thanks JJ!!! I live in Australia and have bought Intersectional and Tree Peonies and waiting for delivery, can I ask how you plant them the first time. I noticed you have some Peonies in the ground and the pot. I am familiar with planting bare root roses but not peonies. I have made a big investment and dont want to get it wrong - although my climate zone here isnt as cold as it should be for peonies. I have some herbaceous peonies I planted 1 year ago which havent really displayed much in the form of leaves or flowers. So I am considering placing ice around the perimeter of each peony and feeding it with chicken manure and lime (? I think thats what I read ). Would like to hear what your advice would be. Keep up the good work and inspiration from Canada as it has driven me to buy more Peonies !!!! Arrgghhh :)

Hi, thanks for stopping by my channel, and much appreciated your kind words! I don’t know if you are living in climate zone where is cold enough for peonies, especially herbaceous ones ( they need around 250-500 chilling hours for flowering next year), Itoh and tree peonies are pretty much tolerant on chilling hours (less than herbaceous peonies). For planting bare root, Itoh and herbaceous peonies need plant shallow, their eyes will be close to the top level of soil (never been deeper than 2 inches) otherwise won’t be flowering, tree peonies are the other hand, you have to plant deep to encourage they form their own root. So basically you dig the hole big enough for root, and amend with manure, bone meal and lime ( if your soil is acidic, if it is alkaline, so no need lime), make sure it is draining well (crucial), and after that just fill the mixed soil back, I even don’t be watering as long as your soil not too dry. Rather than that you don’t need to do anything else, please keep in mind peonies generally don’t like too much nitrogen, you don’t fertilize with a lot of N. Good luck and all the best with your garden and your peonies, let me know if you need anything else!
