  • This lacrosse technique is considered bad technique but for those who are able to master it, it can be useful. The “Indigenous” pick up is the act of picking up the ball by rolling the head of the stick over the ball, all in one motion corralling the ball. This maneuver requires a player to hit the ball on the corner of the closed face of the stick, and in one stream-line motion turning the stick head over and corralling the ball via the other corner of the stick.

    My theory is that with the old wood and gut sticks the thicker lip of the stick made a normal 'scoop' a bit more difficult than it is with the plastic sticks. Thus the success ratio was closer to other methods of picking up the ball.
    Not to mention that in box lacrosse this has it's uses when in the corner. Easier with pinched sticks.

    I always just called it Indian Scooping, and your success rate depends on how much you practice! Just like anything. Additionally you can even reverse Indian scoop. In other words do it backwards but with the same hand.

      Great point about practice. Having said that, the proper term these days is Indigenous.

    Sorry but that’s not how u properly do it we take the back in the front and we ➡️ and than while it’s rolling back we put our stick infront and we scoop

      Correct, there are two ways to do it...Rolling the stick all the way over in one swipe or what you see here.

      Why ??

    • @Laxlife
      @Laxlife  Před 28 dny

      @@dontaescisson7472 because it's an all or none technique that is not as efficient as picking up the ball with proper fundamentals. Why risk it? Where we've seen people use it in games is in a scrum where there's no chance to pick up the ball regularly. Some people might "bat the ball" out of the scrum, where others are able to use this pick up technique, which the best are able to do with one hand (again not proper fundamentals). Bryan Kazarian (NLL) was the best at it.
