You've got to hear "True Colors". You'll never forget her....recognize her voice anywhere.
I said this exact thing when I saw him crying!
@@kathiek4239 đOmg, I said the same thing to myself when I saw his tears.... he REALLY needs to see/hear "True Colors"!â€
Agreed.
Please react to her _True Colors_
This! She's so well known for her fun songs but True Colors leaves me a weeping mess every time.
True colors!!!! You must react. She was in the amazing collaboration of USA for Africa written by Michael Jackson and Lionol Riche!
Either you're an easy crier or a big softie but if this makes you cry then you don't want to listen to True colors.
That's a beautiful song.
This always makes me teary eyed
Empath. Like me. :D
He makes the point that being a man he has to drop his barriers to allow himself to be open to hear anything authentically. Basically he can be a man and still alow himself be vulnerable.
I cry just thinking about the song. you just feel her music
You only have to see Salvo's reaction to ABBA's Chiquitita, and you know he's a big softie... in the best possible way!
All she needs is an Oscar to be an EGOT. She's no joke.
I didnât know she is an EGT!
@@benntura Cyndi won a Grammy for best new artist for this album and many decades letter she won again for the Kinky Boots broadway album. She also won a Tony for Kinky Boots and won and Emmy for her guest starring role in Mad About You.
That's exactly what I said when he was reading her Wikipedia page. LOL And I know that she'll do it! She will absolutely, no doubt be able to write an Oscar winning song someday!đđ
The mother in the video was actually Cyndiâs real mother , who only died in the last few years
Cyndi Lauper is the artist whose music saved me as a child. No exaggeration there.
At a very young age where I was isolated and felt like there was no one like me on earth and my peers told me that was true, she was a blazing bright light of gentle but fully unapologetic uniqueness in the world. I thought as kid countless times, "Cyndi is amazing and unlike anyone else in the world and if she can make a place for herself then maybe I can too."
Her music and public personna gave me hope that there was a place in the world for unusual people and I held onto that until I reached young adulthood and finally found my tribe in the world.
I am so very glad you've found her. She is a powerhouse vocalist, a brilliant songwriter, a one of a kind showperson... I look forward to you exploring her many other sensational songs.
She is one of the bright lights in this world making it a better place to live.
Thank you for sharing. That last sentence is truth.
I found out I had HIV in the eighties, I have prayed to god that I would live to hear her next album (for over 40 years), and it worked I'm still here. When I met her, I told her. She was so sweet and positive. She related her stories of people beating it.
I have the same experience but with an other artist. IÂŽm writing here because I now what it is like and want to tell you how great it is of you to share this. Artist as role models are so important and I believe have saved a lot of people from feeling lonely and like misfits. When your young and feel like you different from the people aronud you itÂŽs easy to think that there is something wrong with you even though of course it isnÂŽt. Arists can help through music, lyrics and persona. Cyndi is such a good role model with her way of standing up for herself.
(My hero is Brian Wilson, not the best role model but the absolute greatest survivor. His music very literally saved me.)
All the best! đșđŒđž
"All Through the Night" & "Time After Time" are two of my favorites by Cyndi Lauper.
Ditto
Ditto ditto.
Yes, "All Through the Night" is one of my favorites
Our familyâs favourite !
All through the night đđ
And I LOVE She Bop đŻââïž
Cyndi: Where do we begin. She was marketed as a dizzy bubble-gum park girl. And then she comes out with this genius or word and song. So wise before her time. She is a legend for a reason.
She is a national treasure. She can sing, act, and supports causes that many during those times would never have supported. Just wait until you hear She Bop.
Should we tell him what she-bop is about????
That lyric âyou say go slow, I fall behindâ is what gets me.
It says so much in so few words.
She was running but he was walkingâŠâŠ.
This is one of those 'forever songs' that will follow you your whole life. 10 years, 20 years, 30 years from now, this will come on somewhere and take you back, because it is a magic spell to restore your soul, remind you.
Sarah McLachlan did a good cover of this a while ago, but no one could do exactly what Cindy does.
TOTALLY agree! Cindi is the BEST!
Quirky, gentle, beautiful, controlled.
I literally threw a temper tantrum at the age of 14 in 1984 to see her in concert lol âŠ. Still one my all time favorites â€â€â€â€â€â€
I was also 14 back then... Cindy was the breakout artist, a superstar! Your reaction was absolutely justified, we all would have loved to be there too!
'I drove all night' is another great song.
Yes! Both hers and Roy Orbison's original version are iconic!
"True Colors," by Cindi is also very special. My fav! Great reaction.
she has a special part in everyone's heart. so sweet
Cyndi Lauper and Madonna both can out around the same time. Madonna definitely had the standout career, but she never had a song like this one.
Oh I donât know. I would liken Madonnaâs Live To Tell to this song. Cyndi is so talented and underrated.
And Madonna is nowhere near as talented as Cyndi is either. Cyndi can play several instruments and is almost an EGOT. She has a Grammy, Emmy and a Tony. All she needs now is an Oscar. Madonna never came close to any of those accomplishments.
@@frauleinmonaI wasnât aware they were both in competition with each other. Both are talented in their own rights. Stop putting artists against each other and enjoy what each have given to the entertainment industry. Both are amazing artists.
@djsaxby I donât remember saying that Cyndi Lauper and Madonna *were* in competition with each other. But, one has more talent than the other. And that just happens to be Cyndi. Iâm entitled to my opinion. And the majority of people would agree with that opinion. Yes, Madonna has talent. But Cyndi Lauper has more. Sheâs more gifted in many ways.
Fact check: Madonna has 7 Grammys and 2 Golden Globes. She can play drums, guitar, keyboards, and tambourine. She played drums in a band before she went solo. She writes and produces 99% of her songs. â@frauleinmona
That has to be the most authentic reaction I've seen to Cyndi... She has an amazing voice and I'm not ashamed to admit as a 54 year old man I've cried listening to her.
On another note, the professional wrestler Captain Lou Albano has been featured in a couple of Cyndi Lauper videos including this one, he is the cook in the diner in this video, and also played her father in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun video, also the person playing her mother in her videos is her birth mother.
Fun fact: in the live version of the song Money Changes Everything a young woman runs on stage to hug Cyndi.....that woman is Martika, she sings a song called Toy Soldiers...well worth a listen.
She rocked The Goonies main song!
For a few laughs " Girls Just Wanna Have Fun " or " She Bop ". She sang in " We Are The World ". The woman playing her mother is her mother and was in a few videos. Her honorable father was played by Captain Lou Albano." He was a manager in the WWF/WWE. Cindy appeared at a few wrestling matches.
" True Colors " was another major hit.
Her boyfriend or (guy with flowers) in the GJWTHF vid is Steve Forbert who is an amazing song writer. His most well known song is "Romeo's Tune"
She acts as well! She had a recurring role on the serie, "Bones" as a psychic. This song and True Colors are my favorites of Cindy. â€
Believe it or not, this lady has one of the best female voices you'll ever hear. Range is unreal.
Yea, the day you discover her true voice... Eyes Open Wide
"Money Changes Everything" is a killer hit. There's a video of a live performance I think you'll love.
Written by Prince.
@@tomjohnson2543 "When You Were Mine" (same album) was written by Prince.
"Money Changes Everything" was a cover of a song from the group "The Brains", and written by one of his members Tom Gray.
@@paulopinheirosc Thank you for the correction.
Cindy Lauper is way better dinner than the media and industry projects her. She's a full on artist. If you see her today she's still carries that sense of fashion and aesthetic than wasn't just a trend for her. She plays instruments and it's so passionate and there are songs that show off her vocal abilities like All thought the night, I drive all night, and more. â€
She wrote the music for Kinky Boots
The Lauper clothing brand is her company. Very comfy and stylish clothes.
Cyndi is a Goddess.
She was perfect for MTV at the onset of her career. She was any early advocate for HIV/Aids and LGBT (before QIA+) causes. Definitely check out "True Colors" and "All Through the Night"
Also a great job by Rob Hyman from the band Hooters, who co-wrote the song and sings with her on it, as well.
big boy with big heart can be touched by that song... hug SalvoG xxx
â€â€ I Agree 100%!
Back in the 80s, Cyndi and Madonna were the two big female artists. I could never understand why everyone wanted to be Madonna. Cyndi, to me, was always so much cooler, so much more interesting, so much more talented. I adore her and still do. Woman is a massive talent.
Agreed
Same!
Oh man, Salvo, you gotta go deep diving into Cyndi... you are in for a treat! True Colors, I Drove All Night, Money Changes Everything, She Bop are gonna change your world. They are not all tearjerkers either. Have a fun ride!
Timeless song right here. There will never be anyone else like Cyndi Lauper.
Cyndi is a true artist..... watch out, you're in it now.
"All Through the Night", "True Colors", and "Change of Heart".. more must listens of Ms. Lauper.
We became brothers in tears... Thank you for taking me back to my youth.
Your crying now...I'm 63 now...this is one of my top 5 songs of growing up in highschool....đđđđ
I truly admire a man who is not afraid to show his feelings , as you have. This song makes me tear up too. Thanks.
Go down this rabbit hole!
She gave us an anthem .. Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun.
This is one of my favorite songs of the 80s. I loved this song when I was in high school. †I loved all of her songs, actually!
love how you show so much emotion, great to see.
She won a Tony Award for the writing of KINKY BOOTS!
Cyndi Lauper is one of the greats. Her songs are mesmerizing.
Some fun facts about her and her videos. The boyfriend was her manager and her real life boyfriend. The guy at the diner was Captain Lou Albano (from WWE then WWF). The woman playing her mother actually is her mother. She plays her mother in girls just wanna have fun (Lou Albano plays her father in that video).
Sallyâs pidgins will break your heart.
I really did not expect you to tear up with this one. It is a beautiful song and Ms Lauper was a wonderful revelation for us teenagers fed up with the cold war and corny corporate things.
I was in love with Cyndi Lauper when she came out. I thought she was beautiful, quirky, and that voice, was so fantasticly different than anyone else. I cannot tell you how many nights I fell asleep listening to her in my Sony Walkman headphones.
She has lots of great songs but as already suggested, you should really listen to "All Through the Night"
She is an amazing creative talent.
I saw her in concert when I was 23 when this song was climbing the charts. She sounded exactly the same in concert and was an amazing entertainer. Sweet memories⊠â€
If you watch the 1st time she appeared on the Johnny Carson Show in 1984, she plays Girls just Want to Have Fun....and Time After Time.....and does some interview with Johnny. She is quite the character...
Shes been active since the late 70'S
This song has always made me cry. Music touches my soul it can make me feel and take me away. Youâre the same and itâs why I subscribed
The clothing brand Lauper is her company. The medicine commercial that shows her in a design studio is a clip from a documentary about her life.
1984 memoriesâŠthis song takes me to a time and place, unforgettable!!
She got lucky with this album in that the band The Hooters were the backing band and wrote a few of the songs (as well as the male backing vocal on this song). I would suggest you check them out as well, especially 'All You Zombies' and 'And We Danced.'
This is how you know someone's a great reactor, he was really taking it all in, the song along with the video. He wasn't wondering about silly stuff the whole time, he just understood and it hit him. Beautiful reaction to a beautiful 80's classic.
I had just lost my father in 2005. I woke in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. I was barely awake. Crawled back into bed, put my head on the pillow and then heard this line played, "if you're lost you can look and you will find me". Made my eyes pop open. It was NOT like I was thinking of the song. I wasn't. I was half asleep. It suddenly sounded loud in my head in a way that startled me. Totally felt like a message from my father. And now this song always reminds me of him.
This was the first video shoot that I got to watch live. Main Street in Wharton, NJ, still looks the same, and Cyndis' aunt still lives in the same house. Cyndi looks just like her.
A truly great song from a truly great artist. She's So Unusual is gold.
This is one of the nicest songs that came out in the 80s. No pun intended but it is truly a timeless ballad. It doesn't sound dated and the message is universal for any time period. And Cindy has a distinctive voice along with the ability to sound very innocent with a voice that was at times surprisingly mature and tender. Beautiful song and a powerful loving message that we all need to hear. It never gets old. Always resonates.
She was one of the solo artists singing on We are the worid
And her solo and follow up vocal were awesome!
Love her. Saw her in person when she opened for Cher. She is quirky and amazing and added a great footnote to We Are The World. My youth!
Same. She puts on a fantastic show, full of fun, and pure talent!
You heard her on the "We Are The World" reaction, she really stood out on that one too.
I appreciate your total unbridled emotional reaction ! I enjoy this song immensely ! Back in 1984, my friend from a 12 step group told me that he interpreted the lyrics of this song as if his higher power was talking to him. Which was very touching. Sadly, he hung himself a few years after that. Memory of him always arises when I listen to this song, so it causes more heart felt emotions than I thought most would have until I seen your deeply emotional reaction, now.
One of my favorites from her is "Shine" I used to play it for my daughter when she was a teenager. She's 33 now
One of her best!!
Have loved Cyndi since I was 13. I went to her concert in 1983. Best Concert I've been to still today and I'm 52. She's so unique and such a great talent. You should check out "I'm Gonna be strong" to see how powerful her voice actually is. Fun fact, the man playing her boyfriend was her actual boyfriend and manager at the time. Also, the woman playing her Mother is her actual Mother. Cyndi has many Great songs. She's still one of my favorites today. I discovered a Norwegian artist named "Aurora" who kind of reminds me of Cyndi. You should check out Aurora as well. Both are so unique and special.
Thank you for being one of the view reactors who research the artist before listing to their music.
You are so right that this song WAS and IS still so special. She does have so many incredible songs! Enjoy your journey! Seeing your reaction had me sending you huge hugs through the aether! You are a special man! Blessings to you!!!
This song is a masterpiece. It never gets old.
I saw Cyndi as an opening act for Cher! What a concert
One of the most talented artists in the last 100 years. I just said the other day I want this song at my funeral.
After so much time has past I feel emotional hearing this.
I'd recommend all those singles from that first album, never mind the title song from the next album, which I also recommend. I highly, highly suggest All Through The Night. It really shows off her profound emotional quality, her musical beauty, and her unique style - all in one. Also, Girls Just Want To Have Fun is not just a throw away song. 100% worth a deep dive listen, because it truly is a thing of beauty and brilliance, wrapped up in a perfect pop song. I usually only comment on rock songs, but Cyndi is absolutely a real deal, heavy hitting, legend.
And thank you for being such an awesome appreciator of music, Sal! It really means the world to artists to have people like you, respecting and loving the art like you do. â€
Something in that song touched you deeply!!!
My daughter was starting to talk. Time After Time came on the radio and started to cry. She was in the back in her car seat and tears were coming. I asked her "what's wrong?" She just wanted me to turn off the song. So much emotion. Like the first time I heard Claire de Lune.
She got you
Just like Everyone else, That is song is am eternal Classic.
All Through the Night, She Bop and of course Girls Just Wanna Have Fun đ
Cyndi Lauper is AMAZING!
A great song finds a place in your heart, regardless of what it means to other people. My nephew died at 35 of an undiagnosed freak heart problem. That summer I would run on a remote trail and when this song came on my play list I would just sob. It still hurts and this song still makes me cry.
Cyndi Lauper's emotional songs were the reality to Madonna's glam pop. Both share equal greatness in my 80s mind. Cyndi even had the honor of legend Roy Orbison covering her song "I Drove All Night" during his career resurgence in the late 80s. She's that good. You should listen to both versions if you get the chance. đ
So glad you discovered her!!!
Her music was one of my Holy Trinity of artists when I was growing up. Never forget how much Cyndi meant to me.
I love it when our Salvo gets verklempt.
Check out her live version of "Change of Heart." It's from recent years, and this lady has not slowed down one bit. High energy performance, incredible vocals, and ends with an amazing instrumental from her lead guitarist and violinist.
She really loved it when Miles Davis covered this tune!
yes true colours is a great song. i saw her in brisbane in 1986 and she was really was special.
This was my intro to MTV i early 1984. Fun fact- cable tv wasn't available in Detroit until the late 80s.
She was more pop punk than anything else. This song reminds me of someone. Heartbreaking.
Iâm GenX and saw her as a child. Eddie Money opened for her and my mother was having an anxiety attack, breathing into a paper bag. But mom took us kids there despite her agoraphobia⊠RIP mom.
Top 10 track of all time!
You stumbled on an absolute gem Sir. Only one song of hers surpasses this one, True Colours
My favorite part is when sings OH! Weâll be waiting!!!â
It was my wedding song when I went to the altar! After a short time he got physically and emotionally abusive⊠but I learned to stand up 4 myself. So I will never give up faith and hope for love ⊠it will come for sure youâ€
She was the voice we danced to in the 80s - 90s - in the lesbian bars Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was so fun! Along with Pointer Sisters Jump! And Eurhythmics Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves!
And slow danced to Anita Baker!
She is a legend!
Also remember the Early days of the WWF with her and rowdy Piper and the piper pit. Just good stuff!
This song makes me ache for my younger years when I was in my early 20's. So many great emotions and memories come flooding back to me.
She can sing 5 octaves that's insane. True colors is beautiful đ
This and True Colors get me every time.
Everyone loved Madonna but I thought Cyndi had more talent in her little toe than the whole of Madonna. A true artist. â€â€â€
Cyndi Lauper is a great singer
Her version of "I drove all night" is also amazing
The way I would describe her voice is cute & adorable.
She is a true legend. Her voice is her own. Her creations are beautiful, thoughtful and quirky! She has offered incredible musical pieces, that are all her own. Thank you for taking the time. She is pretty perfect!
It was so easy to love Cyndi and I have for her entire career đđđ„
You've got see my girl rock da house with her concert video Money Changes Everything
She has the most gorgeous eyes. Love her music.
yes! Half moon eyes đ„°
She burst onto the scene like a firecracker with "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" (which you may have heard somewhere cos it's such an iconic song). Seriously grabbed everyone's attention with her voice and style, and the rest is history.
