Our spitfire genius Min Yoongi (aka solo work stage name: #AGUSTD (aka BTS stage name: #Suga) was the primary writer and producer for Daechwita.
Yoongi has said that although Daechwita has many historical references as well as “hidden traps”, it’s up to the listener to interpret it as they wish.
Min Yoongi was 25 yrs old when he released his long awaited 2nd mixtape. “AGUSTD D-2”
AGUSTD mixtapes were released Free on Soundcloud as a gift for his fans and was unpromoted... It went on to break several records across the world. 🔥😎

What a lot of people miss in this MV is at the beginning, the peasant character exchanges a "look" with the butcher...the butcher is the executioner at the end. So in that scene, it's like he and the butcher/executioner plot together to take out the king.

Pronounced “August D”. The song was who he used to be (cruel, selfish, greedy. He grew up poor, had to fight, and became all these negative things) fighting against who he became (humble, kind, and honest but fierce at everything he does. He became the humble king). The gun he used to shoot who he used to be (the “king” character) is called an Army (which is what he also calls his fans) so essentially he killed who he used to be with the Army (his fans) and has made it as the kind and humble king. The true kind. Daechwita means a traditional Korean song/cadence that’s played to announce the Kings arrival.

Now that you saw this one, check out their live performance of this song on the Sowoozoo live concert they did last week. This is Suga's solo song, but they did a combined performance, even the vocalists had parts. What I love about them is they have 3 legitimate rappers, and vocalists. They have so many different combinations they can do. Check out their cover of Fix You by Coldplay, where every rapper actually is singing, first time I saw all of them sing.
Yeah, they can all rap too. Hobi killed the verse where Agust D is bound at night surrounded by the flames but I also saw a split screen of Jungkook at Sowoozoo with this MV and he hit every single syllable and didn't miss a single beat. I miss young rapping JK. And I already miss Jimin and RM rapping in Spanish.
So glad you enjoyed the music video! There are lots of non-obvious elements and that make it fun to watch again and again. You mentioned that it was cool that he had his homies in the video with him. Actually, I believe those were background dancers and a staffer but, if you notice, there are 6 men and 1 woman... they represent the 6 other members of BTS and ARMY. Their CEO Bang Sihyuk also makes a symbolic appearance on a scroll. There are also references to Agust D's previous works, but I won't spoil those for you. He explained the meaning of this MV and it is actually a lot deeper than it seems. Blonde Agust D - the king - represents his past, another name of king is "anger". When he released his first mixtape in 2016 he was blonde and that mixtape contained raw, personal, but also agressive songs. Black-haired Agust D represents his present-self, the person, who overcame his hardships. He also said that he doesn't know if the king died of survived. So this MV is about confrontation between his past and present. He talks about such things in many songs and "Daechwita" actually continues topic of his song "Interlude: Shadow"
AgustD wrote, arranged, acted in, this self conceived masterpiece. Some say the 3 heads hanging from the balcony represent the three heads of the dominant record companies in Korea. They made light of BTS , something I'm sure they regret. Stay well

Oh, yay, my favorite movie! 😁 It's about the struggle within Agust D between the brash, arrogant younger self (the king) who wanted success so badly and just went for his haters' necks, versus the current day Agust D (dark hair) who is comfortable and successful, and doesn't need to brag so much or chop off his critics' heads (metaphorically, of course). He points out that we don't know if the bullet hit its target at the end, though - the tyrant king Agust D could rise again. Did you notice that BTS members Jin and Jungkook were the ones fighting behind him? 😀
Please tract to Interlude: Shadow music video which is his solo track on a BTS album. It’s one of my favorites. It’s a combination of rap and trap. It takes whole different turns throughout the sing/music video and of course the music video is insanely high quality production.
To me the thing that distinguishes Daechwita the song from the rap genre generally is the entry of the taepyeongso instrument at strategic points of the flow effectively elevating the song's energy without the listener truly understanding why he or she is getting increasingly hyped up as it is a relatively unfamiliar instrument. The taepyeongso's unique double reed woodwind sound combines with percussion instruments in actual Daechwita to denote the entry or passage through open spaces of the King, thus doubles as military salute.
