  • College transfer students: this one is for you.
    I know what it’s like to be a transfer student and I am here to tell you everything you should know about struggling with imposter syndrome, feeling behind in your career, finding your passion, and getting experiences. All opinions are my own and I’m only sharing from my experience-everyone goes through different experiences and struggles and this is how I’ve coped with mine. A lot of the information I share really depends on your major and what you plan to do with your major. Do take what I say with a grain of salt because it may not reflect your experience entirely. I just want you all to know that you’re not alone and I hope this video helped you in one way or another!

    Hi all!! I know it's college admissions season and if you're here watching this video considering the transfer student route, I highly recommend. If there is anything you want me to cover about college life, the college admissions process, how I got into USC, transferring from a community college, feel free to leave me a comment of what you would like to me talk about!

      I am thinking about doing this but unsure about what school I want to transfer to. I know that in order to transfer successfully without losing credits you have to do the right courses... do you know if there is a sort of blanket class plan that the good CA schools all mutually accept that would allow me to qualify for multiple colleges at once and I can decide from there?

    • @CheyenneTrac
      @CheyenneTrac  Před 3 lety +3

      @@malahm9164 I would recommend starting on GE courses! UC's and CSU's utilize the IGETC, which you can Google for those requirements. As for private CA schools, they usually have their own GE requirements but for the most part also follows what the IGETC outlines. If you have a few schools in mind, I would recommend looking up their GE requirements to see if there's anything in particular they look for :) hope that helps!

      hi cheyenne i hope ur well, just out of curiosity at what age did you transfer and would u say it'd be difficult for a 23 year old to fully experience the college life? i know it's a bit of a weird question but for me due to certain circumstances im expecting to graduate around 24 but will be transferring to uc at 23 and havent had a chance to experience college life. i really want that hogwarts harry potter type wizardry waking up every morning excited type vibe idk if that's too much

    I work for a community college in California - Orange Coast College. Thank you for sharing your thoughts especially how you are facing imposter syndrome. This is something I will definitely advise my students about. You are deserving of your spot at the university you transfer to and you bring an important perspective to your classmates. Statistics show that transfer students add so much value in terms of retention and graduation rates and universities do recognize that. Good luck. You got this!

    This is going on right now, first week of class, class was on Monday and I cried after the day because a freshman asked me for advice of how not to make the mistakes I did in community college, and when I got into my car, I balled my eyes out in the car because I saw myself in him but also reflected on the past and where I’m at right now. I’m so nervous this week but also excited for this new journey. Thank you for this video.

    I feel relatable to many things on this video and comments here as I transfer to UBC from CC as age of 23. I even transferred to uni without knowing my major lol so the syndrome was real cuz everyone else was doing job hunting while I was still struggling learning about new field, which made me behind sm. But then I realized I will be able to do that at my own pace cuz literally, "everyone has own timeline"

I know the transfer process next year will probably be different depending on where I go, but I was wondering what you needed to complete your application? Was the personal statement essay for the transfer application similar to the one first year applicants (hs seniors) write?

    • @ashtastiic
      @ashtastiic Před 3 lety +1

      @@amarishuang2243 No problem! Happy to help :) It all depends on which school you’re thinking of transferring to after you have gotten what you wanted from your CC. For example, the two universities in my city (unfortunately, there’s only two) use the Common App, and one of them doesn’t require that you answer essay questions, but Rice does that you do so. For example, as a transfer student, I had to answer the same exact questions that they would typically require for first-year applicants except, one of the questions was about why you wanted to transfer specifically there at the school and why you would make a great fit for them.
      Usually, they require they same thing that you would need as a first year applicant. Like your standardized test scores, high school/college grades, EC’s. It really depends on the school that you want to apply for.
      I actually wasn’t planning on transferring so soon this year, but I also thought about it for a while and decided that Rice was a great fit for my academics and generally, for myself.

    Community College Freshman here! This video made me feel SO SO validated! Lots of times I would have anxiety about transferring bc I planned on going to go CC for 2 years to get my Art Associates degree which means I would be a Junior by the time I go to a University/Art School. I worried that since I didn’t get to experience university as a freshman, so many people would be ahead of me and there are days where I beat myself up thinking that I should be good at what I do as an artist by now but yet I’m still learning to go better.
