1: Unscrew crown, and wind if needed 2: Pull crown to third position, and set time to 6:30 am or pm 3: Push the crown into second position and set the date to one day before your time 4: Pull the crown to third position, and do a 24 hour cycle so the date changes. Now set the time.
@@fiddycashflowpi No its perfectly fine. for a lot of watches, the day changes a few hours later than the date. usually around 3am or 4am so youre good
This is excellent advice on how to take good care of your mechanical watch. Those making comments saying this video is too long or you talk too much, seem to have the attention span of a bird. This video is not only straight to the point, but you also explain in detail why not to do certain things when changing the date and time on a mechanical watch. Good job.
Everyone made it so confusing and for over a year and a half I never use the day and date function because I didn’t wanna break it thank you this is the best video extremely appreciate it you are the best
In computers words sometimes the simplest things are most difficult to comprehend.Alex explaining this subject is perfect, one of the best I could find on CZcams. If not for him I almost stuff-up my new $1800 Seiko. Thanks so much Alex.
I just got mine, just the cheap SNK805 since it was under $80 and was in green, but came with no manual. I was confused why the day of the week was in 2 languages and how to know if I was setting it for AM or PM. But thanks to your video I think I got it figured out now. Thanks a bunch!
My brother in law bought me a automatic watch which is a seiko 807.. I was really puzzled with this date settings. Thank u for ur vdo. It has helped a lot. 😌
Dear Alex! Thank you very much. The video was very informative for me. I've just got my Orient watch yesterday and with your help I could set the date/day properly.
OMG than you so much!! i've been stuck with the error without even knowing how to properly adjust the date, until i found your tutorial. Thank You so much!
I have a Citizen Automatic Divers Watch. Trying to set the correct date was driving me nuts! I downloaded two different manuals to try and make sense of it, and they did not... But you did! Thank you Alex!!!
This sorted my problem, getting the day and date right for a certain time of day; setting it to the day before then winding the watch through to the correct time of the day is the smart way to fix it. Thanks.
I didn't know about not reversing the dials and I thought it was never change the time between certain times meaning I had to wait but now I know it's just putting the hands in to the 6.30 position. Useful thanks sir 👍
Thanks for the video. Big help. I just got my first watch today (not a watch guy) and following the instructions was confusing. Your video tutorial made it much easier. And i like the warning on how an automatic movement may get damaged.
Thank you, now it's clear how to set up a automatic watch. Mine is a Seiko SKX007K, but the time range is not to set the watch between 09pm-04am (according to the instructions manual)
I have question sir...i am beginer. So what happened if i quick set the date when it in change zone date..? It will broken.? But i only do it once..thanks
Thank you that was very useful with my Sharp Quart..apparently the calendar was set by the jewelry repair guy..but but mine also has French days too! How fun
The easiest way that I remember is set to time adjust mode swing the hands around until the day/date or date fully changes (this means you are in the AM), set hands to 4:20, change day/date, adjust time, done... I dont know anyone who adjusts their time/day/date at 1-4 AM... i've had automatics for years and i have never had to adjust my watch between 1 and 4AM.
Excellent advice. I remember changing the day and date on mine and then checked out the manual later. Luckily, I had changed the date during the safe period!! On not moving the hands backwards I had heard somewhere that you should go just a tiny amount past the correct time, maybe one tick and then move it back very slightly to the correct time. I personally don't do that but I always wondered why that advice was given. Maybe it related to old watch movements.
you can easily brake your watch if you change it between 9pm and 3am because of the gearing at those hours due to the gears are getting ready to turn the dials of date and day. thats why they brake
Thanks for posting, I recently got this watch only skxj007j Japan import model (basically the same in terms of function), all great points and some I did not fully understand until seeing your video :) One thing to add is how the crown screws back down, possibly confusing and disconcerting when first doing it. The manual does not cover very much. You press and hold the crown in while gently turning it upwards (with noon being up of course). I've heard it is possible to strip threads with too much force.
I have a Whittnauer automatic watch and I took it to a jeweler to set the date and he did, then after a couple of months it went to Spanish...a multilingual watch?
I’ve heard of people hacking the watch by rotating the time backwards. Haven’t heard of anybody damaging their watch doing that. Hacking may actually be a waste of time bc of the accuracy. Thanks for the video bough. I have a 007 coming in the mail.
But am i missing something or not, the seconds hand is still not re-configured? I understand there is no hacking, but i want my time exact with the seconds hand.
I just got an automatic watch and out of the box the watch was set to around 11:45. I went to pull the crown out to second position to change time of day and as it when through the first pull to change the date it accidentally shifted the date, it was unavoidable, looser crown. Does this hurt the watch?
One question guys when i screw in the crown i hear the sound of like when im winding the watch im new to this and i really dont want to damge the threads
1: Unscrew crown, and wind if needed
2: Pull crown to third position, and set time to 6:30 am or pm
3: Push the crown into second position and set the date to one day before your time

Why 6:30 🕡 ?
Why not 12:00 🕛
@@sunny27jan because if it is at 12, the date wheel may start to change
So I did that my number day changes right at 12am but the wording say Thursday doesn't change untill 3am does that mean it's broken?
There’s third position 😂😂😂

I like how you just went straight to the topic without placing some ad, or talking bullshit for 10 minutes. Definitely worth the thumbs up 👍🏼
@Mohammed Gunner Stay away...it’s old trick mate
Setting my watch is like tying a tie. I should know how to do it but I come back every time I have to do it because both aren't everyday tasks for me.

i was struggling everyday. thanks for the protip about 1830
Automatics run plus or minus a few seconds a day anyway so
My Seiko auto is about eight years old, lost the owners manual so giving this a try, thanks!
Thanks! I do appreciate you explaining the mechanism since it gives a better idea of what we're dealing with.
Thanks a lot for this information. I‘ve judt received my Seike SKX007, followed your steps and I‘m ready to go... ON TIME
Thx for your video!! I tried to set it up before and never worked. Glad to know there is a correct way to do it. Thx again Alex!!

You have already unwind the crown. This is what you should have said. First unwind the crown by turning counter-clockwise, and show the procedure.
thanks, just set my Seiko 5 according to this
