Now this is why I watch the Boys, I've been missing well written moments like this ever since. Ryan standing up to Homelander while mirroring what Homelander did in S3, it's almost like poetry, it rhymes. And you have scenes with Kimiko, A-Train, The Deep, pretty much everyone in this episode actually is interesting.
Ryan is how Homelander should have been raised. Instead of being treated as a test tube, he was raised by Becca, a kind human mother that showed him compassion, love, and empathy. Butcher liked him in his own way too and wanted only the best for the boy (Kessler aside). And with how Ryan talks about normalcy and family, this scene parallels Homelander's baby rage speech about being perfect. Even near the end with Ryan cutting himself off, it encapsulates how even if he is sick of Homelander and lies, he is not going to completely ruin his father's image. The fact that Homelander is upset at the end shows that he really only cared about Ryan because he was HIS family and not the other way around. He should have been proud that Ryan started finding his own way and wanted to be an honest person. Instead, he's crying over the fact that his son preferred his biological mother and godfather over him.

I just love the juxtaposition of Ryan and Homelander’s reaction to the threat of getting cut off.
Homelander immediately goes with a threat “don’t you dare stop rolling Roger!” He knows what he can do and he knows that Roger also knows that too. So he throws his weight around like he does with everyone he interacts with.
Ryan though while being stern doesn’t really use aggression but instead compassion. He simply asks them to not cut him off. Even to go as far as to say please. He’s not commanding or demanding or threatening he’s just asking and pleading to these people to give him his time to talk.
Dunno it’s just a nice detail to show that despite being the son of Homelander he couldn’t be more different from him.
but seeing homelanders reaction, confirms that he will kill every non supe next episode and it’s already been leaked.

Can you imagine if The Boys ends with Ryan flying above the Earth and smiling in a perfect Christopher Reeve tribute? In a weird crazy way, I think it would be the ideal ending.
For such a bleak and nihilistic show, it feels fitting that it would end optimistically. That’s something I’ve noticed about scenes like this and A-Train’s redemption, we’re so used to supes being shitty people that when we see them act like actual heroes, it feels powerful and earned.

There's so much right about this scene. This was Ryan's "I AM BETTER" moment, but it's such a good inverse. Homelander demands the cameras to keep rolling while Ryan pleads. Homelander proclaims his own strength while Ryan proclaims the strength of others around you. Homelander repeats this and Ryan doesn't even need to finish to convey what he needs to get across, but they're both showing their true colors. Joe looked so defeated, there was nothing he could've done to have diminished the value of Ryan. Butcher loves that boy to death.
This, right here, proves that ultimately Ryan is a better person than Homelander will ever be. Sure he has his moments where the Homelander part of him shows itself but he spent twelve years being raised by a good mother who taught him right from wrong. And Butcher, despite his constant flaws and hatred towards Ryan's father, still wants to look out for him despite everything. I'll bet that he's gonna turn on Homelander at some point and that will be Homelander's final breaking point. The finale is gonna be something to remember.
While Garth Ennis the writer of the original comic dislikes superheroes in general, he absolutely respects Superman to the highest degree. Wouldn’t surprise me if Ryan becomes the Boys’s version of Superman
i remember that argument between butcher and stan during season 2, on how important it is for ryan to be raised with his mother to prevent another John from being born.
what ryan not only proved that point but exceeded that expectation, because even though after losing her mother, he carried her wishes on and grew up with a heart of a human being. this outcome was only expected if he still had becca by his side as he grows up, mallory and william lost custody of him, but he proved time and time again that he was raised with such a great mom enough for him to overcome his father's evil advances

I love the genius of the show, and I honestly think Ryan will either kill homelander or heavily contribute to it. no way he doesn't find out about how he was concieved by the end of season 5

After this, I think Ryan will be the death of Homelander, but not in the way most people would expect.
I believe Homelander will confront Ryan and then throw a huge tantrum. Really lose control and terrify Ryan. The boy will run away and finally realize there is no good in being close to his crazy superpowered father.
Once he calms down and realizes he turned Ryan away forever, Homelander will start losing his mind even more than he already has. And his precarious mental state will facilitate his eventual downfall in Season 5. He will be vulnerable and careless and pretty much everyone (besides The Boys and CIA, by now Homelander has made enemies out of A-Train, Sister Sage, freaking Ashley and even Victoria, who seems smart enough to agree with Hughie, even if she doesn't have the balls to stand up to Homelander for now) will take advantage of his state in order to finally bring him down.
That is why Billy is the better Dad.

The song keeps saying "if you see something, say something" while the puppets are selling lies to kid's audience to promote the evil schemes of homelander and supes. It appears to me almost as if this was Ryan's conscience telling him to SAH SOMETHING, to tell the truth, to warn the public about what's happening and to prevent the innocents (kids) to participate in evil actions. When i see this scene i can see Clark Kent in Ryan, he reminds me of Smallville's Clark.

That’s the thing, You just can’t have a Morally Perfect Superman in The World of The Boys. If Ryan grows up anything to be like Superman, He’s mostly likely gonna act like Captain America from the MCU (Has a Strong will and is compassionate, Always tries to do the right thing even if he’s not always right) and like Superman from BvS (He isn’t above killing someone if it absolutely need be and he isn’t above being a little Selfish).
Overall you’ll have a Insanely Powerful Ryan who is prone to Human Mistakes and low points but he’ll always bounce back and try to Improve himself, The World and Everyone around him. He won’t be his Father but he’ll be a REAL Superman who says swear words, goods around and takes a Day off now & then.
We might see homelander finally snapping in the final episode. He might even kill Ryan
