You’re comment about getting an arse kicking as an apprentice reminded me of my apprenticeship days in the 60’s when I got my arse kicked for blaming the rubber valve sucker for my inability to master the art of getting it to stay on the valve whilst rubbing it between open hands
Hey John, you might want to try glueing a wooden dowel on the face of the valve with instant glue (CA). that way you are not fighting it. just use some acetone b4 to clean it off of oil, and after to release the dowel and clean the glue off.
Another great video. You often make or repair spare parts but we seldom see them back in operation afterwards. It would be good to see them working, alongside the satisfied customers.
Reminds me of the old man doing the annual de-coke and letting me do the lapping in. had a thought come to me the other day, you don't see "RUNNING IN- PLEASE PASS" signs in the back windows of cars anymore.
Hi John. In the last shot, when you’ve got the spring fitted, it looks like the valve head is standing proud of the shoulder. When you were grinding, it was level with the shoulder. Worth having another look? Thanks for the video, Bill
Building our lasses' new shed with her yester, she's lining up the panels and I'm screwing them together - she made reference to moving one by a fanny's hair John. Naturally I asked if it was a fit thick ginger one or a airy fairy thin blonde one, she said blonde. You're new system of measuring needs tying in with SI, so on that note, could you please make a conversation chart from mm, to fanny's hairs mate, for consistency. Thanks marra 👌
I got a set of those VDE screwdrivers from Aldi like that one you showed, they're far too brittle and the ends just shatter if they encounter a recalcitrant screw 😢

Good stuff John. Everyone does need a friend like Bob.
After fine lapping paste, use brasso for the final lapp. I was always taught to have the seat cut at 45 deg and the valve at 46 deg

That 45 degree insert is chipped.
everyone needs a Bob 🙂
The world needs more bobs.

Real old school …wonderful to see
I believe you are correct that there should be two nuts on the spindle .
That seat was sure tough when you started.
Thanks for posting John.

A rubber suction cup wouldn't work anyway, due to the screwdriver slot in the valve.

I quite like the voiceover, cheers John.
The toolpost grinder that you have would have been good for redoing the valve?
I have a 15/16 spanner which is 24mm for 16mm bolts!
Excellent videos John, keep them coming 👍🏻👍🏻
as per brill
nice to see the old stuff getting a new lease on life.
Good work there John.
Thanks John
Wouldn't it have been better to make a new guide pin for that seat cutter?
It would have taken longer to get the same result .
Chances are I will never need it again .
Thanks for watching
Is that the original Foofoo Valve ?
It's the hydro blowcock solenoid valve!
