A Couple of Nomads?
Who are we?
Well, we are a couple from worlds apart that has chosen Valencia, Spain to be our home. Vicky is born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, now an American citizen. Josh is an American, well, born and raised.. ya know.
We left our family and friends and moved to Valencia, Spain in the middle of the pandemic. We decided to that we should also start a CZcams channel to show the world that, you can do anything (even if you are getting grey hair), if you think you can! If you want to see how a couple of expats can live the Mediterranean dream, and you want to join us on our journey...then subscribe, we would love to have you as part of our extended family!
Thanks for this video❤ We will be in Valencia next month so will definitely follow your recommendations.
Very helpful information
Thank you for this video. God bless
I love Valencia!
I love this City
I want to love there!!❤
One of the favorite cities x all. VALENCIA Well cared for and very clean is the first thing you notice when you arrive. Famous beaches known throughout Spain, here you will find everything. Young people - older - Freedom for all etc. A city famous throughout Europe. An exceptional time. Quality food and very cheap. Good weather and its beaches. Good road transport service and very good highways (Free). By AVE (high-speed train) to Madrid --ALICANTE-Seville-Malaga-GRANADA. etc. Well-preserved highways throughout the territory. We have the best beaches in Europe with 800 blue flags (water quality-services-cleanliness). Its lovely people. COME AND YOU WILL BE CONVINCED. (Because we receive 80M tourists, he answers......)
Well to be honest smells like pee on most places and there are graffitis everywhere. Could be cleaner, but I like it so far.

@@ACoupleofNomads You've helped us put Valencia and the surrounding area firmly on our bucket list. Maybe we'll see you next spring :)
@@rcpeterson56 Awesome! Glad to hear! You guys will love it 😊Yes, let us know if you come to Valencia!
Many thanks! After living here two years, we've visited most of these places - some several times. :-) Great list! One thing I've found is that the food here, compared to Montreal and NYC, is that the ingredients are much, much fresher. Orange juice (but, not from trees!), olives, bread, tuna pizza, tomatoes, and everything else is just fresher and better. Dishes are different, but even having a typical North American dish, with ingredients from here, would taste much better. One can understand why life expectancy is longer in Spain than in North America.
Hi Stefan, We have not been to Valencia yet, but love Malaga. Do you know it, how do you think it compares to Valencia?
nice video :D
Great video, but ...
I am a Valencian, and I missed a visit to the El Palmar Island inside the Albufera lake and a boat visit to the lake, being one of the most touristic things to do.
And if you read or watched some Blasco Ibañez novels even more.
And also a visit to the south beaches, from Pinedo to Perellonet.
And Alboraia's (at Els Sariers) orxata - north city frontier.
All i pebre, and blanc i negre amb fabes i alls tendres.
I hope to watch you enjoy those and other places and foods, in a next video "10 more things"
Great recommendations! We plan to produce more videos about Valencia, we’ll keep it mind. 😊Thank you for watching!
I plan to buy hol.home in N. Costa blanca .Access to Ibiza .Drop in to Valencia ( park looks great.) So thx for vids from this area. I like idea of Oliva ,but Altea (watched your vid.)looks also cool
Thanks for watching daddyrich! We want to go to Oliva soon😁. That’s a great area!
Now I am hungry 😄
I will do 9 out of the 10. That odd shaped cone...Carmel will try it. Ohhh geezzz I need a vermouth.
Thanks guys! The waffle shape is weird, but the taste is really good! Once your here vermut every day😂
One Day, I'll get to visit this place 🙏🏻🤍
You definitely will! Hopefully soon 😊Thank you for watching! 🙏🏼
For anyone wondering about the orange trees: do not eat the oranges of the trees in the streets. That orange variety is not for eating, it is too bitter. If you go outside of Valencia city limits, there you will find the orange tree plantations, which have a different orange tree type, which is shorter, producing the famous Valencia's orange.
Nice summary of where to take your guests when they visit you. I’d avoid Market Colon,
but haven’t tried the restaurants there. I like exploring (stalking locals) and eating where they do. LOL. Plus when you interact with locals, they take you to the best places, and it’s usually good and cheap. Food looks great, but be careful otherwise you can gain weight quick if you eat with an American perspective. There is no way your wife is eating more than a bite or two of some of what I’ve seen her eat! LOL, she’d be 200 lbs! Maybe see you soon. Moving to Alcossebre in September.
Hi Ken, this is Vicky. Thank you for watching our video as always. Market Colon has lots of expats but also locals, there are some great restaurants including Habitual (by Ricard Camarera), but the restaurants are pricey. Other places can be hit or miss but certainly a fun vibe to at least have a drink 😁And I like eating, you’ll be surprised how much I can eat 😅 Everything in moderation though.
Good luck with your move!
@@ACoupleofNomads thanks
That's a nice video! I've been many times to Valencia and really like this city 😍

Thank you! We land in Valencia Sunday. How did you eat that dipped in chocolate treat with a white sweater and come out unscathed? Lol
Haha I tried to be very careful. Not always successful though 🤣 Hope you have a great time in Valencia! Thanks for watching!
I love this video but I'm surprised you didn't mention the Llotja de Seda and Puerta de Serrans much more interesting than a phallic donut shop 😅
That was for fun. Everyone has different things that interest them. Maybe you can create your own list. 😊
Planning a trip to Valencia in September. What district do you reccomend to stay in. Love your videos.
Hi Emma, welcome to Valencia! If you are visiting, we would recommend either City center (or old town) or Ruzafa area. Depending on your preference. Ruzafa is pretty young & hip area, lots of cool restaurants and bars, many expats live there. Old town is clearly touristy but it’s beautiful, and you will be close to Central Market, Cathedral, etc. Ruzafa is about 20-30 mins walking distance from old town. If you want to be close to the beach, El Cabanyal is not bad but you will be further from the city center. Really depending on your preference. We have other videos showing different parts of Valencia, so they might be helpful for you.
@@ACoupleofNomads Thanks so much we are watching all your videos in preparation for our long awaited trip. Much appreciated and keep up the great videos.
You’re welcome! Hope you enjoy Valencia as much as we do 😊
Las naranjas del rio Turia son "bordes" son muy acidas y no están buenas para comer, son mas bien ornamentales, buen video.
There are two news items on the internet about tiger nut horchata (tuber)
-. NASA includes tiger nut milk among the regenerative foods for their trips to space.
-. The qualities of horchata that have conquered the RUSSIAN SPACE AGENCY.
The oranges from the trees in the streets are of an acidic variety. They are not edible, that variety is only for garden ornamentation. Thank you for visiting my city, welcome to the world of flavor, welcome to Valencia
Yes! Those are not edible. 😅 We love Valencia. 😊Thank you for watching!
Greetings from San Francisco and suggestions …. “ as Valencia’s do “
1. Go to the same dog park every night , the locals will welcome you. My wife got practice her Spanish often.
2. Benimaclet …have you been there ? It is a time machine.
3. Kaf Cafe open mike ..it is quite the cultural bohemian European experience.
4. Also, Batsphere in Cabanyal is an experience.
.
My wife and I can hardly wait to leave The San Francisco fog and be in Valencia. We almost bought a place very close to Ruzafa.
Hi Francisco! Thank you for the suggestions and hope you get to come to Valencia soon! 😊🇪🇸
@@ACoupleofNomads let me know if you got to Benimaclet. …or any of those places that’s Spain for Spanish. Btw , I am A Venezuelan of somewhat Canary islands Moroco descent. My wife are thinking about buying a property in Ruzafa. We have invested in California real estate but now is just too much so Spanish urban neighborhoods seem very sensible. Congratulations.
.
.
…and yes, I am fluent in Spanish. I can read documents …up to the math. I am a mathematician.
So nice! Which district would you recommend for a student? I'm will do a semester in Valencia next September :))
Hi Julia, I believe a lot of students live in Benimaclet. Good luck with your school!

Hey Josh, Vicky, new subscriber here thanks for the great video, it's really informative. But let me ask you a couple of question, how many American ex-pat living in Valencia and are you guys permanently living or retiring in Valencia?.Thanks---Nathan from S.F.,California
Hey Nathan! Thanks for watching our video, we’re glad it was informative😀. There is a robust expat community here. We are here on resident visas that can be renewed, permanent is a long time, but do love it here!
Thanks Josh, Vicky for the quick response. Do you guys have a video explaining why did you pick Spain to reside/migrate and also how affordable the health insurance for future retirees?. Thanks again-Nathan
Hi Nathan, you're welcome. We do not have either one of those videos but may in the future. Valencia was just ranked the #1 destination for expats in the world. Also health care here is fabulous and really inexpensive, like under $100 a month, no copay or deductible!
@@ACoupleofNomads hmmm I'm in Spain now at the moment in Seville after a month and a half stay in Portugal which gets me to the reason for writing ... I was told Portugal is easy to get residency and although there weren't many Americans there sure was alot of expats from the uk mainly but still even for Americans its considered not as difficult as Spain I believe but I could be wrong let me know how easy it was for you 2 and also great video I'm buying my ticket now for Valencia then Barcelona after!
@@Sebastianx007 Portugal does have a D7 visa, I’m no expert on immigration laws, but it seems reasonable to get. The main difference is the passive income requirement for that visa (a lawyer told me if you apply with just savings immigration “might” approve it) if you have a pension or retirement income, etc you would qualify. In Spain it can be based on savings and/or passive income. The process although bureaucratic is straight forward as long as you have everything your regional Spanish consulate requires, which is strangely different…so just make sure to look at the consulate’s requirements page for the consulate you would interview at! Enjoy 🇪🇸!!
Hi!!
I have a few questions. Is it true that the shops are closed on sunday?
We are going to at pentecost. Do you think we can programms? For example the oceangraphic?
Thank you very much!!😊
Hi Amanda,
Many shops are closed on Sundays in Valencia, especially religious holidays. You’ll really have to check each store’s website or call them to see if they are open. A place like Oceangrafic you can buy tickets right on their website, they are probably open. Have a great time!
Are there umbrellas and chairs you can rent on the beach?
Hi, I’m the summertime they usually have them for rent in the beach. Thanks for watching!
Hi, what camera do you use to record this?
iPhone 😊
I was wondering if the mercado central is accessible with a wheelchair?
I’m sorry I don’t remember, I think there was a ramp to get inside.
haha, sour orange😂
Thank goodness I read the comments before watching. If it’s all about food, then you aren’t talking about Valencia ....fail!
I am coming any extra recommendations ? Art, galleries ?
Hi Nelly, we recommend you to check out Valencia Secreta for additional info.
Hello
Not the sour oranges 😂
It would be much more helpful if you gave some example prices of the things you're eating and ordering, so that people can know in advance if it may be worth it.
We'll try next time!
Any advice
There are many many language programs, we tried Visit Valencia.
Hello guys. I do live in Brighton, UK, for many years. But I am Spanish, from Valencia. I just have to say TOP TOP TOP video.. made with love, all truth. Valencia just need more promo , as we have have all the rest... easy. Do you live in Valencia guys?. Rice, not only Paella, rice dishes, nowhere in Spain better than Valencia to eat rice dishes. Make a new video about, how and where paella was born, and where to go in Valencia to have a proper paella & rice dishes. Rice dishes...in Valencia.. are much more than dishes..it is something very, very, very, important for us. In fact, I always say; in Valencia you can have the best and the worse paella in Spain, lol. Why?, easy, paella is from Valencia, the rest, are cheap copies (sorry to say that, but Valencia people cry when we see what in the rest of Spain they do with paella). We have many tourist, and many places where to eat paella, but not all unfortunately are good places. But yes.. we, have the best places.. and... original ones. Willing to help if needed with this matter for a new video about paella & rice , :) . Congrats guys, love it!!!! By the way, I'll be in Valencia this September , lol.
Hello Antonio. Thank you so much for watching our video and your kind words! We have lived in Valencia for about a year now. We agree, rices dishes are amazing here but not all of them are great. 😅 We definitely are planning to introduce paella on another video maybe after the summer. Probably in Albufera. But it’s in our plan! If you have your personal recommendations on which restaurants to go to, let us know! 😊 Connect with us in Instagram. @a_couple_of_nomads
Is there any british n irish expats in valencia
Yes, we believe there are quite a bit!
It was quite hard to hear what the female had to say in this video at times. Valencia looks lovely though. Nice video.
? I don’t know why, but we’re glad you enjoyed the video!
La música de fondo no corresponde a Valencia.Esa música corresponde a Sevilla y Andalucía. Pero muy bien el resto
