Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun at an average distance of about 228 million km (142 million miles) or 1.52 AU. One day on Mars takes a little over 24 hours. Mars makes a complete orbit around the Sun (a year in Martian time) in 687 Earth days. Mars is a rocky planet.
Its surface consists of brownish-reddish blocks and is quite irregular with craters, mountains, deep valleys and a special crater which is the entrance for the Mars Dungeon. Unlike on the moon, you do not leave footprints. Meteors may also fall on Mars.
The surface of Mars is orange-red because it is covered in iron(III) oxide dust, giving it the nickname "the Red Planet".
Essentially, the majority of Mars is reddish-brown, owing to the presence of iron oxide on its surface. This color is also quite clear thanks to the rather thin nature of the atmosphere.

According to ESA, Mars' atmosphere is composed of 95.32% carbon dioxide, 2.7% nitrogen, 1.6% argon and 0.13% oxygen. The atmospheric pressure at the surface is 6.35 mbar which is over 100 times less Earth's. Humans therefore cannot breathe Martian air.
