      Would be great to see you create some closet shelves in Fusion, starting with drawing the walls, then the shelves. Or maybe some simple french cleat tool holders using Fusion.

    This was one of the best tutorials I've seen on Fusion! It was some wonderful combination of 'if you're here you're probably not an idiot' and 'this is complicated, let me explain'. I wouldn't change a thing about the pace at which you do these. This isn't a live course and you do have the option of rewinding and watching a part you're stuck at repeatedly to get it just right.

  • @MrJimbul

    It is not for absolute beginners - but it is EXCELLENT, well done - exactly what I needed, bridged a stack of stuff i learned years ago and had forgotten - the parallel/coincident thing foxed me for half an hour with a constraints error but once i read the comments here no issues.

  • @Queesinbean
    @Queesinbean Před 4 lety +14

    I'm typically not one to comment on CZcams, but thought I might add here - I watched this because I like your videos and you tend to recommend Fusion 360 (and I've seen others do it too!) but I wanted to add - I'm pretty sharp and used to CAD programs, but I feel like you zipped through some things so fast I had to go look them up outside of your video to figure out how you did what you showed. For example, your bit on mirroring the table legs, I was following along and found mine wouldn't work - I got "Compute failed" and "One or more patterns could not be intersected..." etc. I googled it and found it's because you've got to change Pattern Type from "Faces" to "Components" in the mirror window. You have it selected (likely by default) but didn't mention it to us absolute beginners :P.

      I was hoping I'd find the answer in the comments, this drove me nuts, thank you so much! I will agree that some things are entirely glossed over, there's a lot of "click this here" I was trying to follow along exactly and just ended up removing the hole from the bottom plane of the table in my own way. the thing is the video is 40 minutes long even at the fast pace so I think this is probably the best way it can be done.

    I found this video when looking at how to model furniture specifically- I loved the pace and glossing over some of the basics; the Lars Christensen videos were excellent to find my feet with using Fusion 360. I think this was a great next step. I've found too many tutorials that are more about making a very specific part, this video sets an excellent groundwork/skillset for modelling any type of furniture. Thanks so much!

    This is for Intermediates; not for Absolute Beginners. Saying "you could create it this way (and then draw it), but I'm going to show you another way", tells us that Fusion is very flexible. But it confuses many people. Just show one way and stay committed to that way; don't change in the middle and say "or we can do it this way". This is a very helpful video, but it will be one I have to watch about 4-5 times in order to get certain points down.

    Question: Why not use 0,0,0 as your center and mirror off that instead of making construction planes? I feel like you can skip a bunch of a extra steps that way.

    • @alcarp2896
      @alcarp2896 Před 2 lety

      Good question, but in learning and teaching fusion, one finds that there are at least 5 different ways to do anything in fusion. One would still have to choose a plane to mirror over, but instead of a midplane, your midplane would be the original vertical plane. 6 of one, half dozen of the other. He chose to do a one way extrude--could have constructed on origin and done a two-way.

    One specific suggestion: Stop saying "here" and shortly wiggle the mouse cursor somewhere. That's very hard to follow because the mouse cursor is small and while you move over other stuff, Fusion highlights irrelevant things. There are a couple of occassions where you say "click here and here" within maybe half a ssecond and I am left wondering what just happened.
    How about "click here *on the front pane of the bottom component* [stop for half a second and only move the mouse very slightly] and then click here *on the back pane of the bottom component [stop again for a short while]" Thanks a lot!

    You overshot "Absolute Beginners". I'm looking to make the move from Sketchup to Fusion and learned Sketchup watching videos like Jay Bates, etc. I was trying to watch your video and work along but you move too quick through the small things. How do I get to the parameters window? I had to rewind and go through, watch again, and then do it. If you're going to focus on beginners, slow down and explain the small stuff. Your default units were inches, mine were mm. How do I change that? Point being, this isn't a video being for "absolute" beginners.

      Yes, please make a version with more details and step descriptions! I really am an "Absolute Beginner" and I got to about 15 minutes with setting the speed in CZcams to 0.75 plus a lot of pausing and rewinding. Then I did something wrong and by trying to fix it I botched the whole design :-(
      And then there is stuff like this: Now and then the "Sketch" ribbon goes AWOL and I fiddle a bit and then it somehow appears again. What even are the differences between component/drawing/sketch/body? Some explaining of concepts before you dive in would be great!

  • @alcarp2896
    @alcarp2896 Před 2 lety

    A suggestion--if I were to use this model for construction, I would want to see a set of views with dimensions. Perhaps include a quickie on how to get dimensioned 2D drawings along with the nice model? Its a pretty simple thing to do, and would be critical for anyone needing this to construct the table. For my class, I have every student submit a set of pdf's along with the f3d model that show top, front and side views with all important dimensions labeled, or I take points off their projects...this one should also include an exploded view of the joints you made.
    Good video though!

    Thank you so much for this, it's a great to see a project from start to finish. It might help to pre-plan these "tutorials", you jump around so much, it's difficult to follow along. This would be for someone that has some experience with Fusion 360. Constraints are great, but not really beginner friendly, it would be useful to set dimensions at design time.

    I have been using TurboCad Mac Pro for a long time and there are some things in Fusion a bit difficult to do understand. Question: every time you make models, the sketches should be with the components? Let's say you making a wardrobe. You need to have individual components for: Sides, Shelves, stretchers, doors, etc.? I do cabinets using a Festool domino. and every of those components have their own sketch?
    I got the sketch padlock many times ...

    This video is not for beginners at all. If I haven't worked with similar tools, I wouldn't have solved a lot issues with the model. For instance, when mirroring, you have to explicitly click to mirror bodies, not faces. Not mentioned anywhere during the video etc... otherwise, thumbs up for the parameters section, makes whole model a lot more flexible.

    While I like the use of the mirror command, if you use a drawing to say produce a parts list you will have each component separate. So parts that are the same won't get combined in the parts list table. Because of this I am stuck with using the move command and making copies. Only problem with this is if I change parameters for sizing, the parts don't get moved to the correct location. Is there a way around this?

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline Před 4 lety

      In many cases, you can use the Mirror command followed by the Combine command to join the two bodies (original and mirrored). That makes it work with your parameters and parts list.
