- Let's take a look at Mini-LED laptops and what you can expect if you purchase one in 2023. Mini-LED is an amazing panel technology and really sprang to the market on gaming laptops this year, but for some reason only Asus has this one game-changing feature. I really hope other manufacturers will add this toggle at some point, and I will update the title of this video if I see that happen.
I hope you enjoyed the video! If you did, please like and subscribe to help the channel out, so I can continue making videos like these (and hopefully put them out quicker).

I recently bought the 2022 Flow X16 with the mini Led display. I keep the mini-led feature always on, hdr on, frame rate at 165 Hz and the screen looks awesome. The only time I observe the blooming is when I am specifically looking for it by reducing the brightness and then moving the cursor in dark background. Even in normal browsing and office tasks, I don't see any blooming effects. I researched a lot before buying this one and I am happy to say that I am not disappointed.
Yep I tend to do the same. It’s funny because the Zephyrus M16 with double the dimming zones actually has much more noticeable blooming!
Kaunsa model? M3039ws?
@@JoshCravesTech I believe the 2023 version of Flow X16 also has twice the amount of dimming zones compared to the 2022 version of Flow X16. But the 2023 version's 4070 GPU also has less VRAM than the 2022 version's 3070 GPU so it's a give and take...
Doesn’t your screen always have this gray haze/tint in non hdr content if you always have hdr on?
@@zergslayer69 yez...i use HDR only during watching HDR content and HDR supported games along with multi-zone dimming...rest of the time for work i keep HDR off and use single zone dimming...

Nice video. This whole thing reminds me think of my LG VA monitor, which at a first glance was horrible but, once I learned that I had to keep changing modes depending on what I was doing, it really grew on me and now I really like it.

Thank you for yoyr efforts here. I haven't heard this from any other tech youtuber.
i have a 2022 x16 that i almost exclusively use on single zone. didnt know other mini led laptops didnt come with a switch and cant imagine using one
I know, I was shocked to find out that no one else has it!

Thanks for information! Nice tip wilt the single dimming zone! Pfff hard to find a good OLED alternative...
Very useful, thanks for making it clear.
Watching this video through my X16 2023 right now, this screen is wonderful. The Mini-Led halo effect is not even noticeable for media consumption and gaming, but probably not the best for people use dark mode for text reading or coding. One tip, keep the windows HDR off!
Lucky you! 🎉

i really envy you bro i wish i had that laptop ever since i wanted to have a laptop i always wanted to have one like this asus it is almost perfect i love it and i would like to buy it one day enjoy it
Where did you get it?
Come on dont be mean, tell us how/where we can get one!
Been looking at the new G18s. Good to know about that dimming zone toggle. It will definitely matter to me. Thanks!
Yeah it’s a big deal! Glad you stumbled on this video!
Thanks for making this video! To put it simply, is the Mini-led screen in single zone mostly equivalent to the IPS screen? Mini-led will be brighter, better light dispersion, does it solve the IPS's light bleeds issues?
Lovin your reviews, bro. I can't wait for your 2023 x16 full review to come out. I LOVED 2022 review, I actually saw your comment on Best Buy when I was considering buying the 2022 version, and you completely convinced me. I'm glad I didn't buy it because I was waiting for it the 2023 version. I can't wait to see you just been out for CPU and the GPU, especially for the 4070. Being an audio guy for live mixing an entire Orchestra, I really appreciated how you talked a little bit about how the previous version processed music programming. Not sure if you use your DAW with an insane amount of tracks, I'm hoping with your new review, maybe you could touch up on that with the 2023 units. I personally do not mind the length of your videos, considering how thorough you are especially when doing a full review.
Keep up the great work bro. Looking forward to the full review of the 2023 x16 flow.
Much appreciated! Yeah I will definitely consider that! Working on that 2023 review right now
Great video!
Nice piece of info, thanks mate 💯

I returned my x16 the day after purchasing. If i remember correctly, it had lot of blooming while browsing, working in software, watching hockey.. Single zone was still a bit bloomy. When turned off HDR, sreen became foggy. Didn't find it all comfortable. Will wait for this years models to see if things got improved.
Yeah if you still had blooming in single-zone then you had a defective panel or the software wasn’t truly switching it!
The 2023 model had this issues or it was the 2022 model?
@Milan Just bought 2023 model i9 4070, and it works good
@@celandc5418 it was the 2022 with the issues?
@Milan yes, but not all, apparently I had received a defective device
Hey Josh, what do you think about the X16 model this year with the 4070? Is it worth going for the high end configuration?
There is also a 4060 model available in Germany with a normal LED display.
I’m working on a review for it now. I do like it, it performs about 20% better than the 3070 Ti Flow. And the Performance mode performs a lot better than the Performance mode on the 2022 one, so you can get really good performance at very little fan noise. That’s honestly the biggest benefit to me. Other than that the screen and other features feel the same. Battery life is just a tad worse. And screen blooming is a little more noticeable for some reason.
White text with black background becomes grey and difficult to read with multi-zone. Its incredible almost no reviewer actually mentions this. Cool vid, I went for an ASUS miniled thanks to you.
Just one question; Is single zone backlight the same quality as a normal IPS monitor? Or does miniled has inferior quality compared to a normal IPS when used as a single zone?
Thank you! And yes mini-LED in single-zone basically becomes an upgraded IPS. More brightness, typically better contrast as well, good viewing angles, and usually no backlight bleed or IPS glow.
Do you know if this setting stays as configured on windows when booting some Linux OS?
Just use one zone mode in everyday tasks and that's it. The very idea of multizones is to increase contrast \ gradation of blacks when you are working with HDR... If you turn on "one zone" mode, then turn on HDR and watch a movie or play a game with HDR mode, then "Multizone" mode will be used (also check it in AC)! It doesn't even make sense to use multizone in SDR (just why?)
Yep! I mean some SDR videos can get a little “enhanced” treatment from multi-zone with the deeper blacks but I agree HDR is where multi-zone is king.
Would you suggest 2023 model with 4070 or 2022 model with 3070TI? Use case includes Programming and productivity tasks along with gaming.
The 4070 doesn’t really perform much better than the 3070 Ti at all, so won’t see much better performance there except for at low wattages because of increased efficiency. The CPU however is less efficient than AMD so you will see worse battery life and just pretty okay performance on battery/silent mode. I prefer the 2022 model especially if you find it cheaper, because it’s really not much different. But at the same price then sure I might take the 2023.
Thanks - can the mini OLED screens get burn in?
Great video man!
Appreciate it!
@@JoshCravesTech what is your current main laptop?
@@erichagele right now the Zephyrus G14! I’m really loving it because of the extra power in the 4090 compared to the 3070 Ti but if I wasn’t after higher fps I would absolutely be hanging onto the Flow X16.
@@JoshCravesTech sweet! I was considering getting one. The RTX 4060 G14 is on sale at Best Buy for $1250. Would you recommend that model? The only reason I am hesitant is the lack of mini LED. It is clear that mini LED and OLED are the future and I don’t want to buy something that may be obsolete in 1-2 years. I really like my OLED 240HZ gaming monitor.
What are the trade offs 3060 version with the IPS panel compared to the 3070 ti mini led. Is the difference of the display quality super noticeable? Thanks :)
The display definitely has less contrast on the IPS and the mini-LED gets noticeably brighter. If you never saw the mini-LED screen though, you’d be very happy with the IPS display. It’s still beautiful and one of the better panels out there compared to many other IPS panels in laptops.
So in which mode should I do color grading for my videos? Sounds like single zone is the way to go but there the contrast is very bad, so also not useabke for grading footage. Or do I misunderstand?
Single-zone is the most accurate. Most color-critical work is done on IPS displays despite the black levels, it’s just the color accuracy is much more important, because you can still distinguish what “black” is. Like your brain knows what black is on the display and what 99% black is, because there’s still a difference in light, if that makes sense. But if something like the color red is off by 0.05 of a hue then that’s much harder to detect to the eye, so color accuracy is more important for that kind of work than black levels/contrast. There’s a more scientific answer than that I’m sure, but that’s been my experience at least.
When viewing movies and games in multi-zone, can you still notice blooming? I feel like it’d be similarly annoying even if it changes quickly with motion and frames.
No it’s almost impossible to notice in those scenarios. The exception being looking at something like starts in a night sky or something like that then you might notice a little bit.
I am seeing that when in multi zone and scrolling a bit fast the left white bar of the youtube pannel dims and get brighter rapidly which was not present while I turned on single zone mode. Is it normal for multizone or I am having a display issue
Does single-zone lighting increase the battery life at all? I know Mini-LED saps more battery than IPS, so curious if it makes any difference.
Not from my experience, both are about the same since it’s still being backlit by mini LEDs, it’s the tech itself that causes the slightly increased battery drain.
@joshcravey9728 Hello. I am a future game developer, currently studying at university. I have to purchase laptop since I am gonna be moving it around quite a lot, and that I also live in a dormitory. I am considering buying Asus scar 16 over scar 18. Do you think it is good idea? Sure I need bigger screen, but I think mini led + 150$ off worth buying Scar 16, right ? I also watched another videos on mini led displays, and they are saying that it is lagging, and screen suddenly goes black, does it occur frequently? Or should I stick with Scar 18 with IPS panel ?
I recently got a Zephyrus M16, and upon first noticing the dimming issues, I was devastated - for whatever reason the uneven brightness was very pronounced and noticeable for me, and I was hoping it was due to a missing/outdated driver or something. Nope, turns out that's just how Mini-LED looks, and it's great now that I set a keybind to toggle it! I think of it now as a setting to flick on for viewing media, almost like HDR, instead of a fixed display technology.
Yep, some people seem to be more sensitive to it than others but I can definitely see how people might think it’s a defect at first! Glad that Asus thought of that though.
I'm thinking of getting the Razer 16" w/ mini-led for a mix of gaming and color critical work. I wonder if the monitor suffers from blooming and color accuracy issues.
I would not get it for color critical work personally. Although I have heard it has the least blooming out there compared to Asus and MSI, but no single-zone dimming switch, so your work might appear to have more contrast or certain colors might look dimmer or brighter than they actually are. If Razer adds a single-zone switch then I would absolutely recommend it for creators!
Hey Josh between the 2022 strix and the 2022 zephyrus g15 which would you get?
The strix has the 3060 165hz 1440p 1tb ssd 16gb ram and 6800h while the zephyrus has the same resolution and refresh rate 3060 512gb ssd 16gb ram 6800hs
That’s a hard choice! It really comes down to how much portability you need. The Zephyrus is obviously more portable and less gamery looking but the Strix will get a little more fps in games
If I wanted a powerful, touchscreen creator laptop that had a crisp picture and great color, what would be the best type of display for me? It sounds like Mini-LED. Maybe even via this ROG Flow X16... I just returned my ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED today b/c the graininess and window screen effect was crazy making and too much for my eyes. Is it time for me to let go of touchscreens all together or is there another way? Is it a size thing? I've heard some folks say that the window screen effect and graininess is not noticeable on smaller OLED screens... Anyway, Reddit seems to think that I need to move on and I would rather not. Ty!
Yeah OLED touchscreen laptops all have the screen door effect. This one does not. I’d highly recommend it! I think you’d love it based off what you said
@@JoshCravesTech Thanks again for the recommendation! I finally took the leap and picked one up. I have had it for a few weeks now and I absolutely love it. It's fantastic!
Do you think it's worth getting a 16 inch mini led over an 18 inch ips ?

@@JoshCravesTech well no. Scar 16 vs strix g18 i meant.

Saw a picture of blooming on reddit of the 16" inch which was awfull! And could have been solved with the single dimming zone option you mentioned!
Haven’t gotten my hands on that one but I’m genuinely surprised that Lenovo didn’t copy Asus and put a single-zone switch in it. I’m actually shocked that only Asus has it STILL! I’m starting to wonder if maybe they patented it or something? 😂
@@JoshCravesTech Who knows... probably too much work to built it in through the uefi bios...
Would I be better off getting the oled or mini led display on Rog flow 2023?
The mini-LED option is definitely safer for long-term use and of course it’s like twice as bright. You currently can’t experience HDR1000 with any OLED laptops that I know of. The only negative is the blooming but it’s hard to notice in most content.
Still considering which one to choose, zephyrus m16 or razer blade 16. It seems that coding with vscode can use this one-zone mode of rog, but blade's 13950HX is much better than m16's 13900H. Still struggling
Yep, it is indeed a struggle. I would say that Blade is probably a better machine overall than the Zephyrus M16. I have the M16 in front of me, testing for review, but I do want to test the Blade soon
@@JoshCravesTech So Razer still has their chance to upgrade the Synapse to let the user to switch between one-zone and multi-zone right? If they also offer this feature then Blade 16 is the best choice for me.

does single dimming zone and multi affect battery life?
Not enough to make a noticeable difference. Technically multi-zone should bring more battery life as certain parts of the screen are dimmed or completely turned off, but it also depends on the content
@@JoshCravesTech thats amazing thanks so much for the reply 👍🏽
Hi, did you make it wrong? I think for mine when it's on single zone there will be uneven brightness, but multizone works fine with brightness issue.
Yeah it shouldn’t be like that if it is that way for you. Single-zone treats all the LEDs as the same brightness, so it’s more uniform. There should be no blooming disparity in this case. In multi-zone, some mini-LED zones are dimmed while others are not, which will lead to some brightness disparity.

That would be the Flow X16! Amazing laptop.
I bought a 2023 Flow X16 and ended up sending it back. I was using it for creative tasks and I couldn't tolerate the black backgrounds bleeding into the white foregrounds making all of my whites look gray on certain parts of the screen. This wasn't just when designing, but also when on the web. I loved everything else about it and am so bummed I had to return it. I wasn't aware of the single zone feature so I'm wondering if that would have helped. Has anyone else had the same issue with the whites looking gray in some areas when on a black background? If it can be fixed, I would totally get this computer again.
Ah no!! Yeah single-zone would’ve eliminated your problem completely as it makes it almost identical to a standard IPS panel with that switch. But yes you were experiencing the dimming algorithm doing its work. It looks great in movies and games but not in normal use!
maybe my next laptop upgrade i'll have saved enough for mini led

I wish someone did a max brightness comparison video for the miniled panels vs non mini led panels like on the G15 from 2021 for example. I primarily use my laptop in very well sunlit areas and am seriously considering buying one of these new mini led ones but have nothing to compare to my current 2021 G15
I think I talk about it in my full review of the X16. The X16 gets more than 2-3 times brighter than the G15. It’s nearly blinding in a dark room.

It can, yes. Typically less likely than a normal IPS panel though
Kinda hard to find a laptop that has Mini LED, because on the site it doesn't say that out right

As far as I know there aren’t any Lenovo machines with a mini-LED panel. And even the ones that were rumored to happen (Yoga 9 I think?) would not have a dimming switch and would of course have blooming. I will update everyone when I hear of another manufacturer who implements the dimming zone switch!
Does multi-zone consume more battery?
Haven’t really noticed a big difference tbh
I have owned the 2022 model for almost a year. I have tried multizone with both HDR enabled and disabled, I honestly find the blooming very annoying and ended up disbabling it. Even when I am watcing HDR content, I don't see much differents in colors, it's just brighter. I think OLED is the way to go if you really want true blacks.
I really can’t notice blooming in content unless I’m looking for it, mostly in UI elements. But OLED is always nice for the deepest blacks of course.
@@JoshCravesTech maybe I have a defective panel, or I am more annoyed that I should be by this. But for example the windows taskbar, I can notice a slightly darker area in the leftmost area, and when I hover the cursor it gets brigther, if that's normal I guess I just don't like Mini-LED.

@@august6278Yep, what you're seeing is exactly what's been discussed in the video and the comment I wrote about. It's all normal as expected. Disable mini-LED mode by turning off HDR for regular use. Use it only while streaming videos with HDR or video games. Blooming occurs because of too few dimming zones compared to pixels which is a hardware limitation of mini-LED displays.
2023 versions have 1024 dimming zones (doubled), so I think would be even less noticable

Which is better in terms of color accuracy, mini LED or IPS screens?
Mini LED is a backlight type.
IPS is a sub-panel type.
LCD is a panel type.
A laptop can have LED or Mini LED paired with a TN panel, VA panel, or IPS panel.
In other words:
ALL laptops that AREN'T OLED are LCD panels that either use LED backlight or Mini LED backlight paired with either a TN panel, VA panel, or IPS panel.
VA panels have better contrast/black levels.
IPS panels have better color volume (which is not the same thing as color accuracy).
I bought the Scar 15 in 2021 and it wasn’t until I completely removed all Asus software (buggy, glitchy, system drain) and installed a fresh operating system that it performed brilliantly. That would be the first thing I’d do when buying again. The issue would be I’d lose the ability to switch this feature on and off, or would I?
Is anyone having black screen issues ?
How do i change dimming zone in Linux?
Not sure. There’s a program called Armoury Control from JamesCJ on GitHub. Maybe it’ll work on Linux?
Idc about min-led on regular laptops but i do care about QD-OLED.
It’s closer than you’d think! And no risk of burn-in. But I agree, OLED is amazing
Nebula HDR Display, 100% DCI-P3, Dolby Vision HDR, 500 nitti (cd/m²) Estonia, Euronics
Turned out the asus advertising under strix scar is not true mini led and no hdr . The nits even 500 and less.
So my question is
Is mini led displays better or worse than oled displays
Ofc worse
They’re better and worse. Better brightness, you don’t have to worry about burn-in, and very similar in contrast. OLED’s don’t get nearly as bright but have perfect contrast and no blooming at all. However there’s always a risk of burn-in. With so many static UI elements it’s very hard to avoid burn-in after a few years.
@@JoshCravesTech thanks buddy
QLED displays should be used in laptops
Maybe ASUS should just stick to IPS screens with their gaming laptops, there was little to nothing wrong with visual quality on those panels. All they need to do is slightly increase resolution.
Watch my latest video on why I’m not a big fan of IPS anymore!
They have 2-3x the amount of nits, but if thats like Lumens, you need about 4x the amount to be perceived as 2x as bright.
I'm very split between a 18 inch vs 16 inch miniled
Depends on how much portability you need! An 18” laptop is MUCH bigger than a 16”.
What laptop has an 18" miniled? I don't think this exists.
I bought the 18 inch and I don't regret it. Screen is great and it's a true desktop replacement
nice, i didnt know i could turn that off on my asus
It’s a nice feature for sure! They should advertise it more instead of me having to do it for them 😂
@@JoshCravesTech I tried it and it doesn't work. I can toggle it on/off and it remains the same even with hdr off. I have the Scar Strix 16 (2023) with 4080
@@marc-andrevoyer9973 it’s the mini-LED one right? I’ve seen reviews saying it works. HDR on forces it into multi-zone, but if HDR is truly off then the toggle should work for you. Maybe restart your system without HDR on and try again.
Asus the best undoubtedly
Awww yuck. Great video. I'll stick with OLED.
Where's the M16 reviewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ??
Very soon, like in the next couple days hopefully
@@JoshCravesTech fingers crossed. I’m deciding literally in the next couple of days between the 2023 m16 and g14 (4080), and there are still many aspects like mini led vs IPS I’m still looking at, not to mention gaming benchmarks
fans way too loud and still they are not even close to apple
Let’s play CyberPunk at RT Ultra settings on your MacBook! Oh wait… 😉
Lol what?
This approach goes against the one adopted by Razer and Apple. miniLED is a technology for maximizing color and contrast.
Razer and Apple have already completed the color management of their products for these panels and released their products. Therefore, color accuracy is guaranteed even when using miniLED. However, Asus ignored the efforts that Razer and Apple have done by just adding the IPS option (One Single Zone) rather than adjusting the color accurately. In particular, when using HDR, color gamut control and brightness control (HDR color option, not windows brightness) are locked (impossible) and are useless.
I say it again. The reason why Single Zone exists (as the second-best solution) is that it does not support accurate color profiles and software support when using miniLED (dimming zone). Compare the results with products from Apple and Razer. If you consider this as an option, that is what they want you to think, Haha.
Well Apple just has enough dimming zones and good enough dimming software to where there is no noticeable blooming and dimming. Razer I’m not so sure about. With 1,000 zones, if you’re working on an artwork in photoshop for example, I would bet money that it would look different on Razer’s panel than on a standard color-accurate IPS. With 1,000 zones, if you have multiple colors at different brightnesses next to each other, some are bound to be artificially dimmed or brightened.
@@JoshCravesTech I am honestly grateful to you. As a user of Flow X16, I wanted to tell people how bad the software implementation of the panel was, but it was just a worthless effort because there was no comparison value (other miniLED window products). I want people to know what I'm talking about through this review and comment discussion.
I encourage you to review (at least) Razer products. Currently, miniLED manufacturers are either AUO or BOE (from Taiwan, even Apple!), and the software implementation of panels is entirely up to the manufacturer. You'll understand what I'm talking about.
Also, about the blooming phenomenon, due to the nature of miniLED, even Apple products inevitably exist (very small size). However, in the case of Asus, the 2022 Flow X16 product does not even have decent On/Off Dimming adjustments (basic) for Multi-Zone Mode. HDR mode is relatively fine; however, unlike Apple's product, HDR compatibility with Windows is so messed up that Asus didn't even try to make a color profile for an adjusted color gamut.
school work?
Apple has 22000 dimming zones. The rest are bad laptops with mini led. No one can beat Apple.
Yeah but with really slow response times. It would be miserable to game on that display
Mini-LED is just crappy thing. Turning it off makes all picture normal without light stains. Thanks man
Only Asus Has THIS Feature? Doesn't Razer Blade has it for its price ?
Nope
I don't know why you keep deleting comments when I'm trying to improve your knowledge and provide correct information to prevent harm on social media. If the source was the problem and reason, I'd like to gently tell you that website I provided was a very knowledgeable source used by many panel industry insiders.
I haven’t deleted any comments, what are you referring to? I also haven’t checked my flagged comments either though on this one. CZcams will automatically hold comments that it thinks might be spam or misbehavior
@@JoshCravesTech @Josh Cravey I guess that is what happned. I tried to provide a good information source about the panel. You can search with the word "panelook." Thank you.
I’m still not getting your replies. I think it’s because you’re posting a link to something.
Stop living miserable life
Single-Zone - Max brightness: 500nits, No Blooming, No Dimming Effect, Good Color Accuracy.
Multi-Zone - Max Brightness: ? nits, Little Blooming, Less Dimming Effect (won't go completely dark), Bad Color Accuracy.
HDR mode - Max Brightness: 1,100 nits, More Blooming, More Dimming Effect (Goes almost completely dark), Worst Color Accuracy (due to lack of HDR Color Profile).
Apple + Razer Products - Accurate Color Profile for miniLED display + Max Brightness + Dimming Effect as Base Display (+ HDR Auto Switch *Only on Apple)
Basically, Asus didn't do their job LOL.
What? I’m not sure I follow you.
Multi-zone max brightness is around 800-900 nits. Single-zone is around 500-600 nits. HDR is 1,100-1,200 or higher. There isn’t really “more blooming” in HDR. It’s the same as multi-zone but with increased contrast and other benefits of HDR.
Multi-zone and HDR don’t have “bad” color accuracy. I ran calibrations and tests using my Spyder X Pro and it was about the same colors on single-zone and multi-zone. The only thing that affects accuracy is when a certain color is dimmed because of the color next to it. That has to do with the number of dimming zones and the dimming algorithm. It’s the same for Razer and Apple. Apple has quadruple the number of dimming zones as the Flow that I show in this video, and it has an OS that is more color managed, but poor screen response times. Razer has 1,000 dimming zones, and I guess a good dimming algorithm, but it shouldn’t be any different. Both are lacking a single-zone switch for when you want true 100% brightness uniformity across the entire screen. It’s just much harder to notice on Apple. So if anything, Asus did the right thing here.
@@JoshCravesTech Just turn on and off your HDR. Don't you see the color is washed out when HDR is on? Have you researched why?
1) The reason is that windows SDR contents are incorrectly over saturated and stretching the Windows SDR color to the display’s maximum color range.
Answer: Lacking HDR Color Profile
2) Flow X16 won't even completely use "Diming Zone (which each miniLED will turn on/off) on Multi-zone", and HDR mode support quite good diming zone; however, color profile will be messed up due to the (1).
Answer: Asus didn't even make color profile or software support properly.
Do you get the point now? Moreover, Spyder X Pro only measures normal IPS mode checking (Also won't check mode as miniLED). You need to get the better hardware that support HDR measurement (such as colorchecker; CCDIS).
@@fffffffffffff123 It's washed out because Windows is an sRGB color space and doesn't have a correct HDR implementation. That's not really Asus' fault. Windows is not color managed itself. If you open a program like Adobe Photoshop however, you are now working in a color-managed environment and can take advantage of the 100% DCI-P3 color space. That doesn't have anything to do with HDR. Windows provides an HDR Calibration Tool that at least lets you adjust things for how you'd like to see them in games/movies though, which is a step in the right direction.
The Flow does fully use on/off dimming. When I have a black image on my screen, I don't personally see any light emitting from the display. Plus I don't want crushed blacks so even if it's at 1% dimmed it's still going to look way better than any standard IPS panel.
I get that some might embed an ICC profile for when the panel is in HDR mode, but users will likely override it themselves when they see the Windows HDR calibration tool anyway 🤣 When you're watching movies and viewing content in HDR it looks awesome either way. I'm not really sure what the complaint is about unless you're trying to watch a movie or game at 100% of the creator's color intentions, and if that's the case you probably shouldn't be using a laptop monitor in the first place.
I also understand that Spyder Pro doesn't have a built-in HDR compatible tool but you can still measure brightness and get a decent idea of what you're working with as far as color and gamma.
@Josh Cravey That's the funny part. NO HDR = NO miniLED Diming Zone. Multi-Zone? LOL The Worst implementation of miniLED. DO NOT FAKE YOURSELF, MULTI ZONE IS USING DIMINNG ZONE VERY POORLY. Just bring to your basement and turn off light and check it. Single Zone is brightening as just one peace. It's just 500 nit IPS panel.
@@fffffffffffff123 why are you getting so defensive? You’re losing me a bit. “No HDR = No miniLED dimming zone” is a factually incorrect statement. I don’t understand what you’re trying to say there. Multi-zone dimming in SDR is there and functional. Is it perfect? No, but it looks amazing for when you just want enhanced contrast and brightness with the content you’re viewing. That’s why I say not to use it for color-sensitive work.
Like I said, I don’t personally notice any backlight illumination in dark areas when viewing content in multi-zone. If the screen is off, it has that slightly more gray-black color of the screen compared to the dark black of the bezel, so it looks just like how it should to me. Idk, if 1% brightness in a zone of the screen bothers you that much, then that’s on you!
Razer blade 16 better, much more Breyer display!
Nope, same thing with that one. I have it. If anything it’s a bit inferior because there is no single-zone dimming switch in the software.
@joshcravey9728 I think they have it in the new blade 16 that just came out couple days ago? Can you confirm?
