Great video 👍 I haven't rebuilt an old British engine since the late 70's, and that was a BSA 650 unit twin I had in a chopper way back then. I really dig that guys like you know your way round 'em and share your knowledge!

A J sorry it took so long to get back to you, we were on vacation last week. Everything looks awesome on the head and barrels. Thanks so much for taking this job on. Chuck.

Hello There, That conrod wants throwing in the trash. The conrod will fail at some point. B50's are notorious for the conrod breaking and i personally know of three of them that have let go.
Put in a Carrillo conrod and then you have a good motor. E & V Engineering of Howard City Michigan sells them. They have two options EV Carrillo B44/B50 6" rod Carrillo connecting rod for BSA B44/B50 stock 6" length. And also EV Carrillo B44/B50 6.5" rod Carrillo connecting rod for BSA B44/B50 6.5" length for racing and added top end.
This is a must do when building up a B50 Motor. E & V Engineering do have a website.
I hope the rebuild goes ok and also to check is that the lifters go in the correct way and i think it's the oil holes to the rear of the motor if my memory serves.
You have a good channel here. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

+1 on the conrod, a friends B50 conrod broke and took out the crankcases and cut through a frame tube! The cost of a strong conrod is worth every penny considering the known weakness of the original.

Your dead blow has peyronie's. : ) I can't believe someone used Gorilla glue to reassemble an engine. The good news is it came apart easy. Who did the guy send his motor to? Did he do any due diligence to find out who he was using and if the guy had happy customers.
I pulled the top end off a OIF Triumph 750 last weekend. This was the first time Ive pulled a top end apart. I enjoyed the process, and hopefully I got it back together correctly. I used those Franz and Grubb dry gaskets you recommended. So far not a drop of oil has leaked out (knock on wood.) The reason I took the top end apart was to replace the leaky pushrod tube seals and base gasket. It's so nice to ride this bike and not have a puddle of oil on top of the engine case when I get back.

I am more than happy with your content, I work only on japanese engines at present, just pull apart, replace stuff, and reassemble, pretty simple. My goal was to rebuild a british engine, (probably a 650 twin) but I am increasingly doubtful of my skill level, and mindful of the consequences of messing up. I like how your videos are not super-slick, its like experiencing a real `day in the workshop`. I like that pry tool you use for helping the cases apart - is that something you made yourself? Maybe gorilla glue is named for the applicant that uses it on a motor.

man the thing about brit engines is getting experience thats how youll get good at them! if you know engines you can build one you just have to treat it like what it is and not what its not....and that is just a cheap flat blade screw driver i bent over lol
