    How can he say that materialism is the cause of a failing economy when materialism literally exsists throughout history? It's what drives people to work harder and keeps the economy moving. There are so many things that this guy gets wrong. "The first generation of singapore were relaxing". Uh no, the first generation of modern Singapore are immigrants that are seeking for a better life. Many came with nothing, taking one of the biggest and most dangerous risks of their lives in unknown and undeveloped terrirtory. Only to see the fruits of their hard labour through their grand children.
    So no, I will not give up working hard, having children, saving up for a home just as my previous generations did just because this guy tells me it's "going too far". Owning a home isn't "going too far".

    In Singapore they always reward and encourage people who pursuit extrinsic goals and punish those who pursue intrinsic ones..
    It's always about wealth success, status of oneself of one's family but never about success that brings about good to the nation as a whole or even mankind lol.
    Rags to richess hardly happens why should we fear rags riches to rags? It just means the person was dependent on generational wealth and wasn't competent and deserving in the first place.

    I am worried the term "younger generation". Would the next governing team from the cabinet members to even the prime minister will mainly from the "younger generations?. Is it currently we have now the younger generation as the centre core of the heart beat of Singapore?. The younger generation are fighters and have high expectation of their abilities, following much on their heart beat. But the past generations have make it through all these years on hard work not just the energy from themselves and also the feel of the heart beat from the ground. Yes, we are now in a new era of advancements and higher technologies but the basic and fundamental principles of strong foundations in building this country cannot be dismiss as not necessary. However changes in our exteriors, the interiors must remains the same. Without the heart in good condition, the other parts of the body will not function well. Therefore, be cautioned not to make policies, implementation and execute it without consideration a heart for those in the weaker sectors of our populations. Being practical is good but lack of compassion is of impact towards a peaceful society. Singapore must maintain peace within first and then to spread peace with the world.

      @gjgjgtcgj Pƙed 17 dny +1

      @@limlisa It’s not worth progressing either if some things doesn’t change that will affect people’s lives. The annual leave and sick leave system worked in the past but it’s pretty much been a bullshit system especially in a “fast paced” environment, you want more out of workers but expect less downtime from them and don’t even get started on our country’s union, the best they’ve done is on work discrimination. Lots of workers from the western side are moving back because of the outdated working system, we’re basically just heading towards a work culture like in japan and it’s already quite close.
      You get alot of workers who are at work everyday but barely do any work vs people who are at work having to pick up slack of others resulting to some form of burnout but guess who get’s the promotion? Couple that with the rising cost of living and housing and it just makes the situation worse, and it’s not a problem only this country is having. My point is that upcoming generations whether others like it or not are realising that being about it a 100% at work doesn’t reward you like how it used to be anymore, so people are ditching the rat race even if it means our country’s economy declines
