After nearly 20 years in office, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will hand over the reins of power to his deputy, Lawrence Wong, on May 15, 2024. Lee leaves office with the city state maintaining a reputation as a neutral and independent regional power, as well as a major diplomatic hub. His 51-year-old successor has risen steadily within the ranks of government since his introduction to politics in 2011. Wong is expected to keep Singapore on its current domestic and international policy path.

Do you remember it starts at 3% then increased to 5% then to 7% and in Jan 2023, they intend to increase another 2% to 9% but because of the previous 2019 covid pandemic and the Ukraine war which slow down the economy around the world and at that time, many Singapoean were complaining about having a difficult time so they decided to increase 1% on Jan 2023 and the other 1% on Jan 2024.
So, if they decided to increase again probably in another 5 to 7 years time, it will be 2% increase which is 11% from today's 9%. We'll see.

SG is successful primarily due to our ethnic Chinese majority. Because of geopolitical realities, SG is fond of placing vocal Indian leaders on the frontline to mask our majority ethnic Chinese composition. But when the real crunch comes e.g. Covid pandemic, who do we fall back on? Only the really capable and trustworthy ones step up to the plate like Lawrence Wong, Ong Ye Kung, Chan Chun Sing etc.
On the other hand, consider a hypothetical leadership comprising only the likes of Tharman, Iswaran, Vivian Balakrishnan, Janil Puthucherry, Shanmugam, Pritam Singh. What happens? You get such impressive speeches in Parliament and in the media so that the average SG IQ might seem to hit the roof at 140. But then, in a period of crisis or even in peaceful times, I believe SG collapses irreversibly in 2 weeks' time!
