Hahaha... I'm listening to PF since I was 13... Around 1989... I have listen to them almost every day since, with even quite a couple of years of listening to DSOTM at least (*) every day.
And now, 42, I spend my time (and I run and I run...) watching again and again floyd tunes "reacted"... I see it's a trend, I suspect a bunch of them are surfing to the PF reaction success (it seems to attract a LOT of Floydians), so I feel a bit bad to be in the sheep movement, BUT it's more than I can handle, I MUST watch those moments :).
Yesterday I might have listen (AGAIN) to Comfortably Numb maybe 4 or 5 times on reactions...
Edit: (*) At least, I mean as an album, I often did the segment Meddle-the wall in one row... Many times a day... :)

The wind noise in the middle is created by rubbing a slide over the bass strings feeding it into 2 - Binson Echorec 2 delay units. The seagull screams are from plugging a Stratocaster into a wah pedal backwards ( guitar into OUTPUT, INPUT to Binson delay. pedal cocked in heel position, guitar Volume knob at 10, pickup up selector in middle+bridge position, turning the tone knob to 10 gives you the scream sound, rolling it back down to 0, slowly, provides the laughing effect.)

And you have to love the way that some of the sounds on this song (Rick's "ping" and Gilmour's "seagull") were discovered completely by accident. Well, I know the seagull sound was a complete accident, but I don't know if Rick intended to send his keyboard through a Leslie speaker for the ping, or whether that was a mistake too.
But here's the thing - they didn't go, "Oh no, that sounds terrible - plug it into the right thing" - they said, "Fuck, that sounds good - let's use that!"

I happened to be studying the poem at school, when i first heard the song, and was amazed by the coincidence, and blessing, that brought both of these amazing things into my life at the same time - almost 30 years later, and i'm still finding new things every time i encounter either piece.

Probably Pink Floyd written Echoes watching 2001 A Space Odyssey, Echoes has the same lenght (at second) of Jupiter and Beyond The Infinite (the last part of 2001 ASO), the transitions in the song are perfectly in time with the transitions in the movie. So probably Pink Floyd written the soundtrack of the movie (they asked to Kubrick to compose the soundtrack of the movie, but Kubrick refused, then Kubrick asked to Pink Floyd the permission to use Atom Earth Mother in A Clockwork Orange and they refused).

Dogs are prefered. the debate could be endless, but even The Wall just takes previous forms and modifies or completes them (with a particular Roger Waters twist to the sound).

Gilmour replaced Syd as of the second album Saucerful of Secrets, when Syd lost it during production. As to rebirth, they never died and remained popular throughout their career only getting more and more popular with each album. Meddle is in no way a "rebirth" just a continuation of genius! One can argue that Dark Side is the Album that made them commercial superstars, though.

The song echoes is about the minoan people who lived in pompei that perished when mount Vesuvious in the gulf of naples erupted killing all the people in Pompei. The super volcano that erupted literally turn the inhabitants to ash, and began the 'Dark Ages'.
Roger Water's bassline I think portrays the volcanic ash plumming fron the volcano. David Gilmour's guitar solo potrays the voices as well as the tsunami that engulfed the shores of pompei. Truly a historical piece of art!

You know what I think: there’s a lot of people saying either overtly or covertly that they’re surprised, but also happy that a black guy self professed “hip hop head” can enjoy “white” music like Floyd. And how it brings us together, and everyone can enjoy good music. And I’d agree with all that - I adore music. Obsessed.
So I’d quite like it if Joey did some recommendations for all the huge Pink Floyd fans commenting here about how they love seeing someone’s mind opened, of what he considers to be quintessential hip hop tracks through the years.
And id quite like everyone who professes to be pleased about watching minds being opened, to get stuck into Joey’s recommendations.
Don’t be a dinosaur who thinks only music from your era is good. You’re wrong.
    PS I adore Floyd.

Grandmaster Flash "The Message" springs to mind, not because it's at PF's level of musical composition, but because the lyrics/raps are effing prophetic. There's also a couple of "breakdance" tracks that led into the Age of Hip Hop - Chick Corea's "Elektric City" and Herbie Hancock's "Rockit". (Some have said Herbie invented hip-hop.) Both of them are jazz musicians, and were considered top of the heap in fusion circles.

I grew up listening to this from my parents and listened to rap and hip hop from the neighborhood I grew up in (Acres Homes). So I listen to everything from classic rock, country and some real texas country rap tunes (UGK for life down here in this lone star state). I enjoy music of all eras and genre. To me, being an amateur musician, I believe music is supposed to be transcendent across all race and culture. It doesn't mean that you have to like all styles of music and it doesn't make anyone a racist or bigot if they don't like a specific genre, that is what makes us great is our unique differences. Imagine how boring it would be if we were all the same. Mane!
