  • I really wanted to show you the BEST DIY battery box kit out in the market, using a 200A JK Inverter-BMS, DC circuit breaker and a fantastic quality of material choice and design. At least that was my expectation...
    I was always a big supporter of Gobelpower and was very exciting, that they sent two of the new DIY Kit battery boxes with JK Inverter BMS so quickly. Maybe a bit to quick.
    So, after making this video, it turned out, they did send me two DIY kits from their first batch to test. They just didn't tell me that🤪
    In the next video, I will show you how to build this battery correctly, even though there are still some issues with holes not lining up and forgotten parts not been included in the box.
    Well, this video was already uploaded and they have to suck it up for now. I'm sure they will improve and also now have a checklist so nothing will be forgotten any more. And a manual... gosh, how good would that DIY Kit be with instructions how to build it.
    Gobelpower DIY Kit. It is a DIY project, so...

    On a positive note: you can't accuse Gobelpower of _influencer bias_ by sending you perfect equipment and dumping bodgebuilt rubbish onto the rest of us. And nobody can accuse you of being singled out for special treatment.
    So that deserves a couple of tadpoles if not a whole frog.

  • @Knightliner69
    @Knightliner69 Před 22 dny +8

    Seems to me that Gobelpower only changed the Front- and the BMS-Mounting panels but did not test at all if all cables etc fit together! Thats indeed is bummer! That is low quality in product design.
    Regarding the PCBs. The older Boxes never had PCB. The steel bars are cable trays only.
    The squishy caps are to cover the Plus- and Minus pole of the pack.
    Flexible Busbars did come without holes for the BMS cables. Drilling and threading them with M3 holes is easy and works perfectly.
    So it‘s more like a real „DIY kit“ and not a ready made kit just to assemble. 😂
    I‘m pretty sure we will see a V2 Version of this kit after your review and I‘m sure it will come with a proper manual and all features you will request!
    Cheers Jens

    Seems like a similar experience to the original Seplos Mason box, lots of issues in the early versions which eventually got sorted
    It's still slightly shocking that Gobel didn't look through the complaints about competing battery boxes and fix the issues. It's like they have to reinvent the wheel every time
    Thanks Andy for taking an early look at the box and giving good feedback to Gobel. It's great having people like you to act as a bridge between the customers and manufacturers

    If you still have the Pre-Built Gobel setup in the exact same (in theory) case, do you think you could do a side by side comparison of both chassis' and setups(ie measurements etc.)?

    Hello Andy,
    no manual seems to be the chinese standart for new products. 😉
    The EEL V4 has also a full backplate. All parts do line up perfect.
    Their cables are easy to bend, because they are thinner - much to thin for my taste.
    The EEL flexible cellbridges have two M3 threads.
    I have made a lot photos of the EEL V4 during build. If you like, i can send them to you.

      Thanks for sharing. Yeah, the bridge between cell 8 and 9 has two balance cables connected when using Pace or JK BMS.

What would be fantastic is to hear from you about regulations and certifications needed to use these China boxes in Australia completely Off Grid. I am in country NSW and very very close to buying one but the legalities are holding me back. I know the EVE cells at least have the IEC62619 certificate but the Gobal products only have full IEC62619 cert on the Premium fully assembled model and not on the Standard or DIY model's. It would be really nice to know what you can share on this. Cheers

    I purchased 2 DIY boxes with their Pace Bms a little while back, and at least i got non flexible busbars with the holes for the Bms and the active balancer pre drilled.
    No manual for me either, but there are some documents on their portal for the Bms to battery connection at least.
    They did have some creative cabeling on my boxes as well, but it worked ok when i got them to explain how it was suposed to be connected 🙂
    I just managed to get my old cells into the box, by changing some of them for some spare cells ( yes, not ideal).
    They had managed to miss sending me the external battery cables that was in my offer, as well as some of the screws. They imidiately sent me the cables when I noted they were missing, but I am still missing screws 😄.
    Another item that was not perfect wasthat the heltec/Neey active balancer that I purchased with the the boxes did not have any proper brackets for fastening them.
    The batteries does seem to work just fine but it was not quite the easy DIY experience I had hoped for.
    The support from my sales contact on the other hand was excellent!
    Every time I had a question she checked the answer internally and got back to me quickly.
    I did also sent them feedback on the missing manual, and that their battery box was a bit more DIY than was ideal for a DIY kit. 🙂

    @SunInLithium Před 21 dnem

    I just recently put together 6 gobel diy kits. With the pace bms.
    You have the main positive on the wrong side.
    And it works best with the top wire on the breaker to loop towards the front panel. And the to the terminals.
    Also the rubber covers are for the main positive and negative, of the cells.
    The newer 280 cells that test over 310 ah are getting thinner every day. I needed to stack up close to 10mm of pcb board just to make the cells contact. The pressure plate. So maybe the modified the newer kits to make up for that.
    I do wish they would use pcb balance leads. Or at least trim the excess wire. And of course in this case add bigger terminals to fit over the 6mm bolt.
    I im currently ordereding 8 jk kits and cells.
    I've also recommend they use adhesive pcb board on the bottom sheet as it seems it could slide off to the side.
    Keep up the great work.
    Cheers Elias

      The pace bms seems to be good, so fare. It has a couple of quirks to do with the optional internal heater.
      It will only turn on if the battery is charging, and it will only charge if it is warm enough. So, if the battery falls below low temp charging disconnect, it will need to be warmed up with an external heat source. Also, there is no bluetooth app, and the soc, Volts, and amps are not readily available on the display.

  • @angyp74
    @angyp74 Před 21 dnem

    I have an EEL battery box with the JK and the cabling between the BMS and the battery is also a nightmare. At least your cabling looks like it has some girth. I have 2x10mm2 between the battery and BMS and BMS and negative terminal. The positive is 20mm2 to the breaker and the positive terminal but it's a tight and tortured path. What happened to custom-made flexible busbars. Also, the EEL box has a solid bottom plate.

I had to drill holes in the rails to line up with the holes at the end as the compression plate was not in the correct place. Your rails seem to be shorter than mine. I have to correct you after 8 minutes of this video. I almost never look at the displays of my 4 EEL boxes when communication with the main system is established. It's ok that you need a laptop for installation. After that I no longer need a display, even though it's nice to have one to press and enjoy.

      Yes, correct. As I said, it's just a nice to have feature but not really necessary.

    At 16:20 ... could this box be for a smaller battery? Maybe 220 or 230 AH cells?

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  Před 14 dny

      All prismatic cells from 280-320Ah have the same dimensions.
      230Ah cells are a lot smaller already, they would not fit in this box without a massive plywood base.

  • @lerrypage
    @lerrypage Před 21 dnem

    Kleiner Tipp: Ich würde die Zellen andersrum rein stellen, dann geht es sich mir den dickeren Kabeln auch besser aus und in die Zellverbinder Löcher bohren und ein Gewinde rein schneiden für die BMS Kabel, das ist in kurzer Zeit zu machen.

    Are the fiber plates included in the kit? just try skiping the plates between the batteries and see if it fits might solve most off the problems, we never used to have plates between the batteries, mine is fine with out makes sense to have them next to steal structure, should not be needed between batteries

    • @TheRonskiman
      @TheRonskiman Před 22 dny

      I was reading a thread on DIY solar forum today, about a house that burned down, general consensus seems to be a direct short between two cells as there was no fibre insulation plates between the cells - it wasn't a thing when he built the batteries 3 years ago. His was fine also, until the day it wasn't. Yes the plates are included in the kit.

    The first thought that comes to my mind (since it's going to be DiY!) is to throw away the yellow epoxy sheets and use much thinner sheets instead. This way you will gain the missing millimeters!
    Who told these have to be original sheets? :)))

    • @repairman2be250

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  Před 21 dnem

      That won't make up for the difference. I also tried without any epoxy in between and hardly made any difference. The just need to add some long holes on the top rail to support different compression stages.

      @@OffGridGarageAustralia Strange, I thought these resin sheets were about a millimeter thick.
      So in these circumstances, all that is left is a precise file and longitudinal sawing of the long holes. So that they become "long enough". I hope the brace is long enough. :)))))

    There is no manual cause they are expecting that you will make a proper video and therefore they think they do not have to spend the money & time for a proper manual.

    there is not enough space between the terminals and the case on cell 8/9, they are way to close to the case i think.
    i mean, look at that 15:34 , with busbars installed they are near TOUCHing the CASE !!
    question: arent they ashamed to send you such a garbage? i really want to build a diy battery, but when i see the boxes .... no way, it's a serious savety issue to have something working at home.
    maybe they really do not want to sell them seriously, because build boxes are more expensive, and they can earn more money.
    but, i rather would buy from PYTES

    The manufacturer should tell you what Size AH batteries is needed. Your 300 plus AH batteries are too large.
