  • Nome, Alaska is a remote bush village on the shores of the Bering Sea. In this video we are taking a tour from the Mayor Richard Beneville and Nome Discovery Tours. We also take our rented Jeep from Dredge No. 7 Inn for drive around town to show you some of the sights. A trip to a unique destination is not complete without sharing some prices from the grocery store. Before our evening activities Ben make a quick fishing stop to catch some pink salmon.

Sweet Richard. I hope wherever he is, he’s happy and joyful just as he was here on earth. May he Rest In Peace. Hello Central! (I lived there for a long time and knew Richard for a few years back in the 90’s. He was such a joy!)
ALSO, THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME! Thank you so much for taking me back! I appreciate it!

Love you guys my name is John and I'm a 37 yrs old white male from Philadelphia, pa but I love Alaska because of the untouched nature and wilderness out there I'm a city guy in reality but my heart is a country and mountain terrain type of guy! So keep making videos because I'm seriously planning on moving soon enough far away from this city life

a woman that I work with just told me that she lived in Nome many years ago. So that's why I am watching this very informative video. After seeing the devastation of the Japan tsunamis and thinking about moving to Alaska someday, I am very shy about living on any coastline where there may be offshore earthquakes and an imminent tsunami. Does a coastal town like Nome have a tsunami warning system at all? I know there are only 3 roads apparently that access the city, does anyone there have an escape plan as to how they would get to much higher ground in just 10-15 minutes to escape the 50-100 foot waves that would come ashore??

Time for an intervention. Ben really needs AA-Anglers Anonymous.
I was surprised to see they finally paved Main Street & there are some trees in Nome. So much of Alaska's economy depends on oil revenue. When I left for the lower 48, oil prices were around $10 a barrel. Everyone was so cautious with their spending. Nice to see Alaska is booming again. Thanks for the tour. 👍🏻

With prices like that I now understand why almost everyone hunts, fishes and grows whatever veg will grow in the short summer. At least it costs nothing to keep the freezer cold in winter, put in an outside building and turn it off when the temp drops below -20 c.

Now why does it not surprise me that the indigenous folks were not given citizenship ( second class citizens, couldn’t vote.... sound familiar) ) when the US purchased Alaska from Russia.. grateful he mentioned it- it’s important to know the history...
