I still use a machete and hatchet depending on the job sometimes with the help of a hydraulic press. Although I have since moved on to the Estwing Rigger's Axe as my favorite splitting tool. It is a very thin blade hatchet with a hammer on the opposite site. I also use it to clean radiator ends using another hammer. Works amazingly well. I also cut the ends off of motors up to 50hp so far this way as I don't like the mess/dust a grinder or reciprocal saw makes.
Oh that’s awesome, I’ll have to look into one of those.
I don’t like the copper dust either, plus it’s incredibly dangerous to our lungs.
Thank you for watching.
🪓 nice job, but Ian Matthew's would recommend a bigger Hommer 😂
I absolutely need a bigger hammer. That’s a 2lb, but I’m thinking a 3lb would be perfect. Thank you buddy.
3 or 4 lb sledge/flat end hammer!!!
@@ScrapFatherScrapSon heck yeah buddy! That would be perfect.
I think I will have to get a hatchet, that worked really well.
It really did work great. Thank you for watching.
works great , probably a lot easier on your hands as well
Yes it definitely is! Thank you for watching buddy.
Awesome, I am going to have to try that. That seems to help speed things up. Stay safe my friend and see you on the next video. May God bless you and bestow lots of happiness to you and your family.
You will love it. I know I do.
Thank you so much for that prayer, I greatly appreciate it brother.
Thank you for all your support.
Have a great week and God bless you abundantly.
Excellent video that hatchet is very good and I think I will give it a try thank you for sharing this very enjoyable video with us six stars brother
I think you’ll be really happy with using one. Thank you brother.
I was wondering about how an axe would perform. Thanks for finding out for me!
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching.
its time i found an axe for my transformers great work
You will love it. Thank you for watching, Ian.

That's awesome! I never thought about using a hatchet!
Works so well! Thank you for watching
Good vid, keep doing it
Thank you!
@scrapitjc he is not using an ax 😂😂😂
You are at the least min favorit channel to watch. You should very much make some longer videos also, like a scrap marathon where u just take stuff apart and talk. You got the voice, that i personally could listen to for hours, just like EwasteBen. LOVE YOUR CONTENT, All with love from Denmark 🎉
Thank you so much for your comment.
I might have to do some longer videos moving forward. Thanks again!
You should watch the live vids. Educational, informative, and comical
@@TB-Metals they are definitely something 🤣🤣
You could do long videos like Canadian Treasure Hunter does. You don't have to talk the whole time.@@scrapitall200
Thank you, I appreciate that. I definitely enjoy watching Canadian Treasure Hunter, he scraps so much stuff.
A wood maul and a sledge hammer might be an interesting adventure.
That’s not a bad idea my friend. I think you’ve got yourself a great idea for a video for your channel.
As always, I appreciate you watching.
@@scrapitall200 Welcome.
i mounted a axe head to my 12 ton press it works great no pounding does a great job on big trans as well.

Great method, machete/hatchet is the best way to save time when scrapping transformers. Have a good day bro 👍
I absolutely agree!
Thank you and you too have a great day!
Good day Yes I thought of that awhile ago, Nice sharp edge. We have old axe we used for fire wood , it is all starting to bend over from hammering
I used meat cleaver & it nicked , but we have on-line auction & cleaver went $14.00 , so I am going to sharpen it & sent it
to auction
Thanks
Good to see you buddy.
Yeah definitely worth sharpening and sell off.

The best use of a Harbor Fright hatchet have seen
Plus, it was a gift from Nice junk. Thank you for watching another video.
Great video, Transformers ❤❤
Thank you, I appreciate that.
thanks for another great video. I use a piece of ply wood under the transformer to protect the blade i use.

Hi SIA!!! nice hint with the ice pick. cool video, see u in the next one, have a great time!
Hi! Thank you, I use the ice pick quite often.
Thank you my friend. Take care and have a wonderful week.
WOW! Thank you so much sir!!! This saves so much wire clipping and struggling. The hatchet is key to these! Way better than grinding them too!!
You’re welcome!
The hatchet is definitely the way to go.
Thank you for watching
Nice idea and seems to work well but it may be easier to handle a wedge used for splitting logs and a small hammer
Definitely worth a try, thanks for the idea!
Love this time saving idea!
Awesome! Me too.
Thank you for watching
I use a large thick piece of aluminum under what I'm splitting and that seems to save the blade from over hammering while not dampening the blows.
Ooohhh that’s a great idea, thank you so much.
😮 got me thinking about the bigger ones vs a log splitter.
I’m working on that very thing. Just need to fix the splitter I have in mind. Should work great!

I take it the blade is somewhat sharp to wedge between the metal plates. I’ll sharpen up my old hatchet I use to bust things open like a hammer and give it a try.👍
Right on buddy!
Thank you for watching
The machete works great! But the Hatchett works as a wedge also. If you look back, I made a video mentioning you using a Hatchett because I didn't have a machete!! Great video and much better payout now than Taking them in as is !
I remember that video. If I remember correctly it was an aluminum transformer from a battery charger.

I would have to go back and watch the video!! Awesome content and thanks for the prayers always
@@scrappingonthefly77 you’re welcome brother!
Speaking of bumper jack handles, did you know you can change a tire with a bumper jack and handle? When I was young me, my wife, my friend and his girlfriend went to the " noon to moon jam" in Hugo. Live music at a camper park with a swimming pond from 12 to midnight. We woke up to a flat tire to the Dodge van. My friend said, no problem. We took the tire off, then on the engine end of the van we used the heel of the bumper jack to break the beads, liberated a tube from the swimming hole, rolled the tire int town and found a free air hose and made repair. To completely remove a tire you use bumper jack, pry tire off making sure the opposite side is in the middle of the rim, and tap it around with any hammer. Who would have thought a bumper jack and handle would remove a tire from a rim? It does!
Oh wow, that’s cool. I would’ve never thought of that. Thank you.
Good one
Thank you!
Great video my friend
Thanks buddy
Great video!!! I have been wanting to try the machete, but the hatchet would be easier. Excellent advice.

Nice my machete has broken twice now I have to get a hatchet
Oh really? Mine is still going strong. Which brand machete did you have?
I do believe the hatchet is going to be far more durable than a machete.
Thank you for watching!
How well does the hatchet work on field coils? Great video! Im really learning a lot of new, labor saving tips from your videos. Thank you and GOD BLESS YOU!

Awesome, thank you for subscribing and I’m happy you enjoyed the video.
When im bored I find throwing those around the shop to loosen up a but and then delaminating the steel parts. Take out some pent up aggression
That’s definitely one way to do it 😆
Thank you for watching.

@@woodworkingandepoxy643 thank you so much, I appreciate that.
I use a machete but I think I will try one. I've split my motors with my machete
Awesome! I’ve split many motors and transformers with my machete. I haven’t tired the hatchet yet on motors. Thank you for watching
The right tool for the job. I like to save my machetes for machete things. My old hatchet will do the job.
Machete has been amazing, but I definitely like the durability of the hatchet. Thank you for watching.
You cad do it like that but I use the vise and a sawzall and shave the wire off one side then while it's still clamped in the vise pry wire out with a flat screwdriver or bumper jack handle. I actually walked out to my shop to get the proper name of the new blades I am using. I was using "Fire and rescue " blades but they have these new ones, Spyder, not only do they have teeth on top and bottom, the curve even has teeth. You know how a new blade cuts thru steel like a hot knife thru butter, well these spyder blades will keep on cutting after the hot knife thru butter stage fades, like three weeks after. I use my sawzall to cut the car tire beads so I don't have such a hard time getting tires off the rims for #1 steel, a Spyder blade will cut 8-10 tires off the rims, tire bead wire is spring steel, it's especially tough. Hatchets work good cutting the metal sides off window a/c's and those big home heating units, lots faster then Phillips screwdriver and 1/4 drive weather, a speaker magnet on a rope, you can drag it around to get up all the 1/4 head screws up so they won't get in your riding mower tires!
Sounds like really nice blades
Thank you for watching
Use it on a hardwood block- no chance of damaging the sharp edge then.
Wonder how long the wood will last? Nice idea, thank you.
Good video, do you think the hatchet would work on electric motors and compresser motors. Instead of using a grinder to cut the end of the copper off.
Thank you!
I’ve used a machete many times to cut motors in half, works great.
I personally haven’t used the hatchet on a motor yet. I bet it would work as long as they aren’t too large.
Thank you for watching
i think i mentioned an axe.. as no machette. lol
I got what you were saying. lol
use a heat gun. expands the metal..then use a chisel.if no hatcket/ axe.

I had complete faith in the idea, haha. Was the tape on the fine copper problematic ant any point?
Thanks brother.
No not really, some every now and then can be but for the most part it comes off easily.
@scrapitall200 . That's good to now as I usually stripped them by hand and then removed the tape as I have had that issue with the fine copper strands sticking to the tape.
