There you go, doing your magic again! I just dragged tiles out if my storage shed to create alcohol ink coaster, now I am going to pour paint on them. I just did a class with 9-14 year olds with pour paint, they had so much fun!
Thats awesome Cindy ! I do love how the pours come out on the tile surface . How awesome that you already have a stash !! Have fun :)
@@ShariReplogle I've noticed that there are a lot have questions that haven't been answered. I hope that you are ok 😁
Thanks so much, Shari, for the very informative lesson. That looks very fun and I love the idea of doing coasters. I always learn something when I watch your videos - always! Unfortunately, I live very near a Home Depot, so I can tell I'll be heading over there this weekend for a box of tiles. That means that this weekend, I may have to work on coasters instead of cleaning my office. Oh, the sacrifices we make!
That's awesome Carol ! I could get into a whole lot of trouble living close to a Home Depot . You can get the Floetrol there as well :) Doesn't your office need a new set of coasters ? Priorities ! Have fun !!!!
I really love the boldness of the second set of coasters! Someone asked about where to find the tiles. I've gotten them at Lowes in the clearance section at times. I buy them without knowing exactly when I'll use them if they are a good deal lol.
Beautiful
This is so amazing and you are a terrific teacher. I am teaching paint pouring to a class of Sr. Citizens next month and I will use your instruction, for sure!
I just discovered you and your coasters are very cool!
Thank you so much Carla I hope you give them a go :)
Thank you 🙏
Hi! Love the video tutorial. I'm wondering about what kind of resin you use for finishing them? Does it need to be heat resistant or just the regular art type? You mentioned a video showing how you do the resin, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I look forward to hearing back from you.
Really nice 👍👌
Beautiful creations!!! I can't wait to get started on my own. A few quick questions before I set off on my own.
1. After four or so days when the paint has dried on the tiles, will there be a drip effect on the edges or does the smoothing you do throughout the process help with that issue?
2. After your paint has dried and you now pour the resin, how long do you wait for the resin to dry?
3. Would using Gesso prior to pouring help in any way?
❤
Bottom right side..( 17:15 ) ........ it looks like you are looking out of a log circle and seeing outside. (Until it stretched out and settled )
Hi Shari, I'm a little late to the party here, but I hope you are still answering questions. Can these be sealed with MinWax instead of resin? I haven't tried to do anything with resin, and although it's very attractive, I'm afraid it will be just one more thing for me to mess up. :)
Love your work! Could you please explain why you add glue and the silicone?
Hi Christina! I don't add silicone so much any more to my pours , but it does help in creating lots of cells in the paint :)
Shari, do you use a spray resin, or pour it like the paint?
Beautiful colours in the blue my fave colour.....how do you mix the resin and can you purchase at hardware store....thanks Donna Remeika
Does the paint and resin peel off the ceramic tiles?
Thank you for the tile video. How do you seal the coasters? I have tried a spray but when they dry and I put a hot cup on the tile it sticks. How do you seal your tiles?
lCarol Jean Jean takes about a month for them to cure after any seal.
What do you put on top. Sealer? Did you used a primer first? Then paint and was there any sealer or resin to finish ? Spray. Just starting? Please thx
Once the coating of resin is dry, are they suitable to use in a bath or shower enclosure? Or a backsplash?
Does anyone know the answer to this question?
I'm not quite sure what you asking are you asking can you use them in the shower like maybe to put ur shampoo are something if so I would say yes I'm not a professional I'm just a normal person trying to help you out . Now if you are asking like can you do a resin pour on a bunch of them and then actually put them in as a backsplash I would guess yes I mean it's what it's meant for we just paint them and put resin on them which just keeps it protected I would be careful with the glue and grout while doing so though I hope I at least helped you a little being nobody exspecially the 1 who made the video never answered your question hun
Thank you!
Great tutorial, what resin did you use to seal the tiles and does the resin do well with hot drinks; is there any marks left on the tile
I'd like to know this too
She said in another comment Art Resin. I bought it off of Amazon and it cost me$30. 4 ounces. Not very much for the price.
This was a great video, thank you so much! Def Sub to your page!
If the tile has a gloss finish, I’m wondering about the longevity of acrylic, silicone and the oil based Floetrol adhering to the toothless surface...?
Bluuuuuuueee
Which type of colour you use ...Plz mention
What do you seal it with at the end?
Hi Shari my first time on your channel can you use a spray sealer on the tiles? Have U ever used alcohol inks on the tiles? Thanks Terri
Hi Shari, so inspiring. I'm going to home depot tomorrow. What epoxy resin do you use?
Hi Vicki ! For these tiles I used Art Resin :)
Where do you get art resin and where do you the backings for the tiles? Which are cork?
2 part flotril to 1 part paint or ...?
please tell the types of uses, because i will try to sell for my business
Hi Shari could you please share the colors you used.thanks Terri
If I don't use silicone do I still need to torch
Jen torching isn’t 100% necessary but it does help get rid of bubbles in the paint even when you don’t use silicone.
Name the clors plz..which clrs r u using
What's the glue for?
What does the glue do?
Hi Shari! When I click on the link to supplies used it takes me to a page that says, “There’s nothing here!”
Oh gosh you are very correct ! I have fixed it now , so sorry about that . The link should take you directly to Friday's post with the supplies now :)
Shari Replogle thank you! Thanks so much for all you do. :)
How do you keep the paint from separating from the tile once it's dry since the paint doesn't absorb into the surface. Do you prep the tile in anyway before or does putting resin on afterward make it permanent? I have been wanting to make some of these to sell but I don't want to sell something that wont last and I have heard some people say the paint comes off when they try to clean the tile after it dries.
i had that problem . I poured a set of 4 an the paint peeled off the tile as I was cleaning them. Very frustrating because of the time/effort/supplies that I used.
Better to buy unglazed tiles maybe. Not sure. I’m about to try this with unglazed tiles so I’ll let you know once they dry
What was the results?
Can I use Elmers Glue-All instead of the glue that you used?
Hi Shari, I did my first pour last night. So much fun. How long does it take the tiles to dry?
Hi Vicki ! It takes a few days for them to completely dry. It always depends on the size but for the 4x4 tiles I would leave them alone for at least 3-4 days before I sealed them . I usually do a bunch one week and make a day about a week later to resin them all. Have fun !
Thanks, I am hooked on this technique!
What kind of torch do you use?
a white one
Why add glue?
You don’t need to rough up the surface first?
Hi Roberta If you are applying a resin finish them then no I do not rough up the surface beforehand :)
Thanks for getting back to me. Would be fun to make for family and friends for Christmas.
Why add glue? What purpose does it serve?
Helps with cells
Instead of tile have you used flat cork to make coasters? Use acrylic paints not alcohol inks to decorate or pour a pattern.
How much do you charge for your costers?.
Great question
Do you ever you put resin in with your paints so you don't have to seal it
Carrie Resin doesn’t mix well with paint mixed with pouring medium and other additives. It doesn’t cure well I should say.
How do you clean the silicone off the tiles without taking the paint off?
HI Loretta I usually let them dry for at least a week and then soak up any silicone that may be on the surface with baby powder.
Very disappointed you didn’t include the resining.
crybaby
Where do you get your tiles?
Hi Lona , I get them at Home Depot or Lowes in boxes of 100.
where do you get the cork from ?
Hi Kadir I didn't put that on the supply list on the blog did I . I am so sorry about that. They sell it by the sheet and by the 4 " square which is perfect for these at Hobby Lobby and if you don't have one near you you can probably get it on there online store hobbylobby.com. They also sell it on Amazon :) Hope this helps !
How to you apply the cork to the bottom??
Sorry, this is just a hot mess. Why bother with all the colors if you end up with a blue/green muddy yuck?
Beautiful
