  • Wayne Brady can sing, act, dance, and he’s a helluva impressionist. He’s one of the nice guys in the industry who typically flies under the radar and is relatively unproblematic. But away from the glitz and glamour, the Let’s Make a Deal host has faced some personal struggles that have led him down the path to accepting his pansexuality.

I can understand Brady's situation. I was raised with my great grandma. She was born in the 20s. She didn't play that ghetto stuff. She taught me etiquette. No elbows on the table. How to properly cut a piece of meat. To speak in an educated way. She hated the word AIN'T. We had to dress proper when we were with her. To be clean, neat and presentable in public as well as the household. I later realized that she grew up in a time where black people were considered uneducated, having no class, no ambition , drive or goals.. "the typical stereotype".. I wasn't teased at school but surprisingly by some of my own family members for "talking white". One Christmas they even wrote white girl on my presents instead of my name. That bothered me so bad. So i started to be a lil more " hood". But ultimately i realized the lessons she was teaching me and i teach my son to be the same way. You can be black, educated and have a "properness" about yourself. Without feeling like a "sellout"... And i didnt become the "sterotypical black female " and i have her to thank. I miss her everyday. RIP Grandma Willie Beatrice ❤

Felt this. My grandparents were born in 1917 and 1927. Paternal and maternal grandparents were really strict with how we carried ourselves. Being told I thought I was better than others because of how I spoke or dress really messed me up. I just wanted my people to accept me too. Hopefully this changes and we can accept that black comes in different shades and sizes just like any other race.

A SAD FACT: if we’re honest, most of us can recall a time when someone who looked like us made our lives a living hell or we know someone who experienced it. It could be because of how you dressed, how you spoke, where you lived, type of music you liked, made good grades, who you were friends with etc.
We see it today with name calling based on political or religious beliefs, morals….you name it.
Sadly, being Black comes with a measuring stick. I hope Wayne finds the peace he’s been search of since he was a little boy. I’ve always admired his raw talent 🙌🏾

I attended the same high school Wayne Brady graduated from in Orlando, Florida. I am twenty years younger than him; but, many things had NOT changed in that community. It is called Dr. Phillips High School and its performing arts magnets are particularly prestigious. Tangelo Park is an extremely low-income, predominantly Black neighborhood and Dr Phillips is upper middle class/wealthy. The two neighborhoods are very close to one another. Being Black in that environment when the white students are racist as hell and the Black students are judgemental if you dress and speak differently, caused me to feel disconnected from everyone. Wayne sometimes returned to talk to the students in the Theatre Magnet but as successful and interesting as he seemed, I perceived a Sadness in him. After watching this, I feel my intuition sensing his melancholy was not wrong, after all. 🥀

I can relate with Wayne with the "talking and acting white" part because I was raised by my parents to speak articulate and not "ghetto" and I was called white by most black kids, including some of my cousins and my aunts and uncles would put them in their place and made them apologize to me. Even my teachers tell my parents they can understand what I was saying without saying "huh?!". Even my parents told me never to change who I am to impress others, it takes a real person to accept you for who you are. At least now Wayne can live his truth and the Chapelle skit with him in it was funny, still is!

Colorism traumatizes another one!! Wayne Brady is a very good looking man. Thinking that Black people have to talk a certain way, or act a certain way to really be Black is just another thing that was given to us to divide us. Black people are divers, and cannot be reduced to the thought that we all have to look the same, act the same and speak the same to be Black. Funny, when non-black people tell us, or treat us as Black people like we are all the same, and lump us altogether, we get mad, we get upset. How dare they do that to us. But then we turn around and do the exact same thing to ourselves. Colorism and this You Ain’t Black Enough Bullsh*t hurts people deeply and has got to STOP!!!!

Hip-Hop would be a charred ruin. Black stand-ups would be forced to carry exorbitant amounts of fire insurance.

I think he needs a lot of therapy to address the many painful experiences in his life that have defined him. Doesn’t look like he dealt with any of his issues. He went from one traumatic experience to another starting with his parents, then bullying, then self hate, and purposely choosing non black women. However a lot of people go through these issues and don’t change their sexuality. I think that’s a whole separate issue. If he’s coming out as pansexual tells me he’s searching for something deeply missing in his life so he’s open to everything to try to fill that void.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being pansexual.
Perhaps you need therapy to address your judgemental heart and promote hate! Address why you think it is any of your business who he or anyone else loves! The fact that he shared his life with you doesn't equate to permitting you to attack his choices… it is none of your business! Take the Flint out of your eye!!

Their will hopefully be a day when men will stop saying “I was picked on that’s why I don’t date my own kind “ and just say “other races of women were my pipeline to being with the men I always wanted “ I won’t hold you I always liked Wayne Brady and always knew he was “sweet” I think we all been knew 🤷🏾‍♀️🤣

People say sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me, but that is not true, he is still hurt about words spoken to him in his childhood. My grandmother helped me to not care what people think when I came home from school at around 8 and I told my grandmother that the kids in school were talking about me, she said, so what, they talked about Jesus, and he was perfect so they will talk about you too. I got over it that day. Haven't cared since then, what people say about me. It is because of my grandmother that my skin is so thick.

I'm confused. How can a person who acknowledges self-hate regarding their black features and skin tone find offense when others say they're "not black enough"? When you dislike the association with blackness to the point of intentionally aligning yourself with other races, adopting their behaviors, and procreate with them (so your kids adopt their features and skin tone), isn't that trying to separate yourself from the black race?
    Edited for clarification:
    i.e.
If I brand myself as someone that wears blue as my signature color. As a result, I'm well known for wearing blue. People will joke and make remarks related to me wearing blue all the time. Why would I get mad or offended about people pointing out that I'm always wearing blue when I consciously made the decision to brand myself as the lady in blue?? Instead of taking offense to it, I'd own my choice and stand by it.

Yes. Hence why many blk ppl want lighter skinned children to avoid the blk/brown effect on one’s life.

Good for you, Wayne; now that I am 50, I realize time is all too short. As I am trying to discover myself in this life a half-century old, I am always impressed with others who embrace who they are and realize that you may need help in that journey. Brother I hope all your future days forever be better than your last...That goes for all who are reading this as well. Thank you for this creation, I truly enjoyed the effort put forth to shine the light on someone I always found talented.

I had no idea he experienced such a traumatic childhood of being isolated and shunned. NOW I understand why the jokes used to offend him as an adult. They were triggers. 😔

Wayne Brady has made me laugh with his wit and smile with his joyousness. His television persona makes him seem like the kind of person you wished lived next door. I never imagined he had so many heartbreaks and struggles, like most of us do, because he always seemed so genuinely care-free and happy.
Wayne Brady has brought joy to so many people with his talent, the least we can do for him is support his feelings and keep loving him the way we always have. And whomever he wants to care for and love is none of anyone's business but his own. He deserves to be happy just like anyone else does.

His announcement reminds me of when The Brat did hers. I was like, I thought we knew that already? Honestly, concerning Wayne, I was never checking for him like that to really care either way about his sexuality. I just like him for him and wasn't into his personal life to ever check to see who was he dating or if he had kids. But I hope he feels better now that he told people. I respect him for living his truth. But, quiet as its kept....Everyone I know already thought he might be gay so he good with people I know as far as the announcement is concerned. 🤷🏿‍♀️👍🏿
