  • Lisa Wright was adopted as an infant and had no idea who her biological mother was growing up in California. At 54, she took a DNA test, and the results changed her life. Her birth mother turned out to be an actress named Lynne Moody who she watched growing up on TV. Lynne starred in the popular 1970’s show “That’s My Mama,” “ER,” and “Roots.”

I teared up watching this. This story really hit close to home. I was 16 y/o when I got pregnant...a junior in high school. Some of my immediate family made such a mockery out of me and made my pregnancy a living nightmare. It was one of the worst times of my life. Long story short, I almost went through a similar situation and... I just couldn't go through with it. I remember giving birth to my daughter and...she went way (w/ an adoption agency worker)... I went the other way. I was so broken and depressed. After school... I would slide to the agency to see her, to hold her, to feed her. I would just cry. The worker said to me, " You want her"? I said, " Yes"! Next thing I know, I was walking out with my baby!!! Like the mom in the video... I never had any other children...that situation was so stressful, sad and depressing. I couldn't imagine having a child "out here in the world"... while having others in the home. I wouldn't have seemed fair. I love my one and only child to pieces... she's my pride and joy!!! She's now a successful and intelligent beautiful woman... who's a mom-to-be Jan. 2023. I'm excited about becoming a "GiGi"!!!

I’m adopted too. My biological Mother put me up for adoption and changed her mind. She came back to see if she could get me. It was too late. I was gone. My Mother raised me the same way saying that my birth mother loved me, but couldn’t take care of me. I was never mad because I understood.
My birth Mother told my birth Father that she had a miscarriage while he was in the military.
When I was 24 I meant both of them.. My birth Father couldn’t believe it. He didn’t even know I existed. His sister kept telling him to get a paternity test until she saw pictures of me. I look exactly like him.. His sister was crying on the phone when she spoke to me. She said, “I told him to get a paternity test, but Oh my God you look just like him.” He doesn’t need to have a test. We also have a lot of the same mannerisms. I look like he had me by himself. I really could go on and on, but I’ll stop here. :)

@Evered Abraham I don't understand your criticism. Moms don't really have the right to look for a child after they have signed away their own rights. Financial success or celebrity status are the most shallow and selfish of reasons to disrupt the life of a child. It looks to me that everyone tried to put this baby girl first and foremost at the head of this whole process. In the 1960s, there were very real barriers for girls and women who had children and family, and who continued to aspire to higher vocations for financial or creative reasons. I was a baby then, I can't judge. God bless the strong women who live and speak today, and do not judge.

@@pashalynn4102 she did the right thing, Lisa grew up in a loving home that fulfilled her life. She wasn’t even interested in finding her birth mother, until the loss of her mother. It was meant for her to find her birth mother now, so they could get to know each other and catch up with her family history & meet her other kinfolk too. Not the time for bitterness, time for rejoicing that they are finally reunited. My sister-in-law just reunited this year with her daughter who she put up for adoption. Her daughter was searching for her for years , a relative saw her on social media. My sister-in-law was guilt driven for the past thirty years about giving her up for adoption and had gone through alot of depression bouts. Her mother made her give up her daughter for adoption, that’s what some parents did back then. Now we are so happy for her and she is planning to see her and the grandchildren in Mississippi. So true. Thats why my feelings about adoptions are mixed. Some times you really don’t know who you are handing your child over too. I know someone who is a foster/adoptive mom.. she has two children right now that were in the process of being adopted by a couple…. They were staying with her for a while like a year or so I believe… then they were supposed to be adopted… well, now they are back after only about 2/3 months of staying with what was supposed to be their new family. Guess why….. ok I’ll tell you… the husband beat the little boy really bad that his body was bruised up. So now they are back to where they started. Some ppl in this world do not deserve to have kids. Which might be the reason why they can’t. I hope that man is locked up or at the very least was ordered by a judge to get a mental evaluation.

At the time I recall looking at her askance as if to say "Why would I want to do that?" Compared to other children, my response may have seemed strange. My parents at the time were separated. However, I did see my father quite frequently on many weekends. In any case, my mother's suggestion won out and I began to really enjoy summers with my father. ( He was living in NYC and I was living in New Jersey.) Unfortunately, I lost my father when I was eleven. In any case, I cherish the time I had with him and realize I would have no memory of my father's personality or who he was had I NOT spent that time with him. I can remember mourning the loss of my father. Mourning never feels comfortable but I cannot imagine losing a parent and not feeling ANYTHING. It makes me think of the adage : Better to have lost in love than never to have loved at all!!

Her 1/2 sister was even in her wedding party & her bio mom’s husband walked me & bio mom down the aisle. Contact was always at my daughter’s initiation & comfort level & everything has always gone well. Both my son-in-law & bio mom’s hubby are always amazed & amused to see all the similarities; facial expressions, hand movements, vocal similarities, the way they walk, schooling & study habits, & even similarities in handwriting! Back in the 60's it was such a traumatic process. My husband was adopted in 1966. His birth mother never had any other children and she had a lot of problems with depression after living in the maternity home and giving him up for adoption. They treated the pregnant girls horribly and they had it drilled into them that they could never look for their child. This also impacted the adopted child because they were told that they couldn't look either and records were sealed until about 20 years ago. It was very emotionally traumatic for my husband to try to get information. He really needed to meet his bio mom and hear that he was wanted and loved by her. He got that opportunity and it helped a lot. People think that adoption is all wonderful, but do not understand how much it hurts for many of the adopted children and parents.
