Games Worth Remembering - "Rez"

- The only game that claims to allow the player to experience synaesthesia. Call it trippy, call it weird, but its intricate and complex design cannot be denied. Yours for only $10 in HD on the Xbox marketplace!

One of my all-time favourites this game. Amazing game.
This is my favorite video game ever. I still play it to this day. It's so beautiful. Whatever comes out of Tetsuya Mizuguchi's mind is absolutely incredible. I'm glad there are people like you that truly appreciate games like this. All my friends hate this game because they think it's"annoying." I can't wait for Child of Eden!
I remember this game from when I was a little kid I forgot the name of it for ages and finally came across it. I used to have it on a demo disk that had a bunch of weird games on it I wish I remembered them too
I think you're very relaxing to listen to and i enjoy your thoughts on each particular game. Keep up the great work...I just subscribed.
These are great videos, keep it up! You're like a less angry moviebob :D
I just saw this on a local Web site. I've been on the lookout for it for some time and I think I'm a get it. The prise is about 17 dollars - sounds like a good deal!
Irrelevant piece of trivia: My grandmother had a piece of modern art portraying human figure staring out over a dreamlike landscape. I ever only saw a brief review of this game, but the picture always reminded me of it, even though I had forgotten the name of the game and what the review actually said about it.
Beautiful
Mizuguchi is doing a talk tonight in Melbourne, can't wait. The dude who made Rez!
loved this game so much!
Wow how have I never heard of this game before? It looks so freaking fun I wish I had known about this game when I was a kid.
I have this on Dreamcast...one of the greatest under appreciated game ever
another form of synesthesia that i see in this - which may be worth mentioning - is the experience of thoughts and time occuring in a spacial dimension, which i have to some degree... i think it is meant for the avatar to be moving more through a sequence or a queue rather than space, further building on the concept that it's supposed to be a representation of the systemic processes of a computer in a synesthetic manner. this could be farfetched, but it's how i see it.
This is a fantastic review and you have a great style with a very interesting and easy to listen to commentary. I checked out your channel and was really surprised to find that you've only made a handful of videos. Have you thought about getting back in to making them again? Or was the experience not what you were looking for?
@webfox100 Absolutely! They're both Rail Shooters, PDOrta's mechanics are much more complex because you can change forms, boost, and control your position when facing forward. I love shmups, sometime this summer I will make a video highlighting/comparing all of my favorite shmups: PDOrta, Rez, Ikaruga, Gradius V, Metal Slug Anthology, Gunstar Super Heroes, Star Fox, Super Stardust HD, Gamma Bros...did I miss any? I still need to play Sin and Punishment, DoDonPachi, and Radient Silvergun.
Great review! Is your version on the Xbox 360? I wanted to see what the Dreamcast version looked like...
Games you should check out are:
Beyond Good and Evil
Solomon's Key (Greatest game on the NES, really hard to find but you can find it on the virtual console and if you want it works well as a rom)
Fahrenheit
@NentendoLover3000 Nice description! I've wanted to try out Electroplankton and Lighttrax, but I know what they are, and you've hit the nail on the head. Oh, and I'd advise you towards getting a PS2 instead. It's cheaper, and after getting Rez you can also get Odin Sphere, GrimGrimoire, Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, Ico, SOTC, Katamari, Viewtiful Joe, DMC3, et al. It's now my favorite system of all time.
UGA (the people who brought us Rez) made another rhythm game called Space Channel 5, also for the Dreamcast
I loved this game! so simple but awesome. if anyone knows where I can get rez for pc i'd really appreciate if you could share.
@webfox100 That was my first impression, as well. The memory sequences, in particular, of that game stuck in my mind as being astoundingly vivid.
@GAthug I remember hearing about that, I should have mentioned it in the video. Thanks for the comment!
This is a traveler from six years in the future. Rez Infinite on the PS Virtual Reality Machine blows this out of the water.
Yeah i been busting out Rez in VR for the last 2 days of buying it , i cant stop playing it !! , im also confused that i never bought it for the dreamcast as it was one of my favorite consoles ever
It looks like Panzer Dragoon ORTA on XBOX. I haven't played this game yet but from the looks of the video it does look like a rail shooter. Still want to play it.
@WtFCBermudaCake Haha, I did tell myself early on "don't try to mimic Moviebob's attitude" because it's just not me. I appreciate the comment!
- Throws up all over the screen - S...sorry my brain chemistry isn't compatibruuuuuuuuuu - Throws up more -
What is the music in the very beginning?
@Valkyriefury That's pretty sweet, makes me want to play it!
Cool, good to know! I own the Dreamcast version...
REZ FTW!!!
@Fronzel41 My videos are actually not as concerned with "games as art", more like "games as experiences".
did u guys notice the eye of osiris all throughout the game? little bit weird?
sega is awesome in sense of rhythmic games
Actually, from what I've read that isn't so farfetched an example. Spacial perception definitely has to do with some forms of synaesthesia. As it applies to the game, I'm not sure.
totalbiscuit sent me here
I have to admit. I have no idea what's so special about it. It looks like a Kingdom Hearts gummy ship flight, only with fancy effects and your targets explode into beeps and boops.
I think for me, I would have to play the game to truely experiance it. Unfortunatly, seeing it on youtube doesn't do it for me.
Never the less, I very much enjoyed this episode and I'll be checking out the other ones aswell.
@Altaranalt You're right, because what you're seeing is only half the experience. It's such a zen/trance experience when you play it, I wouldn't hesitate to get it if you have an xbox360. But comparing it to Kingdom Hearts gummi ship flights? OUCH! Those levels are a disgrace to the shooter genre, truly. If you've never played a good shooter, try Star Fox, Super Stardust HD, Panzer Dragoon Orta, or Gunstar Heroes. THEN you'll see what I mean about the gummi ship :)
I beated rez because i went through area 5 and beated it
@trisemigistus Haha, that makes 2 of us who bought it
@Valkyriefury I have never played a Sid Meier game, my experience with PC games is more limited than with console games. Why do you say this game is worth remembering?
looks like a wii game... control would be awesome
@lightlittlebrownboy
Now now now, no need to be so hostile.
I won't deny that this is most likely a amazing game, but I just can't really get into the mindset of this game.
The gummyship thing was just an example. I could've said Starfox.
Also epilepsy
Dreamcast and PS2 versions of Rez are the same.
