- Here are a few clips from the rebuild of Geoff's 1952 AJS Model 18S that he bought on the local craigslist.
It takes a brave and committed person to embark on a basket case project like this!
This bike has an interesting background. The gentleman who Geoff purchased the bike from had owned it for 30+ years. He swapped it for a Volkswagen bug/beetle and allegedly the bike had been owned by a friend of Evel Knievel!! That claim would start to make more sense as Geoff inspected the motorcycle and found many parts broken or damaged, consistent with jumping. Both axles were bent. The damper rods inside the front forks were bent and the damper rods in the rear suspension units .The bottom yolk / triple tree had been broken and welded. Even the brake shoes were broken and welded together again. We often joke that the bike should have come with an altimeter instead of a speedo as it spent more time in the air than on the ground! It takes a special kind of person to embark on a basket case project like this

What a great looking, and great sounding thumper! Well done guys!
Brilliant job thanks guys ,George in Stoke 👍🇬🇧
Great to see another one saved , shame it didn't go into more detail , never mind still nice to see.
Love the Evel Knievel angle… thanks for sharing
Clearly, Geoff is a man of vision, patience and skill. You just can't beat a long-stroke, four-stroke single to put a smile on your face. Congratulations on a job well done.
That bike sounds fantastic! Geoff does good work, be like Geoff.
Amazing work on life saving adventure for this bike!!
A lovely bike, and a beautiful rebuild. Congratulations!
It brings a tear to the eye that there are men such as Geoff and yourself who will spend time, money and love in breathing new life into these irreplaceable pieces of engineering history. My hat goes off to you.
Hi Phil, many thanks for your very kind note. I really appreciate it and Geoff did it all! He’s done a remarkable job with the bike and it is so cool. Best wishes, Mike.
What a lovely job guys, well done!
Nice job recreating that AJS. Brought back memories for me. My first bike at age 15 was a 1953 Matchless G3LS. I sold it in my third year of uni to pay bills. It went to a family that stilll owns it and although I have tried to get it back my 7 years of ownership doesnt match the 50 years they have had it. But its good to know my old bike is still running about.
Thanks for sharing John. Best wishes 👍
Thanks for your video! My first motorcycle 1965 was an AJS 18CS - wonderful bike!
What a glorious feeling it must be to have it up and running! Nice achievement!
Well done!
Another one saved 👍 Mike . Ray 🇬🇧
Great to see! I'm rebuilding an old Matchless G80S basket case and it was in roughly the same shape.
Great to hear! Thanks a lot for your note. Best wishes with your bike.
Very nice job guys!
An exceptional project! Bravo. Thank you for saving the bike and recording it's restoration journey.
Such a cool looking bike!👍
That's a beauty. I saw an old Norton project (1939 I think) on Craigs List a few weeks ago. It was in much better shape than that AJR was but it was completely disassembled, laying on blankets and in boxes. It was local to me and seemed to be 90 percent there...the guy who was planning on putting it together had died and his family was selling the project for around 5 grand. I was so tempted to buy it, but I really don't have space to do a project like that, and it's a bit above my pay grade. Assembling a 60's Triumph seems doable, but a 39 Norton is a different beast. Anyway, I told a friend about it a day later and he was intrigued... when I went to show him the listing it wasn't there. So someone probably jumped on it. Th chrome and paint tank was beautiful.
I love that he has left some patina so it still looks “old”.
Enjoyed the progress shots too. Amazing.
Great bike ... tks for video ...mike❤
Great to keep signs of the bikes earlier life. Wonderful to see and hear it back on the road. Well done!
Nice job Geoff. Love the sound of these old singles. Thanks for the video Mike.
Hey, Mike, what a beauty! Congratulations to Geoff for this fine bike! Greetings from very stormy northern Germany Manfred

What a great video - lovely to see another 50's AMC single restored to running condition - a 500 too ! . . . What a treat . . .
Was great to see the bike progressing from a pile of bits, to a complete and running machine, well done that man, top job.
Congratulations! What a beauty!
Oh man guys, that is a great bike and a great journey getting her back on the road! Bless you and your families

Some work , great
Well done, this beautiful bike deserved it !👍
brave man
Great video. Incredible considering what it was like previously. Was the dent in the tank easy to get out?
Very clever and skilled fella to bring the motorcycle back to life.
Just a question, bit of topic. Is that an Australian Cattle Dog?
Looks like it, a blue heeler. Geoff sounds like an Aussie
Albert John Stevens perhaps I recall correctly ??
Nice!
