- She Turned an ABANDONED Island into a 5-star Resort is another episode of my Made in Africa series where I feature black entrepreneurs from all across Africa who have built successful businesses and they tell us how they did it. Today's episode is about Rosemary Okoli who is a Nigerian entrepreneur who designs island destinations and makes them into multi-million dollar travel businesses. She is the brains behind the success of the biggest beachfront in West Africa, the Landmark Beach resort.
She tells us how she left the US to start her business in Nigeria. She also shares with us how she was able to build her business in Nigeria despite facing many challenges and difficulties. In this video, I tour one of the latest beach resorts she designed and manages in Lagos Nigeria and I also show you a new innovative way of managing and owning real estate in Africa. The prayer and fasting of many Christians across the continent and the world are not going in vain. God is opening the minds of our people to be creative and innovative. Africa got left behind in the Industrial Revolution, but I can see Africa catching up with the Technological Revolution and more...

I've been to the Light House Beach House and what's striking for me is how secluded it is from the hustle and bustle of Lagos. Its quiet and a real getaway if you're looking to refresh yourself. I feel that more activities can be included for guests, also, more can be done with the space.

Rosemary is not only an inspiration to all the women in Africa, but to every black people all over the world. I like her vision on what she wants to do. I just hope she share her knowledge with some of the native people in Africa so they can explore their own vision. I was at this beach house in 2019 under the initial owners and it was ridiculously run down, generators weren’t working, showers weren’t working etc. I saw the revamp and was so happy cos the potential was there. Kudos 👌🏾

Honestly this lady is doing great with our beaches. Her background as an architect and a MBA graduate is working for her. How I wished Nigerian Tourim Development Corporation (NTDC) and Lagos State Tourism Ministry can support organizations like this with structures and appropriate regulations.

They are already having that talks to revive our tourism industry. They even had a seminar a couple of weeks ago.

I remember going to tarkwa bay beach as a child in the 80s. The water was more clam than snake island. Its nice to see such growth in the nigerian tourist industry. Impressive work!!!

There's Araromi beach in Ondo state and Ibeno beach in Akwa ibom that could transform tourism in Nigeria. For West Africa, Sierra Leone have lots of potentials. I think East Africa have done well in tourism. We should look more into West African countries.

Wow, that's some beautiful prime real estate. Folks have to overstand that most politicians are not visionaries, they're bureaucrats. Most don't produce anything tangible just toss salad fluff empty promises. We black folks have to take responsibility like our sister and create our own.
Wow mad intelligent! She basically said the United States would of stumped her from growing! Just like me I went to college for interior design and was told I was to young and the wrong color to be successful this was in the mid 90's. I was only 19 very excited ready to use what I learned, full of talent with new knowledge just like her but unlike me she went back to her blk country and flourished in freedom to do her work! 😔 she mentioned she's not a designer but a architect. Designer learn how to space plan decorate and architecture! I worked on a job they didn't trust since I only 19 and blk I didn't know what I was doing!

Another great video, Tayo. I too returned and have been investing in agric (I am from/in Benue). It is amazing how our people have no idea what we are sitting on. With this japa culture, it will be too late when they realize the West is quickly returning back to their precolonial status.

@@godschild4615 Yes, the government is not helping. And it's very hard to operate when there is no government support. I don't blame anyone who is looking abroad for better opportunities. I happen to be Obedient and I believe a new Nigeria is possible, but we have to be ready to go from consumption to production which will be no easy task. We all have to take responsibility for decades of bad habits and terrible governance. I hope who ever gets into office, they fully grasp what's at stake and not just think of themselves. God bless

Hi Tayo, another great video. First of all the face look familiar. I recall this face in some of your old videos like Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Benin, Seychelles and perhaps some other ones.
This is a COURAGEOUS and HARDWORKING young lady from what I understand from this amazing and inspiring interview. She’s also ELOQUENT and sound intelligent. She makes me remember my nephew who is also an Architect.
It’s great that we have people like her changing the face of Africa coastline. I remember one of your video where you discussed WHY IS WEST AFRICA COASTLINE EMPTY.

Omg! I wish I knew of this place earlier, look at me searching for a good hotel in Lagos. This is perfect for me and my family. I love how quiet and serene it is. Christmas in Finland is so boring and cold, I wanted to come back home but the reviews of the beach front hotels were discouraging. Oh well I guess we would come next year. Quick question: how can we access the beach since it is on an island are there a solid transportations other than the wooden boats?
As a business not responsible yet have available transportation & pricing per seasons will help increase volume. My 💼 fight to 🛑 name calling has beaten me down so beautiful destination needs to be international traveling a business trip family vacation class assignment as groups with chaperones. History lessons by traveling. 4 ~ 6 (5) day trips. Wednesday ~ Sunday & Friday 2 Monday ~ Tuesday packages.

I am so happy for her and wish her and other Africans success if they are trying something similar. Nigeria unfortunately has to resort to selling land space to foreigners for development in the tourism industry, especially India who has but so many resorts throughout Africa a d only hite their own people for management positions and the Africans have lower positions. This is because the African leaders do not demand this because they are probably being paid not to. Congratulations to this African woman for staying true to herself and committed to improving her nation through investment. Other Africans can learn from this and hopefully influenced to do something similar.

I love this video. I too believe that we have it in Africa. Sometimes I think of the fact that these other countries that we migrate to, those are actually people's native land and they built their heritage, culture and everything. So why don't we build ours to have people come in too ? I am not trying to be a hypocrite, I would also love to travel as I have never left Nigeria before to experience other places and all, but I feel we really need to build Africa, Nigeria we have a lot of resources, may be our one issues is no one wants to come and suffer, like start from the scratch to build something, so we migrate to places were all these are already provided, we overlook what we could turn our own into with proper management. I really love your leading vision Rosemary, keep it up and thanks Tayo for bringing this to us 👏👏👏
