Came back in the middle of the night, broke their way through a deadbolt by destroying the frame and bucking of the side door to my garage and ran off with JUST the dirtbike (street bike and tools left untouched). My bikes are secured with a chain that’s 18kg (39lbs) and is designed to resist 6” angle grinders (plus the cover and disc lock), which means if they REALLY want one of my bikes, they will have to work for it. Night riding requires you to be extra cautious, lights need to work and reflective gear are critical. Rain is something that happens so be prepared, what that means is regular maintenance is not an option on a motorcycle, tires and brakes should be good at all times. Having a rain suit on you when the weather looks questionable is always a good idea, and if it is going to rain and you can avoid riding it is best to avoid riding.

As long as you garage has no other access to it except the bay door and doo that leads into the home they won't be able to break in. They can try to open your door but they'll have to literally destroy it to enter and that'd make such a ruckus that the entire neighborhood would be awake at that point.

Checkout Pewag chain. About 62 rockwell IIRC. I bought it by the foot. The vendor said its used as a tire wrap for giant dump trucks to get extra traction. There are test showing it takes about 60 seconds to cut through each side of one link. 2 minutes of grinding. Thats the kind I have with a massive Abus lock.

For anyone who likes to tinker, here's an old school, cheap and easy, homemade option that I have on my vintage machine that's way too easy to hotwire:
You'll need to purchase a mercury switch and a toggle switch to wire it into. They're cheap. Mount them somewhere discreet (mine is mounted inside my toolbox, with the toggle switch coming through a hole that I drilled in the top of the toolbox.) Wire this setup into your battery and into your horn (three separate wires: mercury switch to toggle switch, toggle switch to battery, and mercury switch to horn.) Finally, set the angle of the mercury switch so that it activates when the bike is standing level. That's it. Now, anytime you park your bike in a place where you're concerned about theft, flip on the toggle switch, and if someone stands the bike up without turning it off, the horns will immediately start blaring. Homemade motorcycle alarm that is a solid deterrent to thieves.

Attach a usb port in your battery box and the phone will always be charged
You could probably have one of those apps on the phone that allows you to hear and record from the microphone from another phone

That was one big thing that happened out at our Marine Corps base in 29 palms when I was in. Seemed like they were on a spree taking them right out of off base housing.

Bikes are like animals you have to guard them and bring them inside when it gets cold! You don’t it want be there! I got two and I got the biggest chain I could buy, like a short piece was $150 bucks so good stuff, and a level 10 case hardened lock and I bolt them to the garage door frame so noisy if you touch it! Plus mine want start without the key and the steering locks on both bikes! Plus I’m retired I’m home and up all night and I’m surrounded by family on all sides so someone is always watching things. So good luck not getting your head blown off around here 😳😂
