While RT PCR tests continue to be in short supply during the ongoing second wave of the pandemic in India, there has been a surge in CT scans and tests to detect lung activity. However, experts are sounding alarm at indiscriminate usage of CT and its radiation risks. ThePrint’s Sandhya Ramesh explains what the CT scan is, how it works, what the risk of radiation exposure is, what studies show, and what we need to worry about.

One CT scan radiation in equal to radiation from 200 no of X rays or 1500 no of dental X rays.
CT scans are prescribed by doctors, hospitals because, huge money can be made in small amount of time.
    60 - 70% CT Scans are unnecessary.

I'm 34, so after 40 I can expect cancer like that? Does any food to help rebuild cell bottoms? Is there anything else that can be done? I was sent to this CT completely healthy. Do you know what the radiation dose would be from such an examination? It says 1037 mGycm to me. It was with contrast: /

    • @sammyreal12
      @sammyreal12 Před rokem

      CT SCAN IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!
worse than getting radiation naturally (all at once rather than over years)?
Radiation from x-ray photon energy is not cumulative, the damage is.
Natural Background Radiation is average if 1.5 - 3 mGy per year. Divide that by 365 days then the by 24 hours.
That is radiation dose that does not penetrate your body.
1 CT scan of the chest and Deposits directly inside your body over 1000 mGy in 15 seconds.
I leave the calculations and decision making to you.
Now how do we know the dose?
Average radiation dose is measured and calculated by the CT scanner based on having a pencil type Geiger counter in a centre of a phantom.
based on that measurement the CT Scanner calculates the dose length product which is the total dose went inside the patient, for example from top of the brain to the end of the cerebellum.
that dose is recorded automatically in the patient file. And in some places with no conflict of interest like ours the total dose is displayed on the digital image or printed on the film.
I call it deposited because that’s the real dose that reached the centre of the body part exposed.
Google average DLP in Australia from the ARPANSA website.
And next time you get a CT scan ask the Radiographer or Technologist, what was the DLP you received. It is your right to know.
there are many beneficiaries who will try anything to lure patients and hide the truth from people and lure them to have a scan. It’s all about the money and not you. You are just dollars in their bank.
And there many ignorant people who learnt nothing from their studies and they become teachers with PhD, teaching the new generation deceptive gobbledygook science. They didn’t even bother reading the dose displayed on the CT scanner.
you want to know the risks? Read Prof John Matthews research conducted at the Melbourne university and published in the British Medical Journal (2013). There are few other studies at that magnitude done in other countries publishing similar outcomes.
the risk of developing cancer from a single CT scan examination is 24% higher than the unexposed general population, and then additional 16% for every additional CT scan.

I wonder if I’m being a hypochondriac but I seriously am so mad at myself for being so stupid. I broke my pinky finger, the base of my proximal phalanx about a year and a half ago, and unfortunately it healed with a malunion, I should’ve just let it go, but I’m a guitar player and I was considering doing osteotomy for it. I went to several different surgeons and got probably maybe 7 to 8 different x-rays over the course of the year, I also got a CT scan recently on my hand as well, I have been reading a lot about how I can damage the DNA, I can’t really explain it, but before my hand felt stupid and now it feels retarded. I feel like my hand is so weak, I just tried playing the guitar and maybe it’s partly muscle memory but I feel like I basically nuked my hand and destroyed it. My hand CT was a high 4.18 mGy and 101 DLP. I also got a MRI to even though they said that’s non ionizing. But I’m sure there is still risk. Which is according to research about a year and a half background radiation. The problem is they don’t tell crap about that as you’re going into appointment. Wish they did. Cause I read it can damage your dna and it’s not like after a year and a half it’s back to good. It stays with you forever. This is the most covered up conspiracy of our generation. Withholding the risks of radiation ☢️ in our lives.

    • @igor6270
      @igor6270 Před rokem

it' not high radiation. Nuclear workers receive 50 msv every year, so there is no increase in mortality among them.On Earth, humans are exposed to 3 to 4 mSv of radiation a year. On the International Space Station, astronauts get about 300 mSv per year. these are large doses and there is no increase in cancer among them. Humans have been exposed to ionizing radiation since the dawn of time. So it's nothing new for the body. DNA regenerates after exposure. But it can happen that it is not renewed and then only from that can cancer arise. But the question is whether they will. Also, if you smoke and expose yourself to the sun every day, DNA is destroyed too much, and it is also a question whether it will be renewed, so many factors affect whether someone will get it or not.

      Iam 30 years old
I too worried i even crossed every limit of fear and stopped all my work
But slowly getting to the truth
Ct scan radiation cancer percent is less than 1% that too after 10-50 years

@@krishnachaitanya573 even now i have extreme fear of radiation induced cancer
      But we are not alone
Be positive that after 10 years technology will develop treatment will be advanced
What ever be the cancer if it comes the survival rate will be doubled
So trying to be positive but sometimes it is disturbing
I did 3 or 4 ct scans of my brain for severe seizure(only once in my life)
      Head injury
      Chronic headaches
This all led to 3 or 4 ct scans
      What about you bro

@@PraveenKumar-ng1ss don't worry bro, if the frequency is not immediate then you don't need to worry much. That too for head scan they use minimal radiation range. Typically 1-2 msv.In my case 3 ct chest scans in a span of 3 weeks due to covid(7msv * 3). I also got nervous initially but now I am moving on. I hope everything will be fine.
