      I have them every other week for my Head start child Because he has an IEP, and honestly I love it. I don't have a car ATM and the meetings really are important and valuable. So this way lower income families aren't prevented from being able to participate in their child's schooling because of lack of means or transportation.

      @@AWindy94 thanks for sharing that perspective! i went to public school and had never seen or heard of this but it was a really small school in a very small and relatively rural town where everyone basically had to have access to a car to ‘go into town’ for groceries/errands/work and everyone knew each other so it was pretty easy to find rides if need be

      My sister’s are certified preschool teachers, they both work for public schools in West Virginia and they don’t do home visits. Parents aren’t required to attend 2 meetings but teachers are required to offer them.

      He is talking in the term of head start. You do home visits and typically they are really making sure the family is okay because of the extreme poverty, also it’s like a check mark the parents aren’t lying on a application.

      I have them every other week because my child has an IEP. It's really convenient that they come to me I really don't think I'd be able to go to them that frequently and the conferences really are valuable.

    I taught preK in a NYC public school in Brooklyn for a year. The preK classes that were in the the regular public schools were part of the school, just like the rest of the other grades. The only thing that was different in the City schools was that the pre K ate their breakfast, lunch and snacks family style in their classroom, which I enjoyed. I would be able to give the extra cereal, milk, fruit and other food at the end of the day or week to the children who might be food insecure at home. I would just put some food in their book bags near the end of the day.
    Some 3K and preK programs in NYC take place in parochial schools or community based organizations such as nursery schools or daycare centers. If the programs take place in a school that normally charges tuition, the 3K and preK programs are free for the students (paid by the city)

    Why would a teacher do a home visit and not like a social worker? Feels like an odd thing to add to the job description lol

      @TiaNichole17 Před rokem

      @@SJ-ni6iy well they do your talking to another preschool teacher. In Head start which is the program he referring to requires home visits, because besides giving free early childhood education, it’s is a like a social work program, I believe there is an onsite social worker, as well as administrators that helps with job placement as well as work experience. If your sisters work at a public school meaning it goes up to 5th or 6th grade wouldn’t qualify. Remember to educate yourself.

    A lot of the elementary teachers around me do home visits especially if a child is absent a lot or falling behind. I think it's required for prek and some other things but that was one reason I couldn't teach the younger grades. It's insane walking into some houses

    I think my pre school did home visits I have a clear memory or a conference in pre k. I remember my teacher told me to not leave the room, So I just hung out in the back play area and played with the play kitchen then lined up all duplo blocks in silence. I still remember being confused why my mom was in my classroom and why I couldn’t go home.

    So interesting to see the shock of home visits, it’s considered great practice in the equivalent of pre k in the uk & very normal.
    It’s mostly seen here as useful to get a more holistic view of the child and to build a relationship with the family that isn’t based on judgment.

    Im a sophomore and am a amateur kickboxer i got expelled for 2 years with the possibility of coming back next year under certain stipulations. One of them being 1 of the 4 principals have to cone in for a home visit every week and the principals search my room for any illegal possessions ( basically a teacher trying to be a probation officer) i told them” you take 1 step in to my house im gonna kick you in the fucking head” lets just say they ruled out the possibility of me coming back to school next year. And I seriously didn’t know teachers had the right to come search your house. I get it if your a school cop if u have a warrant but not a teacher. Good thing i never signed the contact i was supposed to sign as another stipulation to come back which would have gave them the ok to search my house. Everyone read paperwork especially if your in trouble by the schools

  • @abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1496

    why would the parents be obligated to let teachers in their home? abuse isn’t really the school’s responsibility i don’t get it

    • @AWindy94
      @AWindy94 Před rokem +11

      It's also for accessibility for lower income families so they aren't prevented from participating in their child's schooling due to lack of transportation. My kid takes the bus, I don't have a car, And if My kids teacher didn't come to me, I wouldn't be able to be nearly as actively participating in his schooling. So it really does serve a good purpose.

      The “we pay $2,000…were not meeting with you.” part irks me. Throwing money at the school is not going to make up for your disinterest in knowing what your child is learning. P.S. Abuse can happen at any income level.
