We need that underwater of the Jackall Driftfry rigged multiple ways.
The flying lure! That's exactly what the bait was all about.
Amazing how the banjo minnow also was put out and put out and considered as a gimmick.
Both actually caught fish very well under the right conditions.
But that is the same with all baits and rigs.
I was lucky enough to be one of the very first people to get my hands on the Hover rig. I put it through its paces over a long weekend when I first got it. I rigged it with several different plastics, but for me, the winner was just a 5" stickbait. Also, I fished it in places and ways it was never designed for - skipping under flooded brush and into thick hydrilla. What happened? Well, I caught so many fish that I lost count. My biggest so far is just north of 7 pounds. Jonny, Matt, Jimi, - you guys all know I'm a Hover rig nut by this point.
I’ve followed both you and Matt for years and I felt lucky to get my order in early and I have been using it and catching both bass and crappie( during a club tournament) I am so happy for your success with this rig and I look forward to the Growth of Core Tackle💯🕺🏻
I started using these on a highly pressured lake near me. It has worked so well I have already made a second purchase. My baits last an exceptionally long time. This is a very effective technique.
Looks amazing. Congratulations on Core Tackle!
Just ordered some hover rigs and can’t wait to try these out! Thanks for all the info you guys put out and good luck with current and future designs 🎣
I got mine. Have not used them yet, but will. Thank you for the underwater footage. Been waiting for that. Your videos are awesome.
Best, most informative video I think I have ever watched on CZcams!!! Thank you so much for the in-depth info!!! Glad I ordered some Core heads last week!! Lol
Thanks so much for your video. The instruction for rigging the different baits was awesome. I'll definitely check out the product.
These work awesome. I’ve had mine for two weeks. Simple to switch presentations also. Thank you.
I just received mine today in the mail. I help the High School bass team. I have only been doing it for a year and get a lot of joy watching them fish. I got 6 packs of them and hopefully that will help them in their next tournament next week. That’s the biggest drawback I go through a lot of tackle.
Nice ... I like it ... Thank you Sir for all your work .... much Appreciation for what you do.
Great rig!!! I pulled out my PB bass out of the neighborhood pond just a couple of weeks ago using this Core Tackle jig with a Missile Baits Ned Bomb. I can't wait to take it out to the big lakes in my area.
terrific vid! I got my core tackle jig heads, couple of months back. Like you said, very similar to fishing a hair jig on certain retrieves. Good stuff!
Before buying my Bass Boat, I was into Kayak fishing the local rivers for Smallmouth. I wanted to start targeting Largemouth on docks in some of the larger lakes. Which I did. That was the Spring of 2015. The Fall of 2016 Gene Larew and Lew's both came out with a "Dock Shooter" system for Bass fishing docks. Just the thing I was looking for. The Larew set-up used a hook that somewhat resembles your Core Tackle Hover Rig hook. They called theirs the "Pinhead Jig". The lure was a flat Bluegill type of bait that had a keel shape on both sides (Bobby Garland has a Crappie Shooting lure that I believe Gene Larew makes for them). They even came with a Pull Tab with a holographic design to aid in shooting. I haven't been able to locate the Larew stuff for a few years now. Lew's also had a "Dock Shooter" Spinning set-up that came out at the same time. All of which I purchased.
Anyway, I bought some of your Core Tackle Hover Rigs and have been shooting docks with them. I've been using the Berkley Creature Hawg's (Thanks Matt) with good success. The 1/8 oz. 3/0 hook works great for this. I haven't seen anyone talk about this technique, so I thought I'd put it out there. Good luck all!
Oh cool! I just picked some up a few weeks ago. Glad to know you guys are behind it.
Hey Johnny I know this has nothing to do with this video but I wanted to thank you because recently you and Randy have changed me completely the way I think about fishing. Randy just did a video talking about how we do to much homework about lures and not enough about bass behavior and then the other day I saw one of your videos and you were talking about how fisherman go out and start fishing without driving around and graphing for hours before you start fishing. Now Johnny a light bulb whent off in my head and I said to myself I've been fishing all these years and years and years the totally wrong. And the past couple of days I've been doing homework on bass behavior and watching your videos on how to read the fish finder better. Hey Johnny you and Randy have changed my whole thought process on how to truly become a superior bass fisherman. God bless you Johnny I really mean that. I just subscribed to your channel God bless. Ps excellent hover rig video I'll be purchasing your jighead johnny I'm almost 60 yrs old that is the best finesse rig I have ever seen.
I feel I was amongst the early buyers, only used it twice and it indeed works. For me best results were shallow at bank. Simply because I have yet to learn how to cast it far. I bought core tackle version first, and when I went to local tackle shop they told me that rig was crap and sold me on Japanese hooks and Japanese tiny weights. First fish today on Japanese style I landed fish, the plastic fell off and lost weight....I immediately tried core bait style and fished rest of day with single hook and plastic till got snagged ( I took weed guard off though). Good product...will experiment more because I want it for offshore not on bank. Bc
I'm glad I watched your video. I planned on trying different tube jig weights to set up a hover rig. I was gonna try a tube jig weight but the problem on the tube jig weight it doesn't have that nose like the core weight. So I ordered 6 packs to try the core weight hook. I'm definitely gonna give this core a world. Thanks for the content. Your doing an awesome job. I now have content to do a you tube video on this product with my test. Thanks!
I ordered my TUSH hooks and spunk shad, can’t wait til they get here! And thanks for the hat! Love your show!
Great video. Can’t wait to give it a try,
I love the hook being centered which also keeps misses from happening.
This will be the next great new technique for people that have not used it. I like the idea of the double Weed guard.
For sure! We have a prototype of a 4/0 flipping hook with 1/8oz of weight and a double cable guard. It’s pretty bad-a! Works great for flipping shallow laydowns or even fishing offshore brush in shallow water. We are still trying to find the right weed guard strength to keep it weedless while not missing fish.
The technique looks pretty cool. Going to try it on my next fishing trip.
Megabass TK Twister and the Hover Rig is absolutely crushing it in my area.
That technique looks absolutely awesome for saltwater fish too, not just bass. Flounder, redfish, snook, trout, jacks and lots more would bite it. There might be a market for bigger hooks for bigger baits used in saltwater.
I got mine today can't wait to use them!
That is awesome can’t wait to try some 👍
Delivered yesterday. Got nearly a dozen this rainy Southeastern PA morning. Some on Keitech straight tails, some on Poor Boys Eerie Darters. All largemouth. All 7' to 1' depth. I'm a terrible line watcher, but sometimes the rig felt heavy when twitching, so I'd set the hook.
Very much appreciate your content. I've had a ton of success trying Matt's baits and techniques, and your lessons on finding fish and showing techniques has been awesome. I'm still a terrible fisherman, but much less so thanks to your vids! Ever in Philly region, let's fish!
Glad they’re working for you! Thanks for the support.
Just ordered 6 packs of these, 1/16, 3/32, 3/64. Fish a heavily pressured lake, and did really well on the nail weight, and center hooking worms Texas style. These things should do awesome. Too bad there isn’t any 1/8 available
We do well on this as a weightless jig hooked bait for lake trout in ultra clear water. The technique is simple, the less you pay attention the better it works. They literally rip the rod out of your hand. Im excited to try this weighted version!
This rig straight cleans them up after other anglers
Absolutely love the Core Tackle rig! Now that I have used it enough to be completely addicted to them and have now started to experiment with most every plastic I own I am wishing that the rig would be made with more weight options. I have been trying to use it for smaller baits and even the lighter weight is still to large and destroys the bait before I can fish it. I would most definitely be willing to pay more for that rig but have it made with tungsten so the weight would be smaller for those small baits.
I'm excited about this technique! In the time it took to watch this video I've already thought of all the spots on lakes I fish. I'm on my way to your website to place an order. I would like to see a 1/32 oz. setup.
Awesome rig
Great explanation of the rig. I’ll have to try it out on lake Eufaula AL.
Just grabbed some hover rigs last week! Tied one on and it looks so good in the water!
This is new to me, I'm very intrigued..
Going to give it a try sometime.
We do this since ages, it's called tube fishing 😉
No serious, great vid! showing the technique and different bait styles, thanks man!
I use the Float and Fly on Dale Hollow. The bait is suspended above the fish with a small cork . The bait gets its action from the water surface. It works in cold water. But basically it’s the same concept the bait set above the fish and shakes and quivers.
Got my core tackle hover rigs in a couple weeks ago. Gonna give them a try this weekend!!!
I’ve tried several baits on mine, best results were on Googan Bandito bugs. Good tip on moving further back in worm, tried with senko but further back might help.
Been doing this for years. Great technique for suspended fish. I got the idea from fishing tubes.
Hookup baits 🙊
Got some on the first week when Matt announced. Weather been bad so don't have muck to report.
Just received mine . went out the next day and caught a nice walleye. Really like this technique and will order more
A little late I’ve used this in a smaller bait fishing for crappies and by the way I superglue the plastic jig body and weight on the hook
I bought some Hoover rigs from yalls website and man they are dynamite!
This is awesome i hope to see you guys at ICAST this year
Caught’em on the Nikko leach 1st time out. Worked great
First timer, not really interested in american bass foshing but i love the nerdyness of this. Great info mate
The idea is around the sinking type hard lure for a long time, mainly used in salt water fishing. Sinking the front and rear evenly and make it wiggles during its fall. I saw similar rod-like jighead in Asia last year.
Good to hear techniques are passing amongst 2 continent.
Very Cool!
I was using that on the Cosa River back in the 1960's
I just ordered both sizes; I will try them for smallmouth on St Clair if I get them in time, the 1st of June, I’ll let you know what happens!
I just got my hover rig last week and I got a nice one on the first cast.
Lets go with the hats Jonnie and Matt. Thanks
Kind of reminds me of the flying lure. That “as seen on tv” lure from the 90s. I remember my dad buying the kit and the banjo lure too 😆
Haha I remember that one! No new ideas under the sun they say!
Just bought 2 packs. Can’t wait to try them out!
Flying Lure
Gonna get me some!
The duddley ned rig worm is flat and works great with this
This has me wanting to try it on a small tube for small mouth
Mine gets here today !!
I am very lacking when it comes to finesse fishing. The lake here cleared to 10-12ft vis. I could see them on the scope but could not catch until I threw the hover rig worm, ended up being walleye but they bit.
I will have to tell my customers about these hover rigs
Good Stuff
You should start a series on how to read low grade fish finders.
This is exactly what I need to try on a lizard
Been doing this with a crossed eyes hook and nail weight for about 2 years here on highland resivoirs
I just ordered a few! Sweeet
Tried new today. Second cast - 3lb LMB. Unreal!
Gene Larew created this exact same weighted hook for their bass shooter bait several years ago.
Video made me order this. LOL
Hi if you come out with a 1/4 oz this would be great for summer flounder fishing in the surf.
Fly fishing with an intermediate line is way ahead at presenting a leech, dragonfly nymph or minnow imitation horizontally, like fish see these prey items. An additional benefit of flyfishing is that you can pause the retrieve and the imitation falls very slowly.
Got my jig hooks in today small size I'm gonna rig it on 6sense jungle minnow
We need a micro version for ice fishing !!
This stuff sounds good and I will try it. One question can you use other than a spinning reel or is it just to light to cast very well even with a very good bait casting reel such as Shimano ?
this came out 20 years ago ...remember the "flying lure"
A weight tube head, with a little modification, could be a good substitute while I’m waiting on my Core heads to arrive in the mail!
Man we just spent the weekend on erie. It was tuff fishing. I had this with me, and totally forgot to use it. Which is disappointing! It's amazing how you can forget things while you're on the water
Damiki rig fun on Cherokee in winter for small mouth
Really cool lure. Maybe you guys Can re-develop the flying lure. I still have a box of those and they are great for gliding backwards under docks. The concept was great but the plastic and weed guard not so good.
Fun rig thanx for sum different opinions on set ups n baits. Luv G-crack, Deps bull gill flippin around wood 🪵 n bushes. They hammer it like bed fishin with others in competition, mega food frenzy attack. Totally natural descent with flutters in the appendages make it mmmm mmm mmm yummy! Testing sum 6” unrigged flatter sided swamz. On a 1/0 trokar jig hk with a Nories screw in willow blade that also anchors the plastic to the hook. Lil mo flash as it tickles n pulses the h2o while in a fluttering injured bait dance of death. Almost free riggy actions. Keep at’em y’all & keep feeding us the great technical research 🔬 that flat oot whoops bass
Jon,
Don't know Matt Stefan but I do recognize how many hours you've put into your channel, your lake breakdowns and your entire business model. I guess my advice would be to make sure you get paid 1st and most in all of your business dealings
How about using a tube? Might be really good with this rig?
Love your stuff Johnny, but you’re so big now that I try to fish the opposite of whatever you’re promoting 😂 I checked out one of your offshore spots at lake Tenkiller 2 weeks ago and found a lot of lure shy fish. That spot has been hammered since you put that video up lol
Haha I’m having the same issue myself! I’m having to change the way I fish because all of my normal strategies are not as effective as they have been. I’ve figured out some cool new strategies with the Hover Rig this past month that I’ll be sharing soon that are working really well.
I flip and pitch a Matt Lures crappie bait thats 4.5, maybe 5 inches long. The bait has no tail action and gets bit on the fall. Sometimes it gets bit by "hovering" it with longer casts. 🤔
So far it’s been deadly for me in Texas! I’m fishing them on a Yamamoto Zako 3” or Zman trick shotz or Zoom tiny fluke and it’s been amazingly effective for me but very difficult to fish in Texas wind. I’d like to see a 1/4 oz 3/0 size for windy conditions.
Glad to hear it! We have prototypes of a 1/4 version in a 5/0 flipping hook. It’s great for windy days and fishing bigger baits.
Is there a difference between the spine rig and the hover rig?
These jigheads look awesome, do you ship them to Germany aswell?
Johnny what is the name of that bait that you show on the hover rig on core tackles website? I've been trying to leave through your videos for several days to find the one that you showed it in as one of your favorite baits but I cannot find it. Also the new car tackle swim jigs Steam incredible! I ordered one of each the moment I found out they were released. Which will complete my collection of owning everything you guys make. Thank you and keep up the great work and innovating the fishing world
Cut the top off a 1 inch roof tack push it in the head get the same spiral action it's the head getting bunched up making the action 😊
Anyone tried this method for saltwater, such as the sound for sea trout or reds? Looks like it could work with paddle tails.
Hey FTM, have you tried Berkley Powerbait Champ Minnow with the hover rig?
Livescope fishing. That's video game fishing. I doubt I'll ever add it.
Wouldn’t the Hazedong pin tail work just as good as Wheelers “secret bait”?
Just placed fourth in a local tourney using only this technique
What bait did you use and how did you work it? I've tried all kinds of retrieves and all kinds of baits and so far the only thing that I've had luck with was a beaver style and just barely hopping It Down rocks and everything else has failed I've tried
Hey Joe good for you bro that's awesome I'm almost 60 yrs old and I have medical issues and I can't compete but I can go fun fishing hey Joe have a great tournament season this year and I hope you win some tournament's this year God bless you and your family.
What did the other 3 use?
@@natea4828 zman jerk shad 4 inch on bridge pilings
Well it aint that good then
This looks like a dream bait for co-anglers fishing people absent minded or inconsiderate boat owners.
I will tried them but when of how come they to Holland.
I'd be interested in a mini version for trout and panfish
Already on it! Getting prototypes soon
fairly new to fishing & just curious about how the weed guard works on hooks like that … How effective are they for preventing brush snagging? And does it make it any less effective for snagging fish?
The weed guard will provide some protection agains brush and grass, but not as much as a normal jig brush guard. The weed guard is pretty light as to not interfere with a hook set.
We have some prototypes for a double cable guard version that is stiffer and works really well through brushpiles and timber.
@@FishtheMoment Awesome thanks
