That guy's suicidal diversion at the end would have lasted at least 5 seconds longer if he stayed behind that car and opened fire from there instead of stupidly trying to quick-draw on a dozen trigger-happy stressed out soldiers *in the open* lol

One part of the scenes that I love is how their UCP uniforms look incredible, even though it was a failure, the army camouflages in the movies are incredible 💯

for real. I think with the walking dead zombies it should have been contained but they made the military weak. Like those are slow zombies and you're fucked if you're in a swarm of them. But if you have weapons and plan then you stand a chance.

Close to the end of the movie it was revealed that the soldiers killed everyone, even the uninfected, not just to “contain the spread“ but to also, I assume, keep the rest of the world from finding out what happened, and as much as I hate to say it, I am worried that children were not spared. Tossing that into consideration, I believe it’s very likely that the soldiers were carrying this kid away to his/her death.

I would hope the government / military plan would be, calmly explain to people what is going on, treat them decently with compassion and care, be professional. Threatening and shoving frightened people around with guns is not a good plan...
actually it is, it would make them comply, remember when everyone was told to wear a mask because of corona but not everyone listened so it kept getting worse
I mean we’ve done that before considering that has been the case with Covid in many places and people don’t always listen, if anything has been proven by the pandemic is that there is an ambundace of ppl who value personal freedoms and belief as well as distrust of authority over greater good restrictions and any government interference,
And considering the nature of the outbreak in the movie you can’t guarantee that some of the townspeople haven’t already entered physcosis and the rage of the virus and won’t react violently leaving more chaos to contain, so an armed response that scares people is better than one that fails and leaves a state wide viral outbreak

This isn't an endorsement of draconian style, government response or martial law but...I don't exactly have much faith in the average civilian acting rationally in an event like this. You can communicate as rationally and kindly as you want, groups of people are prone to panic and act irrationally, as we have seen recently.
Like the Men in Black quote that I'm going to butcher but goes something like "a person is smart, people are dumb, panicky, etc."

They have a white light setting, a Red light (combat operations) and an IR strobe on the side that can been seen with night vision.

The idea of putting just the thinned-ass broken piece of steel fence (street corner park may have better fences...) as a containment method is super dumb. You realize those are literally unknown viruses, likely a crazy zombie type. Just build in a freaking reinforced stainless steel roadblock and then placed the concrete wall around it with the steel bars.

@@kyiaao By the time frame of the movie, it's around 2 days. Idk how badass the federal-level construction team is. However, definitely not some thinned-ass steel fence. That's lots of modern solution approaches to these kinds of situations.

U.S military COVID training day.
I know they didn't have any military assistance in film this movie, but this might have been the worst attempt to portray the US military in a big budget movie ever. It was like they bought all the 90s surplus they could find and then sprinkled a handful of ACU helmets and armor in for the actors directly in front of the camera for each given shot. I've never seen the military use that "gimp style" containment suit before, I'm not even sure if that was real or a bunch of rubber clothes they put together for the movie.
The HMMWVs scream surplus in the configuration they have them (fresh paint, no markings, no armor, soft tops, empty truck beds, MGs just mounted to the roof with no turret, etc...).
The helos are obviously civilian birds normally used for Vietnam movies. The Army hasn't used the ones in the movie in decades (UH-1s and AH-1s) and the Marines use versions that are VERY visually distinct; they didn't even paint them the right color to be Marine helos. There are civie Blackhawks (S-70s) they could have rented... I was always confused as to why they didn't.
Weapons were ok, but again, lots of old stuff even for the time. They had M4s which was right, but the optics and attachments were a hodgepodge of stuff that was ancient or that we never used.
I think the first thing I said after the movie was over was: "I don't whose military that was, but it wasn't ours."
