I'm not really a Ford guy, but you have to respect a hard working 50 year old truck.
Bernie is the truck , Mortske is the man . The perfect team for getting it done while your having fun . From Stuart in Ontario ( Canada ) ..
Lol
That Puddin guy needs a Bernie. The Tow-rolla has seen better days.
Seriously he needs a 4 wheel drive tow truck exactly
@@gerrygwilson2849or a flatbed
See, Mortske has a heart and feelings like everyone else..Have a great day everyone! ☺
Bernie's a great rig. Whenever I see a repair facility with a cool vintage tow truck that always speaks volume. It means they know how to maintain things.
Absolutely
Bernie is the greatest tow truck ever put on CZcams!
Wrecker!
The pad eyes on the back end, are for the Snatch Blocks which are in your tool box !!!
Their hook fits into pad eyes on rear.
They should open...
Allowing you to run your cable through them.
This setup will allow you to winch at say a 90° angle.
(you on highway, winching something out of the ruebarb !!
NEVER winch sideways just off boom !!!
Keeping your cable/winch point low..helps plant your tires.
I'm the guy who told you to wrap your chain around jour lower strap bar...to stop hhe from popping..up..and out during tight turns.
I towed for like 5 years and learned the hard way about the chains coming off that lower bar.
Funny thing last I towed was with a 74 F350.
Ours had a Weld-Built body, not a Holmes.
(dam near same thing)
That 360 it had was a DOG !!!
Original 69 C-30 had a 327...which was great for racing city busses in Chicago !!
...wait !!! We didnt do That ..
Or did we ??
Aint talking.
Ma story and sticking to it !!
Thanks for sharing!
I'm old so I may be biased, but I would take Bernie over just about anything in the yard. This functional iconic look is so hard to find outside the museum.
Dang, Mortske!! You stole Bernie!! He deserved his own video.
BERNIE.....THE MAN.....THE LEGEND....THE TRUCK. 😎 Thanks for the tour, Mort. It's my privilege to help support your channel(s). Thank you for the awesome content on both channels. 🍺
You rock!
Always watch, it may be a week or two later, and I admire the fact that you make an effort to reply to comments! You’re a gentleman and a scholar!😊
I try
I love those old Ford trucks. Every one I've had has just been unbelievably dependable. Nice that someone showed her a little love and took good care of it.
Well said!
You stole that for $2500.
Exactamundo the bed is worth twice that!
I was literally thinking the same thing, Mortske must’ve worn a mask when he went to snag that thing. LOL.
Call da cops😅😅
these are like 40k in canada in good shape and workin condition, low miles to, worth a fortune here, such a clean rig
@@ShawnT_1JZ Yeah people are paying top dollar and fixing them up - new ones are ridiculously over priced right now. My nephew bought a 4x4 Dodge to haul his 5th wheel - 80 grand! Eighty thousand dollars for a freakin' Dodge truck.
Duff, Mortske, And Bernie......On a beautiful morning. Just missing Chin and Mojo. Nice video.
Thanks for sharing your world with us.
-M-
Our pleasure!
Happy fathers day weekend to all your fathers in you tube world
Bernie is very cool . Old wreckers are alot of fun to work and play on .
I've said it before,I'm not a Ford Man but I would be honored to own Bernie. Nice rig!!!!
Holmes built the best wreckers, hands down!. They're legendary for what they can do, when doing a job and the front of the truck came off the ground that meant it was just starting to do work.
Bernie is definitely a keeper. The $2500 purchase price has to be the best return for the investment I have heard about in a long time. Back in the late 80's -- early 90's the Buick, Pontiac, GMC dealership here sold out to the Chevrolet, Oldsmobile dealership who sold off the old dealerships wreckers CHEAP because they were too old. They were both 49 GMC wreckers. A local gas station bought the smaller of the 2 and it was a beast of a workhorse... He used it to pull a charter bus out of the ditch in deep snow and a couple of weeks later, he pulled out a single axle propane delivery tanker truck in the same spot. Those old pre-1980 trucks like Bernie are more capable than modern ones if you were to put a wheel lift on them.
Thank you for keeping us entertained every week. Bernie is my favorite right now that you own
Our pleasure
Bernie and I have a lot in common. We can both carry a load, be reliable, easy to work with, have good grip and most importantly, born on the same year.
Bernie is sweet and thank you for calling it a wrecker! It's not a boom truck or a tow truck. She's a wrecker. My grandpa was an auto wrecker/scrap yard owner, too!
Cool
Hey you thank us but we thank you. Because there's people like me that the opportunity or the means to do the stuff you do so we get to watch you do it for me personally I have terminal cancer and you know I'm laid up a lot and watching your videos just helps it gives me an escape even just for a little while thank you for that from the bottom of my heart I truly mean it thank you and keep up what you doing because it helps other people thank you very much
Thank you for sharing your story! So many people hurting and have limited means to escape for thirty minutes or an hour. Best wishes for a doing what you can and making the most of it.
I want what morski that really appreciate what he does and it helps us out a lot it gets her mind off our problems even if there's just for a half hour to 2 hours it helps us out a lot
Means a lot to me when I hear our shenanigans help ppl out. Thank you!
Well it helps me a lot watching your videos let me escape to somewhere else for a while for just a little while I enjoy life again
I had a 58 F350, 352 4speed with a Holmes 440. Wore it out in the 80's and built a rollback out of the junkyard.....still in service, but I'm retired now due to poor health. SEMPER FORTIS
Bernie is a good ol boy. You got Bernie before I sùbbed, I think. Anywho, appreciated the tour of him. If you start a side hustle he’d like you better but it looks like you need him as much as he needs you.
I take a sip of my rum and coke for Mortske Repair. Keep making them and ill keep watching them
Mortske, Bernie is a Beast of a 74 F350 Tow Truck.. I would be Proud to own Her..
WOW what a steal ! I know you had to do work on it though. But I definitely think Bernie found his forever home with you ! You've been stoked about it since day 1 ! Thanks Mortske
Thanks for the video. I love the Bern!🐾🍺
Thanks for watching!
I love Bernie ! She's soooooo sweet !!
Actually, and I say this with respect, you work for us. You're a damn good employee! Keep up the good work.
Bernie is a unicorn and you desearve that rig. You treat bernie with the care nobody else would have for 2500 bucks. ✌️
1 day we'll get a mortski minute.About Duffaluffagus' origin story. One day
Yeah, Bernie's a dream. of all the wreckers I built, Fords have the nicest ride.
Thank you mortske! The second channel stuff has been extra gooder lately!! Of course the main channel content is always top notch as well
Glad you enjoy it!
I used to have a 1977 Ford F-100. I ran dual batteries in that thing. I was a volunteer firefighter, and the extra battery really helped when I was running code 3 with lights and Federal Q howling. The inner fender well will support the extra battery. I welded up some angle iron for a holder. It was easy, positive to positive and the negatives one grounded to the engine and the other one grounded to the body and engine
Mortske I'm Chevy all the way. But Bernie is a good looking truck. 👍👌🍺💯. A loyal Mortske subscriber for years and more to come. !!!!!
Right on
I've been here a while, and that was a sincere thank you. AND, thank you.👍
You are very welcome
You're not talking about 'your' tow truck, you're talking about 'our' tow truck, we are always along for the ride - and it is a good ride!
I lover Bernie, I am a Ford guy and I have a 75 F-150 that's been in the family since Aug of 1974 so it's almost 50. No rust on the cab but the bed floor is gone, 120k on the original engine which a 390 4bbl with a 3 speed auto. Engine and tranny are out right now because the rear main was leaking as well as the transmission seal, one day I will get it back on the road.
Your not rambling, it’s very cool and we’re happy for you.
Mortske's Channel is the funnest!
Thank you
Side note: my world is better knowing someone like you has a CZcams channel and I'm sure Duff loves it too
Wow I love the back story on it! I love those old trucks you can't beat them and you can't beat that old holmes wrecker body! You got a damn good deal on that truck
Your correct about the way the doors close so easy, they close Even better in the 67-73 Ford trucks.I just love the old Ford trucks
I’ve got a 1968 F100 with a 390 4V, great engines with tons of torque. I’ve had mine 23 years now.
Bernie is one awesome truck. I'm so glad that he has helped the shop so much. I received my Mortske "Dew" banner, high quality and stylish.
That is awesome!
I absolutely love Bernie! I am a Ford Man. But, I love to hear that engine run. Keystone baby!
I remember that truck in Watertown. Thanks for keeping it all the same. 😊
My pleasure!!
I’m loving the second channel stuff. It’s like main channel without the “stress”. Bernie is probably my favorite truck you have. Loving everything about this video. ❤
Hats off the Bernie.
Bernie is definitely my favorite out of all of them ❤
Long live Bernie!
And thank you for all the great videos that you make for us and making Mondays a tiny bit better!! See Mortske you're not always grumpy lol
Our pleasure!
Sir you should be proud. I know people who have met you and they say that you are just a regular guy who is still amazed that people want you to sign something for them on meet and greets. (Somebody should just get over themselves!) When you came down here to Texas I was on my way and things went south. I live in Waco now so y'all weren't far but my truck decided differently. 2012 RAM with a hemi 42,000 I don't drive it much it did a hiccup and that was that. I should have taken the Caliber 243,000 miles and runs like brand new. I bought that car totalled fixed it and then got totalled again! First the front then rear quarter. They hit me so hard it bent everything underneath. I don't know what to call all that crap because I went to Byot (junkyard) to get it but the whole thing got shifted 3" from passenger to driver. I fixed it with hand tools and a tape measure. Except that the bumper cover is eggshell white and the rest is brilliant white I think it looks ok.👍 I love the channel and people say whatever. You are putting out awesome content and if they don't like it they complain about it. They are empty shot's from armchair mechanics. But ask them this have they ever replaced a water pump on a 3.5 Nissan? I have and I would rather be burnt at the stake 🔥
As my grandpa was a tow truck operator and owner of his own business this hits home he had a f600 I believe with a Holmes wrecker of that era
Cool
This is my favorite vehicle on the channel
Awesome work Mortske!! Bernie is a star & you are a great pair 🥳🥳👍👍🥹
Good job on the F27 group size battery! I put the correct one in my 1974 f100 🏴☠️
we all love you and the duffster.thank you !!
Thank you too!
That is one sweet tow truck! Amazing condition and it's in great hands! Thanks Mortske!
It sure is!
Just bought a hat brother! I love your channels and look forward to every Monday morning. You, Chin, and Mojo all do a really good job for Duff!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Love Bernie! If you get tired of him ship him to me in Tennessee! Lol
Great video Mort, Love the history on Bernie. I did not realize that truck was that old. Awesome shape.
Thanks!
Damn, you got the deal of a lifetime on Ol' Bernie! I love that Tow Truck! 😁👍
Sure did!
Yes Bernie is the best I always love old tow truck. Just take good care of him Bernie and he will take of you to.
Love me a 70s Ford truck. Learned to drive with a 72 F250 farm truck. Maybe someday I will run across my Bernie.
Mortske, you and Puddin make Mondays tolerable.
Thank you
That old Ford is really nice. Can't wait to see the next project on Monday. Have a great weekend.
Thanks 👍
Even though the material is a wee bit primitive I do really enjoy the videos. Back to the basics is always welcome. The Bernie tow truck is the coolest piece you have. Twin boom!
Right on
you scored on Bernie!!! even has the chicken chasers!rock on !!
Good evening from Cape Cod ⛵ I love Bernie, this truck had to have been the deal of the century. A buddy of mine had a body shop and had a 74 Ford wrecker. It started to knock so he rented a U-Haul and swapped engines, brought U-Haul back knocking 😂 I've never been one for hanging around watching television and or movies. Due to health issues is the reason I started watching CZcams videos, before this I didn't even know they existed. I appreciate the hard work and dedication you put into your videos Sir Mordicus. I wish I could buy merch but I'm lucky to even have this phone. Keep up the great work and the awesome content 👍✌️🇺🇲
Thanks for sharing!
Appreciate your appreciation of your viewers and the fine rigs you've accumulated - we're happy to join you on this surprising journey, thanks for the hard work.
Thanks again!
That brings back memories . I learned how to tow with a 1976 ford 1 ton 360 4spd. 2 wheel drive . When it finally rusted out the shop owner bought a new 1988 chev 1 ton . I was the on call driver for almost 10 years . Summer was easy , but being in Minnesota winter was interesting . I would work the day shift as a mechanic and then when bad weather hit i would go home and sleep until the shop closed and then get in the truck . I got half of whatever i made towing after hours . I kind of miss those days . And yes , that old ford was better than the chevy .
For a 50 year old truck? It’s so nice!!
Holmes wrecker equipment is the best hands down!
Awesome video... Bernie definitely deserved a little camera time. Even though it needed a little work,
you scored for $2500. You would probably never find another 74 that is that clean, especially for that price.
It's really cool that you are able to do the you tube thing, buying and selling, and getting old beaters running again,
instead of having an 8-5 working for someone else. Congrats...
Thanks
I love that truck I drove one just like that for years only difference it was black and the most reliable truck I ever drove the newer they got the less reliable they got
My Old Man ran Holmes wreckers in the Australian army in the '60's and then in the '70's built and used some in heavy vehicle recovery. He reckoned he could get anything out of anywhere with them.
Cool
What can we say? We luv ya, Mortske! You're our favorite curmudgeon!
Wonderful to see a commercial truck in such amazing condition after 50 years, quite a find! My father had a custom truck body, equipment, and semi trailer business in the 70's-90's and worked on and sold Fruehauf semi trailers. Fruehauf was the big player with a history of producing unique truck equipment and bodies. I am thinking the wrecker body may have been built by Fruehauf to Holmes specs and outfitted by Holmes with their wrecker equipment, but??? Not uncommon in the truck equipment business for specialty designs. Also, dad had a 1975 F150 Custom "family shop truck" that we had for 20+ years. My brother and sister and I eventually learned to drive on that truck and remember well that dash! I remember doing bodywork and prepping it for paint at the shop at one point later in its life. Thanks for the father's day memory. Hope Duff opens some hoods for you on Fathers Day.
Could be!
LOVE that Bernie
Bernie is awesome. Funny story my uncle owned a salvage yard in mn his name was Bernie lol he had some old wreckers lol
Bernie reminds me of my gas station days good times Tom cat at Bow Ties and Rice keep working Bernie tom
Go Bernie,Go ❤LoveJim J&R mobile service and God Bless y'all and your critters
Mortski we know you Chin appreciate your fans. Just by the dedication you put in your content. When is that blower motor going to be put in something.
Hi Bernie, pleasure!
I was glad to see you step out on your own. Now two channels! I hope Puddin steered you in that direction. He’s just a man with a no quit work ethic and goofy accent.
Mortske, we are blessed to have you too!
Thank you
What a deal I liked the 480s when my friend Vincent had his 480 I pulled so many engines out of cars for people that's the best thing about twin swing out booms my friend had every type of wrecker there is he had a centerfold flat bed the Fram would fold in the center like a pyramid. It was crazÿ
Thanks for finally doing a video on Bernie! Good rig right there. Keep up the great work 👌🏼
You bet
It's so funny cause MOJO is like chevy only, he probably says ohh I gotta drive the junk when you tell him to use Bernie 😂. I love that thing!
Absolutely
One sweet truck. You got to convince the Pott County madman to get one himself.
Great old rig! Really fits your operation well.. I wonder if Mojo thinks "Why is he calling that tow rig old?" 😂
those Ernest Holmes wreckers are no joke-I've spent many happy hours pulling winch cable on a 750 lattice boom. Shay Trucks, Dansville NY. I have the original manual for it still and sales tag
Remember,,,,,, when starting a cold engine on a 70's vehicle,,,,, You need to pump the throttle pedal one time,,,,, this gives a shot of fuel into the intake,, and most importantly,,,, sets the choke plate on the carburetor to the closed position,, Oh ya,,, when you were just sitting there cranking it,,,, It sounded like you had one cylinder with low compression,,,, I think a video of you addressing this issue would make for great content,,, My dad's company had several 74 fords,,, They were great to drive and almost maintenance free,,,, Have you ever used the SiriusXM radio service ??,,, In urban locations with sporadic reception, it is unbeatable,,, and very affordable,,,, The receiver itself can be moved from vehicle to vehicle, or in your shop or home,, Just add the necessary number of docking ports,, I have one dock that is shaped like a boom box and can take it anywhere that has AC,, (too expensive to keep D cell batteries in it,, :-)
Been hanging around Puddin too much, getting all emotional, lol😂😂. J/k. Been watching you since the beginning, dig the vids, dig the vast knowledge of the Mojo. You keep making them, I’ll keep watching.
Thanks for all the content!!!
Our pleasure
Bernie is a keeper. Nice truck.
Bernie is a Bad ass 👍
Bernie is a real looker Clark!!!!! Having a 68 F250 and a 72 F100 I have loved Bernie since you first got it...... About time you gave Bernie a dedicated video.
