This is Tower 22 a US military base located in the far north eastern corner of the country Jordan where In the early morning hours On January 28th 2024 an enemy drone attack killed 3 American soldiers and injured approximately 40 others. Hezbollah in Iraq carried at the strikes on behalf of Iran. Iran's proxies are known for this kind of attack. Could events escalate in the middle east now into a wider regional war?

But Why is the US military in Jordan in the first place? What went wrong that this attack was able to be pulled off? Was the US military’s retaliation effective at stopping the enemy? This episode has everything you need to know about the unfolding crisis in the middle east. The United States and Jordan actually have a pretty tight bilateral relationship for over 70 years now. Their warm and fuzzy allows for 3,000 total US troops stationed to be here. From Jordans perspective the benefit is that the U.S. has provided them with more than $20 billion in assistance Since 1951. That money has been used to fully renovate 25 hospitals and most recently 12 black hawk helicopters which are very useful in counter terror missions.

Now, If we put on our strategic thinking hat these troops are important partly because of a single base called the Al-Tanf base largely made up of 200 high speed special operators. It isn’t even located in Jordan but instead just across the fence over in Syria. Al-Tanf garrison is pretty much the only thing standing in the way of Iran having a straight shot, clear supply route to funnel weapons through Iraq through Syria and then into Hezbollah in Lebanon. It’s located right on the Baghdad-Damascus highway and according to the Brookings Institution it “denies Iran one of the three potential land-bridge routes between Iran and the Mediterranean.” And so from the perspective of Iran and its proxies they very much do not want Al-tanf base or Tower 22 standing in their way.

Sponsored by Raytheon?!?!! You have officially been promoted to slightly above average infantryman!

I've been following the channel for a while and I am so proud of how far you have come. 😊
I'm not sure who the sponsorship would be targeting. Certainly not me, though I'd be flattered if anyone thought my budget had the space for air defence capabilities.

That's why we train like we fight. Roger? Think that about covers it for my ramp briefing on over used buzz words ending time now Lima Charlie?
😅
Kinetic energy is amazing thing. As a young airmen I saw a simple counter for reactive armor: inert AGM-65 Maverick missiles. An 80 pound concrete warhead slamming into a tank at super sonic speeds is more devastating than most of our other anti-tank weapons. It's absolutely incredible to see.
Won't penetrate tank armor. It will ring the crews bell, but won't penetrate crew space
@@theccpisaparasite8813 it destroys tanks to the point that crew can no longer occupy it, and knock the turret off. It doesn't have to penetrate when it's hitting with that kind of force. I've seen it with my own eyes, it's an incredible sight. One off many I was fortunate enough to see as an EOD tech that primarily worked on test ranges when not deployed, and after my enlistment, as a DoD contractor.
We supported a squadron of A-10's that would fly in monthly to qualify on the AGM-65. They would start with inert missiles on the first day or two, and then move on to live missiles on the following days. It got to the point that they got bored with tank and armored vehicle targets and they built them a city of mock buildings out of shipping containers. Now that was an interesting post test clearance.
@@spellegren 80 lb of concrete at ballistic speeds means every once of energy from the congcrete is transfered because it is dead weight with no deflection. That could be enough to damage sensors and possibly turret traverse.
Yeah they are trying to create kinetic energy only projectiles to launch from far away just because of how devastating they can be, but they cannot quite figure out the aim which must be perfect and account for all environmental factors (and more I'm sure)

Dec 7 1941. Japanese attack came in, by accident, at the time and on the same bearing as a flight of B-17s. The radar picked up the Japanese attack but thought it was the B-17 flight and did not sound an alarm.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
What I thought as well
Was my first though too! lol! Exactly as you say, same old story.
book rec: the roswell deception and the de mystification of world war two.....douglas deitrich
chapter 8 all proof you need
The Americans had broken the Japanese diplomatic code as early as 1937, but the most important thing was the fact that the Americans, once they found out the Japanese were going to attack, decided that they were going to hold an ambush. The code breakers knew the Japanese attack was going to come in three waves. The first wave was when the Japanese would initialize the attack and bomb the ships in the harbor. The second wave targeted the airfields. As the Americans knew the codes, they were fully expecting these attacks. The third wave, however, never happened and that completely undermined the Americans’ plan for an ambush. I will explain.
What is generally believed about the Pearl Harbor attack was that most of the fleet was in the harbor like sitting ducks, save for the Navy’s aircraft carriers. What is not realized is that the ships at Pearl Harbor were all very old World War I dreadnoughts that were not about to survive another war. The Americans were planning on scuttling them anyway, and they figured that the Japanese would be doing them a favor by sinking them. For that reason, and quite oddly, they were literally chained right next to each other at anchor. The Americans also crudely modified an old battleship, the USS Utah, to appear to be a carrier. This was a pure decoy to draw the Japanese in. As soon as the Japanese would attack at dawn, the Americans were planning to come in like the cavalry in a cowboy movie and they would rescue the men under attack. Although it was a deliberate set-up, the Americans did not expect to get caught with their pants down; and unable to respond to a third attack that never materialized, this is exactly what happened.
cont....
They knew the attack was coming, but didn't stop it because it would have tipped the Japanese off to our intel.
The radar technicians actually didn’t think it was B-17’s. I think I remember reading a quote like it was the largest blips one of them had ever seen on the screens but an officer who was extremely green Convinced them otherwise that it was the B-17’s coming from the mainland. If you think about its kind of hard to confuse 500 small planes for 25 to 50 large ones. Even in those days. HIndsight is 20/20.
Brilliant, I've been looking for a low cost way to deal with all these drones and now I've finally found the product

Hehehehehehe, that just lets you know what other countries don't like to admit, it's not quantity, it's quality babeee. Weapons systems that make the enemy go "what the fuck dude..that's not even fair"
America’s military is also huge and has a global foot print. When you have hundreds of small bases like the one above all over the world, all of a sudden your budget isn’t looking so good.
Same issue with other countries and their militaries. Stuff is so expensive these days that even paying tens of billions doesn’t guarantee you saturation.
For instance, Australia is buying nuclear submarine technology and creating a new nuclear submarine with the UK and US. This will cost them around AU$386 billion (around US$260billion) but will only get them 8 submarines.

When Trump ordered the hit on Soleimani, Iran decided to chill for MONTHS afterward. Biden's boss, the Tan Messiah (Obama) is running this show and he hates Israel.
