Nice response Dale..Love Never For Ever, interesting to see that Tom Waits and the homage to In The Wee Small Hours, wasn't aware of that.
    Some lovely illustrated sleeves there.
Was just thinking this morning, its' been a while since i've done a thread video, so may jump on board.

Excellent response Dale. Just love those Clay Pipe album covers (though don't own anything on the label (as yet)). Always loved that Jim Fitzpatrick cover for Thin Lizzy. Cheers... Pete

Thanks Pete, I listened to a podcast that Frances Castle did recently and discovered all of the artwork is 'digitally' painted - I now know why no original painting have come-up for sale...

Hi Dale - Love the cover with the fox, but these are all ready great. I am so used to that Kate Bush cover, I kind of forgot how great it really is.

Interesting angle to take on this thread. I’ve always liked Joni Mitchell’s cover designs.
Never knew that Spitting Image / Hendrix connection.

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 10 měsíci +1

Hi John - I only stumbled upon the connection after selecting the albums and then trying to find something about some of the artists I didn't know. I think he only ever did two covers - Axis and The Who Sell Out...

When I saw this thread, I thought to myself Dale will have some great album covers from your lesser known labels. You showed some excellent ones Dale. The Yardbirds album has always tickled me because I use to play with a Bass player for years whose name was Roger and he was indeed an Engineer by profession. It doesn’t take much to amuse me 😂 I didn’t know the Hendrix/ spitting Image connection. El Goodo looks and sounds interesting. Mike

Hi Mike - I'm sure Roger loved the joke too...😊 El Good is worth a listen...cheers Dale

Nice selection Dale I think I might do this thread, it’s a good one from Rob. Matt Berry is sickeningly talented isn’t he? What we do in the shadows might be my favourite tv show. I have a few of his albums (but not the one you showed) including his TV Themes album, which is a real trip down memory lane for people our sort of age isn’t it. Take care cheers

Just watched your response of nice blues covers...Yes Matt Berry is too talented, TV Themes is really enjoyable. I've dabbled with What we do in the Shadows and enjoyed what I saw - I really should watch more...cheers Dale

Hey! I'd never noticed the similarity between the covers of Waits' The Heart of Saturday Night and Sinatra's In The Wee Small Hours. I must be blind!
My Mum had an illustrated story book called Ratsmagic, which had freaky odd artwork by an artist called Wayne Anderson. Years later when I saw the cover to Kate Bush's Never For Ever, I assumed it was by the same artist, as its style was so similar. But no, it's not the same artist.
Ratsmagic was first published in 1976. I'd be surprised if Nick Price hadn't seen the book.
    Cheers - Hedley

Hi Hedley - not aware of Wayne Anderson but will do a search as love the artwork on the album...although my beloved Kate wouldn't get involved in anything underhand...

@@gatefold33 Sorry, I didn't mean to besmirch the saintly Bush. I certainly don't want to anger her crowd, they're even more rabidly cuckoo than the average Prog Rock lunatic.

I need to try that Matt Berry one because out of sympathy because I'm not the insomniac rather my other half is. Also I'm looking for a nice copy of spitting image spit in your ear album i used to have it and know most of it off by heart. Hilarious (if totally dated) not so fussed about that Jimi Hendrix bloke one. All that repetitive hare hare nonsense.

I'm not sure the Matt Berry record does exactly what it says on the tin but it is quite mellow. I think he recorded or wrote it when he was suffering from insomnia...
