A growing body of evidence indicates that moringin, an isothiocyanate compound derived from moringa, may help prevent or even treat a variety of chronic health conditions, including cancer, diabetes, and autism. In this clip, Dr. Jed Fahey discusses the beneficial health effects of moringa.

I am from the South of India in a state called Tamil Nadu. We use all edible parts of Moringa(Murungai)- the leaves, the Fruit pods which is simply called as Drumstick locally - in our cuisine and it had been a part of the culture for more than 2000 years, well documented in Sangam Literature. It is so good to see this plant getting recognised worldwide.

so, there are a few possibilities here. First off, wherever your moringa grew could have had contaminated soil, or the product could have been contaminated so it could be a matter of brand, or you may have a sensitivity to moringa itself or two teaspoons may be above your tolerance level or it could be moringa and something else in your smoothie combining. For example some vitamins at certain levels can become laxative.

We eat a lot of Malungay(aka moringa) in Hawaii, practically every other house has this growing in their yard brought over from Filipinos in the 1800s. No here ever gets sick from eating it but it depends what part of the plant is being consumed. If a pharmaceutical company is just grinding up the whole plant, which is pretty much what happens, that’s not how the plant is meant to be consumed. You pretty much only consume the baby leaves and aren’t supposed to eat the stems or seeds. Seeds are consumed only in very specific situations for specific ailments. The sap that the tree produces is also useful but not for consumption which is in the thicker stems. So I suspect all these cases are due to bad quality control from production.

I've read from one very reliable source that Moringa leaves are high in oxalates. I haven't confirmed it (yet) by looking up multiple sources, but I think it's wise to be cautious about it. Oxalates can worsen a lot of long term health problems, well beyond just kidney stones. It can happen insidiously, sometimes occurring silently (without symptoms) over many years. It's a complicated subject. Sally K. Norton's book "Toxic Superfoods", which was published in January 2023, covers the dangers of Oxalates thoroughly and comprehensively. I recommend watching some of Sally K's CZcams videos, and browsing her website, which is a good source information about all things oxalate (a.k.a. Oxalic Acid), one of the worst plant anti-nutrients. Although lectins and phytates can be pretty bad too, depending on the individual person.

Thanks for this... but can we get some unequivocal qualification on the whole heat / cold thing. Is the myrosinase heat stable with moringa?
I live in the tropics and out of caution I cold steep my moringa tea and eat my leaves cold. Dr. Jed says we can consume moringa hot, unlike broccoli (sulphoraphane / glucoraphanin). Is this actually so?

Moringa leaves are drumstick leaves. Drumstick is an aphrodisiac. These have been used in Ayurveda for so long. What the hell is this Jack? Tomorrow we will have another panacea.

Broccoli sprouts don't have near the Heath benefits as Moringa Olifira. And without oxalate damage anywhere in the Body.
