I’m missing Cloud Nine too. Great find! Sherv sent me a decent reissue of Johnny the Fox after I said I was missing it in a video. VMP did a reissue of Veedon Fleece, but I don’t think there have been any others - if any. Frank’s Wild Years is great! Excellent showing, John. ✌🏻
Hey Jon. You can’t beat a bit of Thin Lizzy. I still maintain that Phil Lynott was the coolest rock star EVER! All other rock stars are just pretenders in comparison. The only rock star that looked good in leather trousers. Leather trousers are not something that should be messed with if your name isn’t Phil Lynott.
Great finds there. Especially the two reggae singles in homemade sleeves. Great Van Morrison scores. Veedon Fleece goes for a bit more. I've still not found a decent copy yet. We are very thin on the ground for car boots around here and my local shop has suddenly shut down. Heading to Bristol in the summer to hit Wanted Records for reggae and a few others. Have a nice bank holiday weekend. Cheers, Steve.
Hey Steve. Sorry to hear that your local shop has closed. That’s a real bummer. I knew most of the Van albums that I picked up but has never heard Veedon Fleece before. I give it a few more spins this week. As you’d expect, I’m going through a real Van phase at the moment. No Guru is the one that’s currently stuck to the turntable. That one has really hit the mark. Hope you’re having a good weekend. Cheers! John
@@6inchpianist No guru is especially good - I have that one on record. I have to be in the mood for Van. Sorted all my records out yesterday - having a slight purge - mainly folk stuff and doubles. Mad what you forget is hiding in there. I found two Teardrop Explodes albums I never knew I had!
This is awesome. Love the needle drops. I still need to find a copy of Oh Mercy. I really like Beautiful Vision but I think I'm going to have to re-listen to No Guru... based on your description. I think I discounted it.
Hi Brian. Yes, go back to No Guru to see what you think. Play it alongside Astral Weeks and tell me if I’m talking absolute no essence 😀. I think the two work really well together. Cheers! John
Bad reputation sounding brilliant! Great records found - i remember checking out Veedon Fleece after Jeff Party recommended it. Great delivery and no nonsense 👍
Hey Johnny. Yeah, I remember Jeff talking about it. It’s really hard to find here though. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a decent copy before. Enjoying it now though. Cheers! John
Stellar update John, you got some real gems there. I love Van's new age phrase, particularly 'Inarticulate Speech of the Heart' which has become a real go-to over the last year or so. I find the production style and the songwriting very comforting. Veedon Fleece is impossible to find in the UK these days (I only have it because Jeff Party sent me a copy a few years back). I've still never heard No Guru. We went to Wimborne a few years ago, nice place. It's where Robert Fripp and Toyah live.
I’ve never heard Inarticulate Speech Of The Heart. I’ll keep an eye out for that one. I go through a Van phase every couple of years. I don’t think you can go wrong with his 70’s and 80’s records. No Guru is the one that I’ve been really enjoying but I’ve been going back to some of his great RnB records like Too Late To Stop Now. Gonna give Moondance a spin this afternoon. An obvious choice but certainly one of his best.
Great vid as usual, I was trying to spot the record you were playing in the background (not the needle drops) it sounded kinda jazz/funkyish and took me back to my youth and made me want to get some Ronnie Laws on the turntable 👍🏼
Hey John. The track in the background was Atmosfear’s “Dancing In Outer Space”. Great tune! Although you’ve made me wanna listen to some Ronnie Laws now 👍
Lovely scores John. That Temptations LP is absolutely insane. Great pick for the price. I love the Basement Tapes. Essential Dylan really. Frank's Wild Years is a personal TW fave. Great part of his 80's trilogy. Veedon Fleece is one of Van's best. Kinda overlooked IMO.
Hey Fred. How’s it going? I went through a stage of playing the Basement Tapes repeatedly about 25 years ago. I haven’t really gone back to it since then, but finding a vinyl copy has sent me down that Dylan path all over again. As you say, Essential Dylan. Cheers!
Bad Reputation might be my favourite Lizzy album. I'm also on the look out for a nice clean copy of Cloud Nine. Hmmm Wimborne car boot might be tempting but a bit far (Dorset not Hampshire...). Nice scores John, I've had mixed results recently. Cheers Dale
Hi Dale. We were staying in Hampshire. Didn’t realise I’d ventured into another county whilst searching for records at some ungodly hour. I don’t think there is such a thing as a clean copy of Cloud Nine. They’re always very slightly grubby. Great album though 👌
0545 average getting to a car boot for the good stuff? I really like VM's Common One. It has all the elements I don't like, saxophone, new age, rambling waffle and mumbling but somehow it all comes together and works. Nice stories about your teenage past and finding memories in records.
I spotted a Laurel Aitken 45 during that video, what a great stack of reggae 45’s I also love all the different labels, my favourite is digging up reggae 12 inch singles especially stuff on the Joe Gibbs label
Hey Dean. Yeah, the Joe Gibbs label is always a sign of quality. Reggae 12”s always sound great for some reason, even if the condition is a bit rough. It must be the bass that cuts through the surface noise. Cheers! John
@@6inchpianist Absolutely, just went to a record show yesterday, didn’t find any reggae unfortunately but did find James Brown’s Bodyheat album damn for a tenner damn that’s funky
Hey Nick. I appreciate the records here aren’t your kinda thing. You never know though. That’s the randomness of a car boot. Hope you’re doing ok. Take care. Cheers! John
@@6inchpianist Yep...doing ok thanks. If you think about it there's also a lot of luck involved etc... and a lot of trawling through the crap to get to the good stuff. Keep it up mate 👍
Nice! My season started last Sunday. Didn't get a single thing though. Hopefully I'll have better luck tomorrow. I'd love to see what you do to clean up singles like that up John. In my experience, 45s can be really beat up and filthy. What are your methods? Bad Reputation, that was one of my early pick ups too, also from a boot sale in about 1986. I felt quite intimidated by it for years until I dug deeper into hard rock. Great stuff mate. Cheers
Hey John. I reckon I bought Bad Reputation in 1986 too. We were probably discovering the wonder that is Thin Lizzy around the same time. Did you go to a car boot yesterday? Find much?
@@6inchpianist It poured with rain here yesterday John, so no I didn't, but I've just realized that it's Bank Holliday Monday and the Boot Sale is on again today... fingers crossed!
Thin Lizzy, Tom Waits , Reggae and the Temptations I think you need to spread out a little😊. Never see reggae singles in the US. We don't have car boot sales here prefer to use them for dumping bodies. Great stuff
Hi Jeff. Unfortunately, in the U.K. our car boots aren’t big enough to fit a dead body so we fill them with junk to sell at car boot sales instead. Cheers!
John, nice selection. Can you let me know what the tune is you’re playing in the background. Doing my head in......I recognise it but can’t quite place it. Sounds like it should belong on the “Midnight Express” soundtrack. All the best. Regards from Brighton. Tintin
