JUST FYI (and corrections) this video was NOT sponsored by DJI in anyway and I personally bought both units. ALSO! It seems the usb c does charge the unit when connected as we exam but at 100 it gives no indication of power connected so I was a little misguided there. Also YES headphones to usbC adapter works for checking audio And The DJI Lav kits do work when the receiver is plugged into the handle but the mics don’t transmit direct to the handle with out the receiver

Well you have to take into account what the video is really for. If it’s for their channel and they are just creating more entertainment content for their Audience then that’s what you get right? If it’s marketing for a brand. That what you get. And I do the launch videos on Adorama we try to jsut lay out the facts for people to make their own decisions. In this case I personally bought and own these so how hard is it for me to hold them together for a day and throw out sample footage 🤷♂️

Not sure honestly but downloading from the card to a computer via a cable is super quick and easy. I don’t transfer much video to my phone I use the pockets to gather clips all day then edit on a MacBook or PC later

Yea I mean shooting 10bit log is a huge difference when grading the footage this was all ungraded
@@LastXwitness yea I got that. I’m just saying the difference in the starting image, you can obviously see the huge difference in dynamic range which means it’ll be a cleaner conversion to rec709 and color grading further.
Great video Seth. Love that the 1' sensor on the 3 held up nicely from the various locations. The image stabilization on both was butter as you were walking through the city and on the stairs in the subway. Great comparison video and review.

Your video just showed me how good the Pocket 2 is already! I had the Pocket 2 and sent it back, because at this time it made more sense to buy a GoPro with MediaMod. But I kept in my mind that there will be a Pocket 3 coming out soon. Now about 5 month later the Pocket 3 is out... all videos say omg it is so so good, the best ever bla bla.. sponsored.
Your video just showed me how GOOD the Pocket 2 is already and yes I do like that the Pocket 3 is bigger... but!! that's the magic about the Pocket 2... that you can now buy for 200 Euro used in ebay, which is nothing. So I might just buy the Pocket 2 used for 200 bucks and add it to the GoPro. Then I have two great cameras. One for action and POV and one for "normal" recordings.
Also have pocket 2 creator's combo and hero 10 with media mod and max lens mod for the same reason (2 scenarios).. And was waiting for pocket 2 update but seems advantages of new camera are not so obvious.. excepting low light, where 3 shows outstanding performance

Great video. Question - I noticed that even with the bigger sensor in pocket 3, it's still like the pocket 2 that doesn't generate the professional looking shallow depth of field and bokeh effect for the background. Is that your experience using it too? Thanks.
Well 1. The idea of a larger sensor creating a shallower look is a bit of a misconception it’s really usually about our distance of subject to lens which can change if the sensor is bigger we tend to step closer for framing. But I’m going down a rabbit hole here. 2. Technically the pocket 2 has a shallower lens at f1.8 Vs the f2 on pocket 3 but if you look close you can see at the same distance from me long arming both cameras. The buildings behind me in the talking part seem softer than with the pocket 2 to also around @13:20 or so you see behind me getting softer as I exit the train and walk keep an eye on the security guard on the left of frame behind me. It’s not much but it’s there

Ehhh honestly I don’t think it’s aiming to do that. When yourself filming it’s usually a better idea to have more depth of field than less so you can have more frame in focus becusse it’s really about what you’re doing,where you are and what/who you’re interacting with as opposed to isolating the subject with techniques like shallow depth of field. The frame is about everything that’s going on not just you really. Does that make sense?
Great overview Seth, one question since you tested it as a webcam, what log profile or color profiles can you use during the webcam stream?
It goes to a default color at 30fps so I don’t see log happening with that

I have an ageing pocket 2 and have really enjoyed it. You can certainly see the difference the 1" sensor makes as regards exposure latitude, blue sky v no sky in your opening shots. Given all the extra flexibility and ease of use, this looks like a real upgrade from the pocket 2 .

Awesome video! with the screen problems on Pocket 3 I am not sure if I should buy the 2 or the 3. The 3 in the opening of your video looks like you are underexposed and obviously therefore the bluesky, in the 2 you are correctly exposed and therefere blownout sky, am I wrong?
Sure it’s compensating for the sky exposure wise and I shot this backlit for that reason to see the difference BUT you have to realize this is also LOG footage on the 3 which means way more leeway to push around the exposure in post so at least the information is there in the file for you to grade with as opposed to nuclear blown out not recoverable
Question ? With the extended battery handle, could you plug it into the Pocket 3 to juice the Pocket 3 up… and then remove the handle to recharge? Like Hot Swappable.
Or does it have to stay on the whole time.
So far it seems to charge the unit and yea hot swappable

Useful and also brave of you to leave the two flat color profiles ungraded (and risking those who don't know what it is being disappointed by flat colors they see).
I own the Pocket 3 since yesterday, and I can say shooting in D-Log M is an absolute must to get the most out of the camera, especially when vlogging if you're a fair-skinned person who doesn't want washed-out flat facial tones (with the normal color profile, the camera tends to do that). With the free LUT offered by DJI applied in post, you can achieve excellent results out of the box.
Yea thank you I have received some really ignorant and laughably angry comments about this from people who don’t understand log or want to be bothered to grade but I felt it important to show what the most you’d get out of camera to work with (especially since you’re going to edit anyways) also who says what I grade it to is what someone else would want? Weird question but does the pocket 2 wireless mic connect to the pocket 3? Only asking because i have the 2 and want the 3 but if it connects i wont sell the old wireless mic, I'll just sell the camera.

Thank you so much for that excellent comparison and the valuable condensed information. I wonder if DJI fixed that flicker issue the pocket 2 had now with the pocket 3? There is a lot about this on DJIforum and examples here are on YT. I had it also in certain circumstances with my pocket 2, don't know if any user had that problem. Otherwise the pocket 2 is a fantastic camera.
Well there is anti flicker functions but I personally havnt had issues too much but I probably just havnt found that environmental ambient or paid attention to it

Well this was on all auto but since it’s Log format on the 3 you have more ability to push around the file in editing I definitely see more dynamic range
Nice side by side comparison. Overall the Pocket 3 hase more advanced image quality over the Pocket 2. But in some rare conditions in your video the sky was a bit washed out on the Pocket 3. Looked better on Pocket 2. Also in some low-light conditions the low lightscenario got a bit lost on the Pocket 3. I mean to see some under exposed Items in the image makes a low light shot more looking like its dark. With the bigger sensor this feeling get a bit lost. The deeper field of view looks amazing. In my opinion the Pocket 2 is already an exciting camera and a direct upgrade to the 3 is not worth it. Also for beginners its nice because of an hopefully cheaper price tag. For all of the Maxi useres the Pocket 3 is the choise. Bad that the Pocket lineup is not water resistant so its not suitable for all kinds of action.
Its LOG which means most footage you feel is losing something to under or over exposure can be pull back and with 10bit color you have more information in the file with that as well. The pocket 2 is just d cine like it gives you room to grade but it’s still a processed image like a flat jpeg image almost. As far as water resistant it’s a micro gimbal … I think people are asking a lot of a robotic arm in the palm of your hand for $500. That aside I have already used mine in the rain 🤷♂️

Great head to head video. Thank you for the video. Agreed. Pocket 2 heats up no matter what. I did a studio video with a lot of light, allowing the auto iso to hit 200 iso and the pocket 2 still could boil an egg.
It’s processing a lot in that tiny stick It’s ok to get hot I’ve never had it really over heat on me

I tried the pocket 2 optional Lav with the 3 and it didn’t pair. The DJI 2 Lav set will only work with the receiver plugged into the usb c

Hi Seth, nice comparison. But one thing I want to know that the pocket 2 is overexposed in the background. Is it an issue or we can fix it? Bcz I'm thinking of getting the pocket 2 as pocket 3 is out of my budget 😅
It’s tough to recover highlights. With the pocket 2 not only is it a smaller sensor but you aren’t really shooting log footage with all that dynamic range to pull from. You’re shooting D Cine Like which is just a flat color profile more or less. On the 3 you can shoot actual log and push the exposure around a lot more later on

This was all In auto exposure/white balance. It’s not about the exposure it about the latitude of the sensor and the format it’ll let you record in. The pocket 3 just overall is capable of giving you more information in the image
Great comparison - still on the OG Pocket but definitely tempted by the low light prowess of the the 3! I did notice for the rooftop video that the 3 seemed to expose darker than the 2, but is that because the 2 was more blown out? Sorry if you have mentioned that in your video - I am more visual so sometimes my brain forgets to listen to the words when I concentrate on the video 😅
Yea they both tend to expose a little differently BUT the pocket 3 is Log video with 10bit color. You have a lot more latitude to adjust in post. Definitely more dynamic range as well

I use my Sony a600 as a webcam for streaming and it’s starting to struggle so the fact that I can use the pocket 3 with OBS with face tracking.. yeah it’s worth it!! Thanks you so much for this review!!

Interesting stuff! I'm still on the original Osmo Pocket which does what I need for the little I use it for. The 3 looks like a great upgrade - it sounds like DJI have been listening! It's not something I can justify dropping £500 on but it seems like a pretty compelling choice for those who will get the use out of it.

It’s def a legit upgrade and is answering a lot of concerns from the previous
Pocket 3 looks professional. Plus you get the low light improvement and a much better mic. Only downside is it is bigger and heavier, but still much more discreet than any other camera. Pocket 2 is still cool for the ultimate portability and decent image though.
Both footage look fantastic for what they are. The Pocket 3 you can definitely see more dynamic range there. The B-roll at 13:33 if you look at the security guard behind you, you can see there's more depth of field there for sure. Something I noticed right away in that shot. Knowing what you know about where cameras, in general, struggle in everyday life, where did you see this struggle the most? And did they both still struggle there? I liked the cine skin tones better, but that's to be expected given that it's not Log footage. I felt like the Cine was warmer, naturally, SOOC. Did you feel the same way?
The d cine footage is jsut kinda flat for color grading later but the log actually has more range to edit with so I feel you can make it look better or more how you’d want with the extra latitude. The cameras kinda have a mind of their own so there’s a learning curve to get used to them if you don’t have experience with gimbals or things like this but that said I still think anyone can jsut power it on and get going pretty quick

No real struggle just sometimes you gotta remember you have it set to face detect and it only going to point at you when you want to pan over to something. Or remembering that when it’s facing you the pan head joystick is opposite of your intuition and stuff like that but I think overall it’s a much simplified interface than the 2
@@LastXwitness Did you do any audio editing? The audio sounded pretty good with that Pocket 3 mic. Did you isolate your voice from the local ambient noise?
Slight bit on davinci yea but mainly because of cars honking non stop which you can still hear pretty much
Recharge time for the 3 is amazingly fast provided the power source is 45w plus and a good usb C cable is used. My travel bank recharged under 30mins. One downside is the tripod thread is not up to the tall camera and its weight esp with extended battery. And the expansion mount for a gpopro mount etc...not in stock worldwide yet the new wearable setting intends tgat use. Should have come in the full kit. Filters from the op or op2 dont fit

I must admit the pocket 2 seems crisper than the 3. I still the original pocket that came out and it seems to still hold up. Thanks for doing the video though, its gives a great comparison for those looking to upgrade.
I think part of that is the pocket 3 is log footage and you have more latitude in post but that flat out of the camera look leads to a “less crisp” look till you process it and see some edge contrast

Pocket 2 looks noticeable sharper in good light.
Well keep in mind it’s also a semi processed image on the pocket 2 as the Pocket 3 is flat Log lacking some edge contrast before color grading like any other Log format. Also if you look close yoh can see where depth of field has a more shallow effect in the pocket three which can add to the sharpness by comparison in the frame.

I don't have a gimbal so if I need a stabalized clip, I'll use my phone. I usually get away with it. The P3 looks a useful tool, Im waiting to see if Google's 'Video boost' service is worth waiting for on the Pixel 8 Pro. If its underwhelming I'll get a P3. I have a small ratrig slider that I do food clips with. If I can stick a P3 on it and track the product I can get some background movement.
I hear you but I’d rather be able to shoot log regardless and I find phones no matter what phone throw in a lot of computational junk that makes the image something I personally am not a fan of most cases.. it’s a tool I’ll use for sure but mainly becusse I always have a phone on me. The pocket is so small and convenient I end up using it a lot and if you’re watch my comic con video it really is like having a camera guy with me while I’m filming interviews and such
I got mine 2 days ago. And what I noticed is that HDR look. Compared to my Pocket 2 the picture looks kinda unnatural. Yes dynamic range is better, but look at your t-shirt in that video. Pocket 3 its gray, at the Pocket 2 its white. High dynamic range based on software comes at a price. I prefer less DR but natural colors. I really dont like this Smartphone look. I hope someday it will be possible to turn down that. But likely it will not.
Well remember this is also ungraded Log with that more DR and latitude you can have more room to adjust it how you want but st least the information is there for you to do it with including the 10bit color
P3 Exposure is very high
i don't understand why it's so easy to change the resolution on these. it caused me some headache before with mixed format footage. why would you ever need anything lower than native resolution? framerate i can understand, but it also should be tucked into the menus more. also it's too easy to end up being in photo mode. who takes photos with the pocket? panorama i can understand but that's hard to accidentally activate so it's good. i wish they'd let us use the entire sensor for video, 4 by 3 aspect ratio. 16:9 is such an arbritrary limitation
It’s a sub $600 unit aimed at a demographic that just wants to pull something out a shoot. Instead of seeing it being limited I see it as giving us options in a genres that’s usually limited by specs to get the cost down for mass appeal. I hear what you’re saying but it’s not a friction point for me Also open gate means more processing which means more heat and battery drain in a unit that already won’t last for long if you’re going to use it that heavy in which case this really into the tool for what you’re trying to achieve … also even at a 1” sensor its not exactly going to give you imax footage here haha at some point it is what it is and if it were any more expensive I’d get it but it’s still at or lower than most vlogging options out there
The biggest difference is when there is a lot of light or not much light

why D Cine like ? make them all auto and compare. that is what most of the people using.
Look in the comments most people that even compare footage are going to see what it looks like it settings whwre you get the most out of the camera to work with. You’ll be editing the footage anyways which means taking a few seconds to throw on a LUT if you’re not going to custom grade isn’t a huge leap. Someone jsut commented the exact opposite of what you’re saying infact

Yea but I do feel there’s more color information to work with in the pocket 3 so you might find you get more in a lot of situations including skin tones. Also ability to pull down highlights like the sky in all that light is very helpful if you care about that

@@LastXwitness The motors either work, or not. It's not good stabilization in Pocket 2 does this jitter. I watched others CZcamsrs videos and decided to wait till Pocket 3 will come out. I'm waiting for my order now. Pocket 3 looks more cinematic in your video.
It's a REALLY helpful...unbiased review .... In my opinion pocket 2 is value for money dynamic range is better in new pocket 3...I own a Sony Zve10 with Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and 11 mm Sony 1.8 lens combined with Zhiyun Crane M3 but Pocket 2 is mostly used, for filming most of the time because it is practical, and comfortable compared to the zve10 setup .....This is my video link entirely filmed with Dji pocket2: czcams.com/video/qZUQ3M2n9og/video.html
