This was a prediction for 2024 in 2023. Before anyone even remotely thought of anyone buying RED. The fact that they bought RED and have moved as fast as they have is Nikon IN cine. They have overnight acquired a user base and are smart enough not to disturb . Yea it’ll be a minute before hardware comes but this is Nikon in cine no doubt and considering RED has RF mount options they do have competitively priced cine options to the c400 that take that glass so we are in very interesting times

@@LastXwitness Seth’s posting is from 4 months ago (or so the listing says), and at present the Red line is not price competitive with the C400. The 6k sensors are S35 and by the time you add all the parts and pieces to catch up to the C400 feature set you’re easily north of $10k and with the Komodo X you’re quickly pushing $15k. And if you want Red in full frame, then you’re starting at $25k plus then the rigging and I/O and ND etc. So Nikon/Red have a lot of regrouping and repricing to do over the next couple of years.

Well hey I’m Seth and yea it was posted at the time of the red announcement of a clip from probably November or so.. anyways. Sure a camera that’s JUST now announced is going to have a leg up of anything that’s not been developed yet. Regardless there’s lower cost options in red. And yes you can go full frame vs super 35 or whatever you want. I’m just saying this is absolutely Nikon in cinema which is what I was stating would happen one way or another

@@LastXwitness I have 2 Z6IIIs and a Z9, so I’m pretty much all-in Nikon for stills and hybrid. But I’m still needing to add a show piece cine camera to the mix (as you know far better than me, above a certain price quote, the clients want to see/feel like they are getting their money’s worth). At the moment the C400 is my lead contender and I have a preorder in place, but the rumblings are growing about an FX9 replacement announcement soon which would at least allow me to adapt E glass onto my Z cameras if needed. But for now I don’t see Red as an alternative. Internal NDs are too convenient to pass up, plus the expensive build outs of Red boxes doesn’t seem cost competitive to me in this price bracket. Global shutter isn’t that important. And if I need to shoot at a level above that, then the first call is to a rental house.

ah and Lume Cubes tend to get very hot no? the barn doors not being black..meh.. sure but its whatever its not like its casting a color or doesnt block the light

They are really small and the heat needs to go somewhere. They get warm but never too got to touch. And yes the barn doors is really really really nitpicking since grey is fine and won't leave a cast. But I just hear Bicho's voice in the back of my head where he showed the difference in the light coming out from regular black barn doors and ones painted in musou black :)
