Hey all, complete brain fart at the beginning when I said Model Y, clearly it’s a 3. Didn’t have my morning coffee my apologies! -Tommy
😅
And here I thought you never made mistakes. 😀
You can precondition the Tesla by setting the map to navigate to the nearest Supercharger. It will heat it up so you get max performance 😎
Do you know the difference between being perfect and not being perfect? A perfect person covers up their mistakes before others see it. 😉 Edit before you post it and nobody is the wiser. And that is your lesson for the day. 😉
@@bytemark6508 Everyone makes mistakes. But if you take your time, proof read/review your work before you post, you can fix things before anyone notices. That is what separates professionals from the rest of the world. 😉
Owning a non-GT EV6 I can say that if you want the best launch from an EV6, the Regen level should be set to 0. They ran in GT mode with Regen level 3. The EV6 for whatever reason has to push through the regen during acceleration, so turning it off (level 0) would improve that launch.
Question about regen. Why would regen be activated during any kind of acceleration? That would be like engaging the brakes while driving. Don’t think that would be efficient in any kind of way.
@@JV-py3lgyes you’re quite right. In my experience it’s not “pushing through” the regen as that would make no sense. What in fact happens is that the throttle mapping changes so you get more bang for your buck as it were from the pedal through its entire depress, so the OP is right but for this reason.
12.1 seems slow for an ev6 gt. I have seen videos where it has hit 11.6
Old bad pavement makes a difference with traction control.
They didn't press the green button
American bias. Note they also only did one drag race rather than best of 3.
You can precondition the Tesla by setting the map to navigate to the nearest Supercharger. It will heat it up so you get max performance 😎
How long should you let it heat up for max performance?
@@Superman-xr1ohIt should take about 15 minutes to heat up using this method. For max performance, you want the battery just under 100°F. You can use the now accessible service menu to monitor battery temperature, or you can use a third party app
Same with Kia.
@@tony_bauer is there a way to monitor the battery temp in the Kia?
@@teslasnek Yes, and it has support for those Bluetooth OBD readers that give you every little statistic about your battery and its usage in real-time. I think the way the Ioniq 5N is doing it is a lot better though. The gauge cluster has it all there.
The EV6 is still set up wrong for its quickest acceleration. The Level 3 regen does affect throttle response. Also to get the quickest time in the EV6, the traction control should be turned off.
Tommy also started the 30 roll at 35 mph
This 👆 also if you hold the traction control button it'll turn off traction control completely if I remember correctly.
Doesn't really matter, it's still not quicker than the M3P
Model 3 Performance, all you have to do is floor it. ;)
I love TFL… I love TFL videos… and I watch pretty much ALL of them on ALL your channels… and I know you didn’t ask… but I’ll take a standard video over POV any day.
I've watched a lot of videos of the model 3's acceleration and this is the first where I've actually gotten a sense of how strong it really is. Sub-4 zero to 60 is really quick for a normal looking car!
It can actually get to 3.0 dead if you put better tires on it
I just bought the "slow" one that is RWD only. Once you are going 30 or so it is not that much slower than the AWD model. Driving it on twisty roads is very fun despite it not being the fastest thing ever.
@@Drylochjust bought a rwd model 3 also but trust me it’s slower. I test drove the performance a few weeks prior and it is violently quick.
I think right now with tax credits the rwd model3 is the best car to buy right now. I got $9500 back (ny state and fed) on a car Tesla sold for $38k. It almost feels like theft!
I prefer Edmund’s U-Drag, its a superior test in every way, incorporating TWO fast straightaways, heavy braking, heavy cornering…why would anyone still do a straightaway for a test? Also, GT is built for the track. It can do the nurburgring three times in a row back to back, no overheating issues because they gave it super beefy cooling, then go recharge battery 10-80% in 20 min and be back at it again. its just a better built track attack vehicle over model 3 performance.
Where do you see model 3 performance overheating 🤡. Kia won't do 3 Nuremberg laps because of it's trash range and powerful motors. Tesla charges just as fast
Heads up, When you first got into the Tesla you said it was a modle Y instead of a modle 3
the kia has the power button did you press it ?
so you drag race the ev6 with auto hold on and regine brake on level3 thats a big disadvantage for the ev6 I know i own one. I am going to the track soon I will show you how its done even on my draggy I am pulling a 3.3 to 60 and 11.5 in the quarter. Also on the 30 roll Tommy started at 35 not 30
I wondered about that. I have noticed that whenever I am cruising, if I drop the regen level, the car speeds up. In that case, it seems like the car would be the quickest with the regen set at zero.
@@michaelc2254 that’s my point also having auto hold on in a drag race is a no no it causes a delay in the acceleration. We know ev6 compete with the model y performance well to be fair the ev6 will walk it. Hell on the 30 roll it pass the model 3
Did u pressed the GT button??
That’s crazy how fast they are
Problem with EV6 is that Kia didn't put any "Launch Control" system. It probably has a linear acceleration instead of a full accel at start then slows a bit. Kia should add a feature or have a acceleration curve setting.
Problem with it, is that it is a korean car, thus junk

How are you slower in the 1/4 mile than me when I didn't pre-condition the battery and I was at 65% SOC and I was 11.8 on crappy roads?
Why you guys never drag race the EV6 GT with the Model Y, that's the EV6 compettitor, not the Model 3.
U mad bro?
What was the 0-60 time on both cars?
Price of Model 3 Performance has been reduced to $53K, and that is before the $7500 tax credit, right? So, down to about $46K now for a Model 3 Performance after the tax credit, right? Nice, hope to see Kia be competitive with price reductions over time, and hope they price the larger EV9 (especially GT) attractively, perhaps in line with the Cybertruck.
Model 3 performance is an absolute bargain right now there’s basically no reason to get a golf r/s3/ civic type r/ integra type s/ gr corolla
@@mike9588Hopefully just the beginning of better and better EV economics and economy of scale
Thing is Kia isn't mass producing EV6 (yet) in big volumes unlike Tesla who mainly makes EVs. Tesla has upperhand at making profit and has the flexibility to lower their price. I don't see Kia making any decent profit from any of their EVs until 4-5 years later when they have full on dedicated factory in Georgia.
@@mrpogi23 We'll see if Hyundai/Kia commits to volume production and achieves economy of scale, hopefully so, my neighbor has an Ionic 5 and likes it, so far, even here in rural northern Utah.
@@CrumResearch : >> We'll see if Hyundai/Kia commits to volume production
I personally liked the POV video. It's great for this type of content (drag races). It felt interesting, and I enjoyed the conversation between Tommy and Kase.
Also, I was very impressed by the EV 6.
Isn't the EV6 a Model Y competitor? If it runs even with the 3 it will gap a Y and the price will be closer as well.
It has the interior space & outer dimensions to the model 3.
1. If you are being watched from abroad, it would be good to put subtitles on all the conversations on the walkie-talkie, if there is something important, because the sound quality is bad and nothing can be understood.
2. I understand that this is just an entertainment video, but both cars are test cars, most likely not yours and insured. Therefore, if you are already comparing acceleration, then you could also try to test the resource. For example, repeating these parallel accelerations until the batteries are completely discharged. This would reveal the rate of discharge under such extreme loads, would reduce the response error of both drivers in the measurements, and in the worst case - would reveal any problems if there was any breakdown due to overheating of the elements or something else.
You should throw up the current prices of both with and without the tax credits and of course the ranges. 👍🏻
Why isn't it going against the Y performance suv vs suv ?
@0:32 Model Y Performance.......Not 3 (As it says in the title).
That's the slowest quarter mile I've ever seen on a model 3, they normally do 11.6! Low SOC? That Kia is quick though!
ev6 gt does 11.6 too. I have one so I know
Anyone else notice Tommy started his 30 mph rolling race at 35 mph?
they were both lined up at 35 tho
@@h20dancing18 it didn’t show that the guy in ev6 was at 35 so how you know he was at 35 mph ?
@@bigdi77 because they were parallel for almost 2 seconds
What was the SoC of each vehicle after you guys are done with these tests? Both started at nearly 75%. I guess the battery size of both vehicles are nearly comparable?
My friend got the new existing inventory driven performance for 52k from tesla...blue tnt take 7500 off.. then take 3000 more of from ca rebate... boom. Income can adjust results
Did he even activated the
" full power "mode in EV6 GT?
I like this style of 0 to 60 better than the previous one.
Yeah, for the second test, it would make more sense to get to 30mph, then the test starts after they cross a line. It makes sure the test is perfectly matched and no one is ahead of the other. Not that it matters. They're both fast cars. But the Model 3 Performance has much better range and is cheaper. It's actually $52K now ($3k price drop just today) and of course, if you qualify for the $7,500 tax rebate, you're talking a $44,500 car. It's hard to pick the Kia, that's $63K and that's before dealer price hikes.
That’s a really slow time for the Model 3 performance they usually run 11.5 to 11.7 and the dual motor runs 12.2-12.4
The Model 3 Performance is $54,990 on 4/21/23
That KIA is gorgeous!
before watching - so thanks to it's lower drag I'm betting the model 3 is quicker, but the kia stops better.
Let's see how wrong I am.
Honestly EV6 is a hatch sure and would be more comparable to the model Y but it's way more closer to the 3 primary due to it having way less storage space then the 3 which is sorta insane, 490 liters for the EV6 (may be wrong) while 580 for the model 3 and its smaller which is nuts
Fact. The range on the Tesla’s dominate the Kias
@cantbsdave space management, safety, performance, range, software, comfort, speakers, infrastructure, experience, and driving experience are all amazing on teslas, its competition only tend to have half of them and straight up none of them have good software, it's freaky stupid that these large companies can make a few good cars but super shit software
@@cantbsdave up
Teslam is dreamer.
Tesla doesn't even have fast charge and v2l. Also speed loss under 50% battery while kia maintains until 10%. Also Kia's comfort, speaker, experience, driving experience are way better than Tesla.
That is not true. Every car reviewer have said the opposite especially regarding driving dynamics, it's over the air updates, and superior software along with its super charger network. The competition has gotten better but still far behind.
You preconditioned the EV6 but didn’t precondition the Model 3. Why would you do that? Heat in the battery is way more important than State of Charge. The Model 3 Performance would easily run an 11.7 even at that State of Charge with a warmer battery. If you had optimized the battery temperatures in the Model 3 like you did in the EV6 it won’t fade anywhere near as much at higher speeds. Please test a Model 3 Performance with a hot battery and you will see the difference it makes. Just navigate to a Supercharger until the “preconditioning” word goes off the screen. Then it is ready to get max power.
Bang on, what I was thinking.
To be fair I own the ev6 and my draggy time is 3.3 to 60 and 11.5 in quarter of a mile
@bigdi77 M3P owner here. It's a nice car the EV6 GT, not much in it between the M3P performance wise, honestly gonna depend on heat, SoC and other variables in terms of a 1/4 mile drag race.
I still see people quote the M3P as 483bhp... honestly, it wouldn't perform as it does if nearly 1.9 tons unladen if it was. Warm battery and 90%+ we're talking 580bhp based on a video that tested the M3P with differing SoC/battery temps.
It's really hard to pin an actual BHP equivalent based on the peak kW power with these EVs as it differs wildly based on so many variables.
Because it's tfl and they are incompetent and lazy
@@larryspiller15 well seeing that we complaining about Tlf tommy started the 30 rollout at 35mph look at the video again
You guys think you could do an episode with these two vehicles tandem in drift? Perhaps try to see how their handling characteristics compare to each other at he limit?
Bet if you tagged @Formula Drift and the community that run those X-Cross EVs. You all would definitely get some wheels spinning 😄
Thanks for the episode.
And wait next year when they launch the model 3 plaid
The Model 3 Performance runs 11.5 seconds in the quarter. Something isn’t right…
My obd scanner says 425kw(570hp) available discharge on battery so idk where you guys or tesla is getting their 470hp figure from.
Not to mention it's been proven on a dyno the M3 puts out over 500 to the wheels
Can we see some braking test? EV-truck-midsize suv -small car
The results were easy to anticipate since the Tesla is much lighter so start faster but the EV6 is more powerful so once launched goes faster
Why not a MYP vs EV6 GT, a M# is sedan and EV6 says it's a SUV
Why did Tommy say it's a Model Y performance?
He a little confused, but he got the spirit
Because from the front all Teslas look the same?
Tesla Model 3 Performance has well over 500hp and price for 2023 is actually $50K add $2K more for red so its a no brainer compared to the Kia's laughable price tag
Everyone in the comments must be an EV professional. I think it was a cool test. I’m glad for the pov. These videos sometimes aren’t for the ev nerds. A lot of us still need convincing to make the switch to ev.
Model Y or Model 3?
No offense but the driver mod helps. Our KIA rep took his to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dragstrip and ran an 11.66 on his EV6 and he let off early.
He needs to hold the traction control button down to put it in the race mode on that ev6
I like how Tesla's are set. Brutal power at legal (ish) speeds and less at illegal speeds, helps me to have fun but stay out of jail, or at least keeping my drivers license.
Kia's SoC is 75% -> max power limited.
The model 3 price just dropped today by $3k, so it's actually $52K. Just an fyi.
The range on that Kia is only 225 compared to over 300 miles on the model 3
Tesla vs mustang ev?
News Flash!
0 to 60 in 3.1sec is faster than 3.5 sec. 😯
Ev6 GT has managed 2.99 seconds in drift mode and no regen.
Regular runs are getting 3.2 Tesla has roll out which means 3.3 you have to set the Kia up right. Too new yet. So many more videos will come in time. But it really is a model y comparison. If you don't believe on timings do research. Incredibly close on these two vehicles.
Korean made Hyundai and Kia are arguably the closest Tesla rivals on the market. Similar in price and efficiency. Their autopilot variant isn't too shabby either.
Just purchased a used 2018 Model 3 Performance from Tesla, with FSD, for 35.5. It is red and has only 28k miles. I couldn't believe how good the condition of the paint and interior were.. I have purchased many many cars in my 29 years of driving- both new and used- including 6 other Teslas, and this has to be the best deal to date. I really hit the used car jackpot.
How is that M3P so slow... I have a 2022 Non performance dual motor with the boost and I'm doing 11,691 @ 116,58 MPH, My worst time was 11,854 @ 115,38 MPH, the car had ~15K miles at that time. Other then the boost function, the car has no mods, original tires, original everything.
Probably because of the road they are driving on and elevation.
Ya I'm running 11.7 with boost
@@T3chAndThings Elevation should benefit both EVs times due to improved aero. They don't lose power with elevation like an ICE vehicle.
They started at about 75% state of charge ... so later runs are lower ... they need to go 90% for best results.
If model 3 had a HUD and more info in front of driving position. No idea what the different screens look like for a model 3 but just having a tiny speedo in top right seems ridiculous. Love that the Kia has a more normal setup with driver info directly ahead, and a HUD, and supplemental info on center.
Model 3 with a hud with all the info (speed, navigation etc) would be a game changer
The Kia doesn’t have any range. That a huge problem.
#1 rule of dragging your Tesla: charge the damn thing up! They simply have more power at about 85% and up. Not sure why every reviewer must do their testing with a low SOC.
It's kind of crazy to think the model 3 performance has been out for 5 years now, and other competitors are just starting to catch up.
That's a common misconception. Tesla continuously changing hardware and software of their cars. Tesla doesn't change much how the cars look.
Traditional automakers are other way around. They keep changing the appearance but rarely changing the hardware. They are getting better with software updates but nobody is pushing new updates and features the way Tesla does.
@@oz7564 Sure, theyve changed some software for efficiencies but the fact remains the performance is not all that different from what they first offered in terms of speed 5, nearly 6 years ago.
@@zonehawk True. They didn't change performance numbers. It's just too many auto magazines keep saying that Tesla is an old design which is far away from truth.
It's kind of crazy that Tesla's decades dominance in EVs has ended so quickly....
Other EV makers are well beyond Tesla. There weren't any reason for auto manufacturers to make a fast performance EV.
So I rewatched to confirm that the quarter mile start was completely equal, but no inclusive shot of both cars starting.... it looks like the Tesla started as 'Dad's' arms started to drop, whereas the Kia starts halfway down... that's more than 0.10 of a second later..... from it's actual start the the Kia makes up for the slower 'reaction time' by catching the Tesla.... good fun, but if I was referee I'd be tempted to throw a flag.... 🙈🙉🙊
Bad battery condition for the 3 or it was fixed. Look at the specs of both cars the model 3 does better all round and 2 seconds better 60-130 so something doesn’t add up here.
Better comparison would be with a Tesla model Y performance. The Kia ev6 is much bigger than the model 3.
FYI: It’s really frustrating when you repeat what we say in the video.
@@TFLEV You literally did the same race a couple of weeks ago.

Tesla mod 3p do not need a pre condicion and way cheaper....
i think finally korean made cars got past the japanese cars in this EV age.
Have to give it to tbe Tesla based on the price. Looks nicer to me as well as I prefer clean minimalism over the EV6'a dated ice car design.
Not only that I need to duck may head down under the roof in the Kia but not the M3.
That road surface is terrible to race on. Times would be better on different pavement. Im sure yall can find a better place to race.
The Tesla did not take off exactly the same time as the Kia. You need to run it again with a fair start.
I'd take the GT just because of the multiple screens. I'm not a fan of Tesla's "everything on one screen" philosophy.
THAT KIA IS A MONSTER 👻 👽 😳
Interesting how they engineer the 2 cars. Tesla is about low-end power, Kia is about the mid-range...

So, here's the deal with the GT EV6 - for the best launch, set the regen level to 0. Now, with Teslas, you can pre-condition them to get that max performance vibe. Gotta admit, the Model 3's acceleration is pretty darn quick for a regular-looking car! By the way, the EV6 lacks launch control, and running the batteries down to 30% can actually make both cars faster due to less weight. Personally, I prefer standard videos over POV, but that's just me!
30% makes the batteries lighter? LOL that's rich :D
these guys sound like the lego movie guys
So my model y dual motor with accelerator boost will beat both

Isn’t the Model 3 performance 20k cheaper than the EV6 GT with the tax credit? Amazing 🤩
EV6 GT - $63,455, M3P - $54,630. Enhanced Autopilot would add $6,000 to the M3P, and the Kia has some of those features. Not all of us qualify for the $7,500 tax credit, in which case they are not that far apart.
EV6 competes with Model Y though. Most people wanting an EV6 would cross shop it with the Model Y not really the 3.

If you are drag racing a Tesla Performance anything you should be putting the car into Track Mode. What does the Tesla do then compared to the EV6 GT?
Track Mode is the single worst thing you can do for straight line acceleration in a Model 3 Performance. It cools the battery and slows the car down massively above 40 mph like this video shows. They would have run an 11.7 at the most if they had preconditioned the Model 3 like they did with the EV6.
Perfer the minimalism of the Tesla.
come al solito vedo prove che non hanno senso . il confronto si doveva fare tra la model y performance . troppo facile confrontare una berlina con un suv . premetto che comunque le auto elettriche non mi piacciono .

you should use the track mode on the Tesla, so you get better results.
Track mode actually makes drag races slower, as it cools the battery.
Oddly enough, track mode is for the track ;)
@@foam27 it cooles the Battery better yes, but only if you select that Option. Other way its just normal cooling.
