His deadline was to be home for the Barkley Fall Classic. He literally finished the walk, went to the airport, flew home and took a shower, then headed over to Coalfield School for runner registration. He looked about as beaten down as you can get, but still had the energy to come and greet all of the registrants. And then of course was out at Frozen Head the next day punching bibs, asking if you wanted to take the shortcut back or finish the entire course. A lot of people say he's an old curmudgeon but nothing could be further from the truth.

You can hear the emotion in his voice, almost cracking as he recounts his story. It's obvious it's coming directly from his heart. Truly inspiring

When Laz talks about how hard something is, I believe him. Some of the ultra runners here on CZcams say similar things but I just don't believe them -- they're like it was great, it hurt, whatever. Laz speaks from the heart, it's truth and real. This is part of why he's so respected.
