Just finished after 8 hours straight work. Took me 3 hours to get the 14mm bolts to thread into the starter for some reason. Truck still doesn't run. Tried jumping it, and lights and everything popped up fine. Turned the key and no crank. Left it on the jumper for 15 minutes, no crank. Slow charging now but I'm about to peel the skin off of my face after this job 🙃 Just take it to a mechanic. Don't be like me.

What a heinous place to put a starter.

Is there a way to test the stater after installing and wiring, but before everything else is assembled?

I posted a comment earlier today about the location of the starter on my 2004 Tundra. Let me clarify that. I looked again and yes, I can see the starter from underneath the truck; However, it would be very difficult to impossible to remove it from underneath. I believe his method here is the only way to reach it. What a miserable nightmare this would be to change if you were on the road.

I am not sure what engine he is working on. I have a 2004 Tundra V6 2WD. The starter on my truck is underneath the truck more to the passenger side of the vehicle. It is clearly visible if you look underneath the vehicle.

😂 the engineers did it again 😂 and the 07 its a hard one to, at least on the 07 up you have where to hit it to get it to start to bring it home 😂

First off, thanks for not doing the FF zip through like so many other DIY vids do. Your editing was spot on and made for a nice mix of voice over instructions and hi def video and excellent lighting.. I, too, would have disconnected the battery first. I was also curious as to why you didn't replace the intake manifold gaskets, throttle body gasket, and while in there, replace the two knock sensors. I also wondered how in the heck leaves get into the intake area, much less the crud going down to the cylinder heads. Maybe I'll find out when I do my starter. A quick discussion on why I should buy an A1 starter as opposed to a factory Denso unit? Comparing warranties might have been helpful too.. IT was also unclear as to whether this was your own personal vehicle or a customers. A quick tutorial on extracting the snapped off screws would have been good too. Bottom line is that I learned a lot and thanks for the education on this process.

Always put a new gasket on if you can. Especially if the gasket shows any signs of failure. My issue with this video is that a bolt pattern was not used to install the intake. Which is very important. If you don't know. Then it generally goes in an x fashion starting from the middle and working it's way to the outside. Otherwise a good video. 🎉

I probably would have dropped a bolt down one of the intakes. Good video

A friend's mechanic assumed it's my Tundra issue, since I install a new costco battery, and won't start. Easiest way to verify a starter issue?

You needed some paper towels stuffed into the intake ports, when handling hardware over top of them.

could you vacuum out that gunk on the side of the intakes ? or would that risk knocking a bit of it loose into there?

I just gotta say that the video is actually superb but to get your friggin hand behind the damn starter, there is hardly any room to do so. Not to mention trying to get the socket wrench and 14 millimeter on the bottom bolt to get it off. Took me 2 and a half hours just to get that bolt out😡🤬. Going to be a hard time getting that one back in😡. Hardly any room plus can't see back behind the starter. IDK that guy got his hand behind there with no problem. On video, looks like all kinds of room to get your hand in there. So far 6 hrs and still have one more bolt to take off before getting starter out😡. Hardest part is getting starter out believe me.
