    DOM, thank you for posting this. My wife and I used it to tune up her 45 year old Kenwood Major. Your details and videos were great.

    We have same mixer, belonged to my partners late mum ,so we we like to keep it and use it, but its smoking ! Now i have confidance to have a look at it! If can get parts hopefully can restore it to its former glory. Guess we could replace it but it has sentimental value as she remembers her mum using it over 40 years ago! Thanks for posting this.

      I am glad you found this video of some use. Thank you for commenting. The smoking is probably a dying capacitor.

    Great detailed and thorough fix!
    Only thing is the lowest speed became too slow. I believe the 2 screws holding the board control the lowest speed if you tighten or untighten them. I am not sure. I recently replaced the x2 capacitors because they were smoking and bulging and I believe I adjusted the lowest speed using these 2 screws.
    Thanks for sharing

    I’ve not watched the whole video as I freaked out when it got to the part needing a soldering iron! But I was glad to see new feet were fitted. When age compresses the feet, it reduces air flow which is crucial for the life of the machine. Now to try and find out why mine is leaking grease…

    • @DaftOldMan
      @DaftOldMan  Před rokem

      I think they all leak grease as they get old because the fatty part of the grease separates from the runny part. (technical terms!!) The grease left inside is usually very thick. The soldering is easy. You can do it.

      @@DaftOldMan 😂😂😂 I do own a soldering iron - I’ve just never used it! I’m not sure starting on my precious Kenwood Chef is a good plan. But I may watch some videos. Thank you for the feedback and the encouragement.

    I still have my Kenwood Chef 901 here in Thailand that I bought in England in 1967 ish. The heat sensor tripped out a couple of years ago, due I think to overloading while making bread, or to the average temperature of 33c here maybe. I removed the sensor because I couldn't get a replacement.Is there a way to repair it. I'm still using the mixer, but I don't want it to seize up. I am no electrician but your video is very clear and precise. Thank you.

    Just got a a901 from a colleague. This video helped me to strip it back to clean some stubborn crumbs. It is filthy inside so im gonna deep clean it and re grease it when we get better weather. Would you suggest petroleum jelly on all moving parts?

    • @DaftOldMan
      @DaftOldMan  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Professionals use proper food safe grease but I think petroleum jelly is good enough as it is safe to eat if any gets in food. Car grease is not food safe.

    I bet the owner will like the lack of added smoke taste in the next cake.

      It seems to be working well so the owner should be pleased.

    How do you source the parts?
    Have a happy day 😊

      Hi John. I got the parts from ebay. I bought a speed controller repair kit but only used the two capacitors. I also bought the rubber feet on ebay.

    hello ' can you say what are the capacitors and triac values?
    thanks

    • @sebiwm
      @sebiwm Před 11 měsíci +1

      I know the answer comes over 1 year after the question, but:
      My mum owns a Kenwood Major KM230 and the circuit board looks pretty similar to the PCB of this model.
      As of the view at timestamp 4:45:
      The value of the big front capacitor: 150 nF
      The value of the big rear capacitor: 100 nF
      The printing on the triac says: PH 71719 m8745
      On a quick search I wasn't able to find this exact type of triac.
      There is an article on "Instructables" with the title …
      "Kenwood Chef A902 A904 AC Motor Speed Control Module"
      … which holds a lot of additional information about this type of Kenwood machines. At this site you can find a schematic of the PCB and more.

    Not exactly a refurbishment, haven’t touched the main gearbox or motor.

    • @DaftOldMan
      @DaftOldMan  Před rokem

      The motor and gearbox did not need attention and continue to work perfectly over one year later.
